Actually Levy's choices gave white a few fits. Levy getting the initiative and keeping it as black was nice to see. And even though Hikaru would have played more accurately were he playing white in that rook and pawn game, that 'star' move by black was notable too. I usually watch Hikaru for his streaming and his own self recaps, but it was nice to watch this one.

Ive watched many of levy's tournaments and the h5 g5 idea is a shock. He usually plays defensive/passive. Nice to see him take those risks especially with a much higher rated opponent
Solid game by Levy. Seems like he's able to get out of his head a little more now, and you love to see it. He's such a strong player when he just goes for it
I've been watching a LOT of his games lately, and Levy is getting VERY good at end games. He has an excellent understanding of how to close-out games, and for many players, myself included, the end-game is often where I struggle the most.
I love how Hikaru uses the computer to check his work. He is the best commentator because nobody can translate computer chess better. I think at the highest level they have to compete with computers because that's the only tool we humans have to keep score.
So excited for Levy, and I love that Hikaru still supports him (despite them not collaborating much due to the huge ELO difference) edit: Hikaru is 2800, jfc, this fantastic Argentinian GM is literally nothing to him
it's kinda crazy how the elo difference between levy and his opponent is smaller than the elo difference between hikaru and sosa. just goes to show that even as a GM, there are HUGE differences in level.
Please bring back sub battles, that was peak chess entertainment imo. Still respect it if ya'll don't want to, or don't feel it's time to set aside the personal differences.

Damn, are the Elos right? Apparently the FIDE elo calculation implies it was only a 7.35% chance to win with black. (White win ≈65%, draw ≈27.65%). With Hikaru breaking 2800 and hitting #2 in classical it’s looking like a good summer for the chess content kings in OTB play.
Tomás is one of Faustino's 5 coaches hired by the Argentine Chess Federation (he works on calculation with him, whereas the other 4 work on opening with white, openings with black, endgames, and tacticts, if I remember rightly).
You know you're listening to a super GM when they say "if you were playing someone really strong it might not have worked out as well as it did..." and the game involves someone over 2500+ rating... This is why I come here Hikaru, because there are very few players who can casually talk like this and it's just perfectly accepted - even by the 2500+ player.
