Here in 'Merica a regular Arby's roast beef sandwich is usually served with packets of Arby's Sauce (a tangy BBQ) and/or Horsey Sauce (a mild horseradish based sauce) which one or both is either applied to the sandwich or dipped in. And if you really want some meat in your mouth (who doesn't?) the giant sized Arby's roast beef is massive and kills the bun to meat ratio perfectly.

A doner kebab (Turkish), gyro (Greek) and shawarma (Arabic) are basically all the same thing - seasoned meat cut from a slowly rotating vertical rotisserie. The bread is typically pita. The technique was also brought to Mexico, where this type of meat forms the basis of tacos al pastor.

I have noticed that most Europeans when they come to the states and buy fast food, seldom use sauces and condiments. 2/3rds of the flavor profile is what sauce or condiment you put on your sandwich ( usually sliced meats ) or burgers (usually ground maybe beef maybe pink slime or some combination of the above) Also the Jalapeño Poppers with Bronco Berry Sauce is the bomb.

Arby’s was the first fast food that had sliced roast beef as their main meat rather than hamburger. They used to have a window where you could see them slicing the meat. I think the meat taste really good, but it’s even better with the horsey sauce since I really like horseradish with roast beef. The other good sandwich is the beef and cheddar. Their Jamoca shake is the bomb, however, it’s not as good as it used to be back when I was a kid. Arby’s is my favorite fast food. BTW, a burger is only a burger if it is ground meat. Everything else is a sandwich.

It's not mayo on the Gyro, but Tzatziki sauce made from yogurt, shredded cucumber, etc. and usually feta cheese. The thing about Arby's is their sauces: Horsey sauce and Arby's sauce are the most popular. It's always fun to watch you eat, enjoyed the background music too. I like the new tweeks to the "production" even though I'm sure ED does not enjoy all the adds.

The best thing they serve is the "Horsey Sauce". Back in the 70s & 80s they used to have the best milkshake selection in the business. Unfortunately they got rid of most of them. At one point they had salads, but the people that only eat meat and French fries complained that selling salads was a direct insult to their manhood and they stopped. For the roast beef sandwich, you have to use either the Arbys sauce or the horsey sauce, (depending on your preference) to take it to the next level. I think the beef n cheddar is better because it comes on a onion bun and has meted cheese sauce and some other kind of sauce. (the name escapes me) The gyro doesn’t have Mayo, it has tzatziki sauce, a creamy, lemony cucumber sauce. Makes it “more gooder.” ;)

    Salutations Diane
The roast beef is cut like a Deli meat (sliced ham, sliced turkey, etc.), It is always better with cheese and Arby sauce,
The fries / chips should be eaten / dipped into bbg sauce, mayo, or ketchup with a little salt and pepper.
The nuggets also come with different dipping sauces for a more rich taste flavor.
yes organic apple juice has a weird, less sweet flavor to it.
The 'bread' in a Gyro is called a pita bread. Yes, it is similar to a Donner kebab. It is of Greek cuisine. There are several different styles from pork. beef, chicken, lamb, and other meats.
It's been over a year since I had Arby's. There is not one close to me. Closest one, from my rental apartment, I can remember is over 7 km away.
The ones i usually choose from their menu are: Double Stacked Reuben, Smokehouse Brisket, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, Roast Turkey and Bacon Sandwich, and of course, the Curly Fries.

Diane, whoever told you that the Big Beef was the go to sandwich definitely steered you in the wrong direction. I personally don't know even one person who would choose the Big Beef over the Beef n' Cheddar sandwich. The Beef n' Cheddar has both Cheddar Cheese sauce and Ruby Ranch dressing (aka Catalina dressing) which is an almost sweet yet peppery touch they add to the sandwich. There's only a teaspoon or two of Ruby Ranch but it adds so much taste to the sandwich. It almost tastes like a peppered apple jam (not exactly but close enough).
Oh, and in answer to your burger question. Here in the U.S. to be a burger it has to be packed ground unbreaded meat to be a burger, otherwise it's classified as a sandwich no matter what type of bread or roll is used. What you guys call a chicken burger we call a chicken sandwich due to it being neither packed ground meat or unbreaded (in most cases). Our chicken burgers are ground and fried as a patty just like a hamburger or cheeseburger. There is one exception to the rule though. Meatloaf served in a roll is considered a Meatloaf sandwich not a Meatloaf burger.

