Went from an R7 360 to this card. I'm extremely happy with it and plan to sit on this card for a few years before replacing it. Very happy with this little beast.
Sapphire makes really nice coolers - all of mine have always been almost silent unless you have your ear right against the case (and even then it's very quiet).
I have a 480nitro and it makes exactly the same noise, because of the second fan... great. Tomorrow returning it :( I wasnt sure if it was an issue or just my previous DCU2 asus card had better accoustics. But Thank you, now I know its faulty.
You can already get this card for only $160 in the US but here in the PH it's still priced at $210 or PHP 10500.00 :( the price never changed here since its launch even the 500 series rebrands will be out in just 3 weeks...

+Eirel Thomas let me explain you the silicon lottery. You can buy the exact same model of graphic card 5 times, from those 5, some will be able to hit higher stable clocks just by luck. This means that your max possible setting is special, and it is hard to find other card with the exact same limitation.

Using this card right now. I can say that it is a beast! Witcher 3 (1920x1080p, Ultra[shadows-high], ssao, low sharpness). getting 45-60 fps with 74c @ 50% fan
Well its doubled the 3dmark score of my old 660ti. Tomb raider (2013) Benchmark - 2560x1080@ultimate - 73 fps avg. Card is pretty quiet, fans have smooth speed change. Stock bios is tightly tuned, gpu graph in wattman is almost a straight line most of the time. I think its a good card, but it depends on what your upgrading from...
Sadly, my Fury Nitro, on the first day I too had a fan bearing issue, one of the three fans made a horrible scratching noise, I instantly went for a 1 to 1 exchange, thank god the 2nd one didn't have such issue. I don't think it's a shipping issue, I'm not sure is it Sapphire fault or not either because I'm not sure do Sapphire themselves who manufacture the fan or they asked people to do. Like how PSU normally it's made by another manufacturer. But then again, I think it's not a design flaw or something like that maybe an assembling issue, I hope Sapphire get their act together with their fans, overall their cards had been good so far. Didn't have any issues at all with my last 290X Vapor-X for over 1 Year ++ close to 2 Years now. I did had an issue with their 280X ToXiC, again with the fan...but that could be my fault, I think I MAY had accidentally damage it, but when it reaches around 55% fan speed it will start making noise anything more or lower it doesn't....really weird...but it only started to happen after that time I changed a new PSU which I had to remove everything from my case etc to route the wires. Could be my fault there.

i think 470 nitro+ much runs cooler or quiter by doing more undervolting and 470 mostly can do undervolte more than 480 and it runs cooler with lower fanspeed and keep running at boostclock
I feel like the RX 470 should've been the RX 480 since the price and performance are almost identical while consuming ~30w less power... But hence, I'll be watching Newegg for the RX 470's to be in stock again so I can make a review on it
I got a 470 nitro today here in the uk for 188£ from overclockers with free next day delivery, all other sites were 215£ and a few with delivery on top, so if 1 company can put it out for 188£ they pretty much all can and should.
How did you hit 1420? That seems really high considering what we've seen out of 480s so far. On seeing your review and finding out OCUK wont be getting another shipment til next week,I've just decided to order this card as well. Saved myself 30 AUD and a long wait. Hopefully it's as good a clocker as yours.
I've actually managed to get even higher than that, around 1480 MHz, but it wasn't stable through all games, just few of them. I don't really know, I think it just overclock better than the RX 480, it's a different chip, maybe less shades count affects the overall heat density and it's needs less current / voltage to be stable at higher clocks.
Apparently I'm in quite the pickle... My monitor only supports 144hz DVI-D, HDMI is the alternative port but maxed at 60hz... Now, these new GPUs may have DVI-D on the aftermarket variants, but they DO NOT have over 60hz supported for them! This means a older gaming monitor is OBSOLETE with the new GPU, since both the DVI and HDMI ports on the GPU only hits 60hz, while the DisplayPort hits 120hz... This is probably to cut down on costs, it doesn't make sense for them to have 'alternative' ports to be capped at 60hz... I'm using a R7 370 Strix 2GB edition and my GPU can go 144hz on my DVI-D output, but I want a new GPU that outperforms this, but that's sorta moot when I can't go over 60fps on all of the GPUs (they really want you to switch to display port that badly).

