- A custom Road King Special build by Laidlaw's Harley-Davidson. Work performed by Master Tech John Terradot. The FXRT style fairing (Immzelite) is a throw-back style that has made a huge reemergence in popularity in recent years. The fairing combined with Immzelite "nudie" bars caps off the style that resonates with a lot of the club style riders today. This is a bike Laidlaw's built to be sold off the showroom as a good start to hopefully an amazing fully-customized Road King Special.

I think it's time for Harley to open their eyes and start giving us bikes that we actually want. Apart from the Low Rider S there hasn't been any modern club stlye factory bike. A modern version of the FXRT would be an awesome addition to the line-up and with the new heritage series they have going on it'd be the perfect chance to pull that out! Amazing build as always Matt!
Harley is very quickly failing. They are losing their demographic. I’ve always owned At least one Harley, currently a dyna. That said. It’s pathetic how little the bikes truly offer in comparison to competition, and for 2-3x the price.
Sadly, we'll never get another FXRT from Harley because well... They basically already make one. The Road Glide. It comes with a frame mounted fairing like the FXRT (Though styled differently), hard saddlebags like the FXRT (Though styled differently), there's a model with a tour pack like the FXRD, and if you look at the bare FXR frame and touring frame you'll definitely see the FXR in it. The 80s touring frame all the way into the early twin cam era the frames are very very similar.

H-D should come up with a similar retro model in their next line up. There’s an obvious demand for such a bike.

Been trying to decide if I want a road king or a road glide and this video just sealed the deal. Definitely this type of build on a road king!! Badass build Matt!

Yeah, they also put side shocks on a softail leaving the rear only held by the strut bolts. 😂
Love that road king kreusi orignals did too. The shocks on the softail was something different. Hes def doing his own thing and loving it. Including myself

@@MattLaidlaw I bought my 1st Harley in 08, a new Sportster. I'm on my 3rd, a Fat Bob, still fogging & they've all done it at any speed. It's not GETTING bad, it's been this way for over a decade! Honestly, I've thought about contacting DOT because not being able to see your speedo does create a dangerous situation. Should have been recalled & fixed a long time ago. I'm going to guess the speedos are made in china or thailand. My cousin was just laughing at my fogged up speedo today & said "HD, 3rd world quality at 1st world prices". It's absolutely infuriating.
@@MattLaidlaw The Motor Company isn’t going to fix the speedo and neither is my dealer in spite of warranty. Condensation in the speedo is caused by a temperature difference created by engine heat. Right, the fogging only happens with the engine running? I corrected my speedo by cutting a small hole in the back and stuffing the inside with desiccant. Then, a rubber plug available at electronics supply store. Others to fix the problem with the heat shield made of scrap fiberglass cloth between the fuel tank and frame.
PS Isn’t there a statute of limitations on the number of times "sick" can be used in the comment section?
Little fog does not bother me. Im never looking at the speedo anyway.

Of the builds you have done, this is one of my favorites. The blacked out look of the Road King Special plus the fairing and fork treatment lend a mean look to the bike. The faring with the electronics would be even better!

This bike looks sick !! I love these Laidlaw builds. The bike looks and fits the music perfectly. It’s a badass bike with a mean look. All black never gets old. And a fairing that has a presence just gives the bike look like it’s sticking out it’s chest. It’s saying “ I’m here “

The road king with this fairing is so much more attractive to me than either a street glide or road glide. Beautiful. Also, making me think about another bike. Damnit.

My wife just bought me my first Harley Davidson I have ever had for Father’s Day, a CVO Road Glide Black Hole, WOW!
Just came across this video...not that im in the market for a new bike, nor would I ever trade in my Dyna to get a new bike...but ive falling in love with the Road King Special. Down the line when the time comes to get a 2nd bike...damn never thought about an fxrt fairing. Seen them w/ Memphis shades fairings but not an fxrt fairing. U just showed me my dream bike. I could care less about electronics that come with road glides or street glides. But that set up u guys did with the bars & fxrt fairing...damn...🤘. I now cant see the road king any other way. Thats the set up I would want. I wouldnt settle for anything else. Nice job.

Portable mounted head unit!! Come on techi desingers!! Mount them on the bars. Done.. Would be really sweet if this faring and ST faring went full avaliable for cruisers. Let supplier's make them.
before we get started (slides leather gloves on) I just want you to know I've done this many times (gently touches the seat, tank, and fairing) but this is special (throws leg over and sits down and straightens up the handle bars) I've never been with someone like you (turns switch on)...

Nicely done. Probably my favorite bike so far.
That would be perfect for me. I've never liked a radio on a bike but I do want some wind protection. I think it looks great. Sounds like it was supposed to be a near direct bolt-on but you had to make modifications anyway. Great job.

That Imzz stuff looked interesting so I went to their site and ordered me a custom FXR seat! I’m 56 and on the east coast but the club style is appealing and you don’t see it often here….

Love this build. My only criticism would be those rubber fork boots. IMO, it's too "dirt bike" for my taste.

The Café Bagger! I dig it a lot. A bad ass touch would be to bolt up a nice lean and clean 2-1 exhaust system on it - that is - if it didn’t have those RKS wrapped bags on it.

Nice! The only issue I see with this project is that the fairing is narrower than the one on the Street Glide or the Road Glide, which makes this ride good for lane splitting, but the bags are still as wide as on all the other touring bikes, so one could miss calculate and have a problem with those. It looks amazing, though! ⚡️

I want one! With some lowers and full sound system 131 maybe a old school cops throw back just with the bags and light pods the hardest part would be picking the old school lowers or the new style 🤔
Definitely throw a infotainment touch screen on with 14” MX T bars with the gauges relocated on the top of the bars shorty levers thunder header or fab 28 mid controls but with the bigger MX pads with all the see through goodies
