Benefits of VVT Systems

Year after year, automakers need to find new ways to meet ever-tightening emission and fuel-economy standards. They’re faced with the challenge of making vehicles that are more fuel-efficient, produce fewer harmful emissions and are fun to drive. In response to this challenge, advanced systems have emerged to meet those needs. Variable-valve timing, also known as VVT, is a great example.

You left out the biggest benefit, higher rates of failure. If its electronic, 15yrs tops before it fails. More reasons to push you to buy a new car because repair cost quickly exceeds the value of the vehicle. Meanwhile my old 1968 Dodge 383 that runs off $20 coil and $25 dollar ignition box and a timing chain, still going strong with an unknown amount of miles on OE internals. Know what you wont see running on OE internals and externals(minus alternators, they just die after a while for all makes) at 50yrs old? Anything with sensors, VVT, or cylinder deactivation. Im still running the OE starter that can actually be rebuilt.

@@LOMBAX0RATCHET Blah blah all dodge hemi's with lifter failures, like 10yrs worth of Silverado Vortechs and their lifter failures, rather sure Toyota also had issues related to variable valve timing. Lifter roller fails, wipes the cam lobe out, you no longer have functioning valves. And you get the bonus of sending metal thru your entire oiling system.