I opted for the nitro 470 8gb model, firstly because of the unavailability of the nitro 480 and I don't want to touch any of the reference cards, and secondary I don't know if it matters but the one I opted for it has faster memory from the 4Gb model. It would be nice to have a video of how to overclock the 470 with step by step instructions for dummies :)

I've found some videos for oc, but as I said i'm not much into overclocking and I'm afraid to not screw things up :) Especially i'm not sure if I have to lower the power limit a bit once the OC is done..
I've learned a bit by overclocking in the last few weeks, but I have a concern and I would like to ask you because I can't find a definitive answer anywhere. I know that everyone is responsible for his own actions :) So here it goes, as I can see you've put a lot of voltage to the overclock and I know that it may/will shorten the lifespan of the GPU but I did a stupid mistake, I accidentally left the voltage slider to +139, I don't know how I've missed that, but it was a stupid mistake to make because I also used wattman and long story short, I've noticed the temps were higher than usual (79-80) on long sessions with custom fan curve and than I discovered it, my main concern is did I f* things up bu leaving it like that for a week or it's no harm done. My stock voltage on wattman is 1168mV + 138mV that's 1306mV ..... The temps were in check though. Anyway please can someone tell me if I need to return the card and get a new one or it's fine like this.... Next time I promise I'll not use 2 different softwares for oc :)
yeah that makes me mad, they say " its too close to the 199 4gb 480". well that 480 is about as rare and hard to find as the lochness monster. and ive only seen one aftermarket 4gb 480 and that was 230 dollars and sold out , every other aftermarket 480 is 8 gb and the same price as a gtx 1060 with an AIB cooler. the rx 470 4gb basically is taking the spot of a 4gb 480 at this point. your options are rx 470 4gb or a rx 480 8gb/GTX 1060
What is your opinion on the Sapphire 8GB version having higher memory speeds than the other RX470s? That is the card I am excited about, I have bought one, swapped my preorder from the same version of the 480, saved 31 pounds and the card is actually in stock. Imo it will be virtually identical to the RX480.
In my experience memory speed doesn't affect that much when it comes to performance. Yes, there's a difference, but not something I would be stressed about that much.
Nice review but my guess is with the pricing on RX 480 4 GB model & the RX 470 people are gong to be really confused. May be for AMD's sake they should have only released the RX 480 8GB model. Hope they don't release a RX 470 8GB to make things even worse...!!
Actually, I indeed have seen some RX 470 8 GB models in online stores in my country... Maybe that's why the prices for the RX 480 went up one day ago. Before, the RX 470 8 GB was the same price as the 480 8 GB. Strange.
RX 480 went through 2 price drop in India. When it was launched it was priced at USD 400 (RS 27,200) fo 8 GB. Now it is priced at 338 USD for 8 GB and 308 USD for 4 GB, all these cards are reference model while GTX 1060 AIB is available for same price as 8 GB reference RX 480. It looks like AMD's vision of providing affordable GPUs are only limited to USA

And I think it's gonna be an absolute beast. They cost $250 here in my country. As for the 1060 you mentioned cost $220 for the 3GB Zotac version, and $280 for the 6GB Zotac version. For the 970, I'm actually kinda worried about that 3.5GB VRAM that everyone mentioned. But eh, I'll pick a brand new 470 than a 1060 3GB or a 970.

In my opinion, if you're not increasing your performance by at least 30% by buying a new GPU or at least breaking even price wise and maybe bumping it up in that case for 10-20%, there's no need for upgrading.

