And if you do really need to know the current location, you can use “Get Current Weather” and select Location in that variable as this updates in the background so it’s much quicker to retrieve the location this way.
The action button is also really helpful for my "Help Me" shortcut I created that I previously had only as an icon on my dock (My Help Me shortcut does things like unlock my front door and sends a text to a list of recipients that say I need help and includes my location etc).
Thank you so much for this video. It gave me the idea to make an automation at work, where if im on wifi I cant open any sports betting app (we like to talk about sports at work, but the wifi is blocking those apps) so now I´ve an automation that "when I open the app, it check my location and if at work, it will turn off wifi, and then turn on wifi when I close the app" Very good, thanks :)
This is just amazing! buuuut I have a question and would like some guidance. Is it possible to set up the shortcut for the action button on the Apple Watch, but when it doesn't detect any location from de shortcut, can it just work with its regular function and open "workouts" because there seems to be no way of opening the workouts app, only a specific workout
Great video! Some awesome starter ideas for the endless possibilities with these action buttons. I don’t think a lot of people understand the power of that button. Especially the one on their wrist. For the people that think I’m crazy for getting an Ultra, the action button is always my first line of defense. Lol
If you have a Tesla you can map the action button to the open frunk/trunk shortcut that the Tesla app supports. Really handy if you want to load groceries etc.
Great video! You could expand on your watch action button when you're driving by adding a condition of GPS geolocation, so only when you're near your home that button will open/close the garage door. Then, while driving, you can have it do something else that may be useful when not near your home. Shortcuts are so powerful, would be great to have some more videos highlighting creative ideas.
Great video. 🙌 Another way to launch a shortcuts menu if you don’t have the Action Button is to use a Shortcuts widget on the Lock Screen. Also, with 17.2, they’ve got rid of the time out limit so your screen doesn’t go to sleep while you’re looking at the menu.
this is awesome. Just got the 15 pro as well and loved the idea of the action button but really like having the quick silence option. had no idea it could be programed to do multiple actions suing shortcuts! (seems kind of obvious now lol) side note: does your Ram not have HomeLink on the visor to program your garage door?
Hey, I tried to do the shortcut that turns home lights on and off. I did it exactly es you explained but the lights only turn off but not back on. I duplicated the function like you said and set the lights to turn on but they still don’t after pressing the action button for a second time
@Shane - I’m having an issue with my action button shortcut following the framework you laid out. I said I get current focus mode to sleep and when it’s in sleep, focus mode and I press the action button. It will turn on the flash light on my Apple Watch Ultra and otherwise I have it set to a location for a street address when I’m at work and will give me a menu of a couple of options to choose from such as going on a walk outside or messaging someone howeverwhen I set both of those up it only defaults to the option menu even if I put the sleep focus mode on it will no longer turn on the flashlight. Any suggestions?
I tried to make a shortcut list of car commands. I want to add a location condition for the trunk to open only if I’m not at home. I don’t want it to open accidentally while parked in the garage and cause damage. It’s not working for me though. How to do that properly?
Thanks for watching. I assume you are referring to personal shortcuts, not home shortcuts/automations. It is possible using Flic buttons. It's a little complicated to setup, but possible. Here's how: th-cam.com/video/I8SgVyn1i08/w-d-xo.html
I'm surprised that there is no way to secure the action button. Since it can be executed while it's locked, anyone can fire off your shortcuts. Potentially if you open your garage via a call to a dummy switch, it will not check any security, and anyone can open the garage, if they steal your phone.
I personally think we’re wasting the physical button by adding a menu to Action Button Shortcuts as you can just put a widget on the Lock Screen for that stuff.., But great video as always, having this button on my phone has been my favourite new feature for ages 😊
Thanks for watching. I like having the menu sometimes. But that's what's so great about using conditions, which I tried to emphasize in the video. Making a single button do different things based on location, time, focus modes, etc. is so powerful and allows you to get so much more use out of it.
Pro tip: to know where you are at, test against the WiFi SSID name instead of street name, it is way faster

thanks for sharring! that is pretty cool!
I have the standard iPhone 15. I love the back tap and find this to be the best alternative to the action button.
I am glad I cam across your channel. I am getting so many good ideas for my phone/smart home. Thank you!
Great ideas Shane. Some real power-shortcutting. Shows what you CAN do in Home + Shortcuts if you’re willing. I learned a bunch of new tricks.
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful. 😃

Thanks George! Yea I'm loving the Action Button on the Ultra. SO convenient!

Very cool. Thank you Shane. Your shortcut videos always make me think.
Glad you like them. Thanks for watching!
Great video ! Can you give the link towards the video regarding the building of a home statut shortcut ?
Thanks !
Thanks for watching! Here it is (also linked in video description): th-cam.com/video/-45QdaESZh8/w-d-xo.html
Do you have a link to the shortcut you did in this video?

Never knew this was all possible. Thank you for the awesome video. My favorite TH-cam channel 💪
Wow, thanks!

How did you create that intercom message? I have two boys that I need that wake up alert for lol
What’s the phone case you’re using? I like the orange accent on the action button
Thank you. Links to everything are in the video description.
The first action button press lined up with an ad. What timing 😂
Very useful shortcuts
Could you share shortcuts links?
Hey Shane, does your iPhone have to be unlocked to trigger the action button or can I also press it while it’s in my pocket?
Top vid this week. About to pull trigger on 15 pro. I may have missed it but I assume the Action Button doesn't require iPhone to be unlocked first?
Thanks for the question. The iPhone does not need to be unlocked to use the action button.
How would you compare Orbi with Eero?

anyone know how to get Apple Watch action button to open app on your iPhone?
Great video as always Shane! But anyone of you knows if is there any button (like Aqara or Flic ones) that can run shortcuts?
Yessssir Shane made a video, TLDR the Flic button can! th-cam.com/video/I8SgVyn1i08/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xTf-mg7ij9LOnmF-

Oddly the “open folder” shortcut doesn’t display as shown on this video. It instead launches the Shortcuts app / shows the folder. Any ideas?

Hey I like your content but please try to get the videos more simple rather than complex
Thanks for the feedback.
