I love watching gardening videos by Australians. While we are going into autumn, you get to do some early spring potato planting, so lovely! It balances out my need to experience different seasons (if only by proxy). My other favorite Australian gardening TH-camr is Mark from Self Sufficient Me 🥰
You're gonna have excellent potatoes ! There is a thing we used to do with family (NEVER accept to visit you family in spring, it's a trap, they're just gonna make you plant potatoes), where we would split the potatoes in halves or even thirds if they are big enough and stuff like three bits in a single hole, which would give like three times bigger roots (and three times more potatoes). Not sure this works with every variety, but you could experiment with a part of your potatoes. Hope yours turn out great !
Congrats on now reaching 1.42K subscribers Chilli. Good job planting. 👏 I'm a "Sweet Potatoe" fan. Can even eat the thick leafy tops in salads. 😊Have a very awesome week Chilli. Pete. NSW Au
@@heladonelaart8644 I have NO Idea as I live in Far N/E NSW but since its now Spring give em a GO.✔✔ Off the Net =Climate Zone, When and Where to Grow Climate zone: Sweet Potatoes can be grown in all areas around Australia. When to grow: Sweet Potatoes need a long warm growing season. In cool and cold climates, plant Sweet Potatoes in early spring, once the danger of frost has passed. In warm frost-free areas, subtropical and tropical areas, they can be planted at any time of the year. Where to grow: Grow Sweet Potatoes in a sunny spot that receives at least six hours of sunshine a day, in a well-drained garden bed or pot. Harvesting Growing time: Depending on the climate and variety, Sweet Potatoes potatoes will be ready to harvest anywhere from three to five months after planting.
@IntenseVisuals Yes it does looks super good! I'm about to find out how good this summer. Its Ferrosol soil, a really dark red/brown and rich from the volcanoes ages ago.
Hello Chilli, looks like you need a pneumatic drill to dig that garden or a J.C.B. as looks like it's not been dug this century, like planting in concrete. You should be able to push the spuds into the ground with ease not have to dig a whole for them. How you are going to sow seeds in that with out rotavating it first is anyone's guess. Best of luck on that one.
@GardenFreshHomestead No amendments, we just moved to the property, so our compost isn't ready yet. I will add some later as they grow. And I dug them about 10cm deep.
@kristinpagan2361 No clue 🤣... going to just let the leaves go yellow and die and pull them out. I chose too many varieties and dug them in no particular order.
I smile all through your vids. You are a precious young person 😊
Life is an experiment indeed ❤️
@vancamerawoman7399 That's very sweet of you! Thank you ❤️

@stayawakenhealthy2539 Thank you!! Sweet potatoes are great too! Just not sure if they will do well in the Tassie climate.🤷♀️
@@chillidonela Trial and error growing IS a GR8 way to "learn"!👌
Would sweet potatoes grow in Tasmania? Or too cold?

Those will do great! You are going to have to go back to the farmers market to SELL some of them 👍🏻
Your soil looks so rich and organic those potatoes are gonna turn out great! Can't wait to see what else you have planned!

How deep did you put those potatoes, I noticed you didn't add any amendment to the soil?
We grow 325 Kennebec and Pontiac Red potatoes for the season.

Are all you potatoes "main style"? As in will it be 90, 110, 120+ days before you harvest them?

Another good show & I like your gumboots, i reckon you could almost wear them night clubbin'.