You can see my overclocking settings at 05:00 mark! Yes, it's safe, and if it's not stable for you, just lower down GPU and/or memory speed until it's stable.
I can not understand how you can present this sapphire cooler as really quiet. Mine RX 470 is reaching almost 2000 rpm (74 °C) while in full load which is pretty loud and that's not cause of bad airflow (front and bottom intake, 2 outtakes) Compared to idle (0 rpm), temperature is around 48 °C (ambient 27 °C).

I don't think the 480 is better value at all. Just get this card and then 6 months later when they're a bit cheaper get another one and do crossfire, then when 4k tv's are a bit cheaper your Pc will run 4k games easy.

Hi! I have this card but it's nothing like the card in your video. On stock it runs 75°@1700rpm, throttles down to 300MHz in Furmark right from the start, and for OCing, well, for 1300MHz I need 1100mV already. That ain't normal?
Difference between RX 470 and RX 480 (4 GB variant) is ~USD 58(RX 470 being the cheaper one) here in India should i go for RX 470 in this case? I will be gaming on 1080p 60Hz monitor and I'm not planning to go any further as far as resolution is concerned for another couple of years.
RX 480 is USD 309 for 4 GB while RX 470 is USD 250 in my country I don't think i should pay $59 for few more fps(4-6). i can get few games for $60 here, i mean games are really cheap here like for $7 i can get Witcher 3 from steam during sales and Doom is $22 right now.

I guess the i5 750 would bottleneck the RX 470 a little bit. If you have some money, grab a i3 6100, a cheap LGA 1151 Motherboard, some DDR 4 or DDR 3, a cheap PSU and the RX 470, that would work for a while, for sure on 1080p Hope I could help a bit. :)

Of course it's stable, I couldn't get through all of those benchmarks if it wasn't, nor would I talk about achieved overclocking speeds if it wasn't. Temp after 30 min full load is the same as after 10 min, there's a threshold which basically doesn't change, while the fan speed varies.

Btw, is there a 8GB variant of Rx 470 available for sale?? Also, I saw in sapphire website that the Rx 470 4GB has base CORE clock of 1143Mhz and the 8GB has 1121Mhz (This I did not see wrong). Though both of them has same boost speed. Can you tell me why such difference? Also, does this mean that in lower resolutions, the 4GB is faster?
Go to the bios section of techpowerup. You can get pretty much every bios there is on that site. You may be out of luck if u have a china-specific card tho

Great channel and videos you have going on! Good Job. +1 sub. I opted for the nitro 470 8gb model, firstly because of the unavailability of the nitro 480 and I don't want to touch any of the reference cards, and secondary I don't know if it matters but the one I opted for it has faster memory from the 4Gb model. It would be nice to have a video of how to overclock the 470 with step by step instructions for dummies :)

I've found some videos for oc, but as I said i'm not much into overclocking and I'm afraid to not screw things up :) Especially i'm not sure if I have to lower the power limit a bit once the OC is done..
I've learned a bit by overclocking in the last few weeks, but I have a concern and I would like to ask you because I can't find a definitive answer anywhere. I know that everyone is responsible for his own actions :) So here it goes, as I can see you've put a lot of voltage to the overclock and I know that it may/will shorten the lifespan of the GPU but I did a stupid mistake, I accidentally left the voltage slider to +139, I don't know how I've missed that, but it was a stupid mistake to make because I also used wattman and long story short, I've noticed the temps were higher than usual (79-80) on long sessions with custom fan curve and than I discovered it, my main concern is did I f* things up bu leaving it like that for a week or it's no harm done. My stock voltage on wattman is 1168mV + 138mV that's 1306mV ..... The temps were in check though. Anyway please can someone tell me if I need to return the card and get a new one or it's fine like this.... Next time I promise I'll not use 2 different softwares for oc :)
why are people saying the 480 is a better value, thats not what im taking away from the reviews
yeah that makes me mad, they say " its too close to the 199 4gb 480". well that 480 is about as rare and hard to find as the lochness monster. and ive only seen one aftermarket 4gb 480 and that was 230 dollars and sold out , every other aftermarket 480 is 8 gb and the same price as a gtx 1060 with an AIB cooler. the rx 470 4gb basically is taking the spot of a 4gb 480 at this point. your options are rx 470 4gb or a rx 480 8gb/GTX 1060

What is your opinion on the Sapphire 8GB version having higher memory speeds than the other RX470s? That is the card I am excited about, I have bought one, swapped my preorder from the same version of the 480, saved 31 pounds and the card is actually in stock. Imo it will be virtually identical to the RX480.

In my experience memory speed doesn't affect that much when it comes to performance. Yes, there's a difference, but not something I would be stressed about that much.

Nice review but my guess is with the pricing on RX 480 4 GB model & the RX 470 people are gong to be really confused. May be for AMD's sake they should have only released the RX 480 8GB model. Hope they don't release a RX 470 8GB to make things even worse...!!
Actually, I indeed have seen some RX 470 8 GB models in online stores in my country... Maybe that's why the prices for the RX 480 went up one day ago. Before, the RX 470 8 GB was the same price as the 480 8 GB. Strange.
RX 480 went through 2 price drop in India. When it was launched it was priced at USD 400 (RS 27,200) fo 8 GB. Now it is priced at 338 USD for 8 GB and 308 USD for 4 GB, all these cards are reference model while GTX 1060 AIB is available for same price as 8 GB reference RX 480. It looks like AMD's vision of providing affordable GPUs are only limited to USA

That's one reason why I wouldn't recommend Asus. EVGA though do have their sc model available for $10 more on newegg (with the offer from visa checkout).
And the 470 8 gb will perform better in the future becuase its pointed more towards dx12 and thats what games are transitioning to

Because the specs are almost identical to a 480 (Not to mention the Overclock setting that +TekTick used) I wanted to pair this with a secondhand i7 3770 that i bought yesterday. And I think it's gonna be an absolute beast.
They cost $250 here in my country. As for the 1060 you mentioned cost $220 for the 3GB Zotac version, and $280 for the 6GB Zotac version. For the 970, I'm actually kinda worried about that 3.5GB VRAM that everyone mentioned. But eh, I'll pick a brand new 470 than a 1060 3GB or a 970.

In my opinion, if you're not increasing your performance by at least 30% by buying a new GPU or at least breaking even price wise and maybe bumping it up in that case for 10-20%, there's no need for upgrading.

You can see my overclocking settings at 05:00 mark! Yes, it's safe, and if it's not stable for you, just lower down GPU and/or memory speed until it's stable.
I can not understand how you can present this sapphire cooler as really quiet. Mine RX 470 is reaching almost 2000 rpm (74 °C) while in full load which is pretty loud and that's not cause of bad airflow (front and bottom intake, 2 outtakes) Compared to idle (0 rpm), temperature is around 48 °C (ambient 27 °C).
Because mine didn't run at 2000 RPM's in games, but rather at 1200-1300 RPM's, and that's a noticeable difference!

I don't think the 480 is better value at all. Just get this card and then 6 months later when they're a bit cheaper get another one and do crossfire, then when 4k tv's are a bit cheaper your Pc will run 4k games easy.

I beleivethat the stock voltage for the reference RX 470 is around 1000-1050mV, and for the RX 470 Nitro 1100-1150mV, so yes, that's a lot :D

I guess the i5 750 would bottleneck the RX 470 a little bit. If you have some money, grab a i3 6100, a cheap LGA 1151 Motherboard, some DDR 4 or DDR 3, a cheap PSU and the RX 470, that would work for a while, for sure on 1080p

are this overclock stable ? and how high temp after 30 full load ?
Of course it's stable, I couldn't get through all of those benchmarks if it wasn't, nor would I talk about achieved overclocking speeds if it wasn't. Temp after 30 min full load is the same as after 10 min, there's a threshold which basically doesn't change, while the fan speed varies.