Don't dismiss the deserts. The caramel chocolate chip cookies when warm and gooey are the best cookies I have ever had. I would stop by there just to buy a cookie if I was nearby. My favorite is their rueben, but it would be a cliche if an Irish girl ate a sandwich made from corn beef and cabbage (sourkraut).

For future reference, "gyro" is pronounced (yEE' row). It's really the only thing I enjoy from Arby's. They used to have some really good items, but many of them get changed out for newer offerings. The jalapeno sliders are really good, as well, but not very filling.

Diane, Arby's IS known for their roast beef sandwich thus the name: R.B.'s (or Arby's...abbreviation for roast beef.) HOWEVER...we in America usually get the Arby's Sauce for it because it IS bland otherwise.
Next time try the beef 'n' cheddar. It comes on an onion roll with Catalina Dressing inside. Very tasty indeed.
Also..."Gyro" is actually pronounced: YEE-ro and remember to roll the "r."
MOST standard gyros have pita bread; tomato; onions; and lamb. Tsatsiki (pronounced just like it is spelled) is the standard sauce and recommended one as well.
The closest way I can describe it is: A creamed cucumber dressing that looks like ranch dressing but has a flavor all its own.

Oh, dessert-wise, you missed out. The Jamocha shake is really good, and the cherry turnover slaps hard. And the roast beef sandwiches do REALLY need the sauce. The Arby's sauce is the shizz-nitz, and you can buy it in the grocery store in bottles now.
You know what that's REALLY good for? Pour it over a pork roast in a crock pot and a few hours later you've got... really nice pulled pork.

Arby's is my favorite fast food place. The Smokehouse Brisket is literally the best sandwich you can get from a chain restaurant. The Beef 'N Cheddar is amazing. The Classic Roast Beef is supposed to have Arby's sauce on it, so you are eating half a sandwich there.

Additionally, you need the "Horsey Sauce" to get the full impact/flavor of their Regular Sandwiches!

The Arby's beef sandwiches are much better with the Horsey (Horse radish based) sauce or the red "BB" sauce. If you ever get out to Washington State on the West Coast of the U.S. I would heartily recommend Famous Dave's BBQ in Tacoma, and Iver's Fish & Chips. The cod is the best and their clam chowder is fantastic. Lacey has a great Mexican Taco truck, Taco Amigo, which IMHO, makes the best taco's and burritos in the area. I can't really recommend much else in that area,. but a visit to Brown & Haleys Store is a must if you like chocolate.. ( You can even buy 5 LB slabs of it there!)

I don't eat fast food very often, but Arby's is good. The roast beef sandwich needed sauce - either Arby's sauce (which is kind of like BBQ combined with ketchup) or Horsey Sauce (mayo with horseradish). The gyro looked delicious. The bread is called a pita which originated in the Middle East. The sauce on the gyro is called tzatziki sauce. It's usually made with Greek yogurt, cucumbers, lemon juice, minced garlic, and fresh dill. However Arby's replaces the Greek yogurt with sour cream. The only thing I think you missed out on are their curly fries which are seasoned with cayenne and paprika with hints of garlic and onion. I like to dip them in Arby's sauce. But you can't go wrong with crinkle fries either. Glad you enjoyed it! And I'm with you - I love Dr. Pepper!

    Hey Diane!
Two notes on your review of Arby's:
    1) you have to sause thar roast beef sandwich. I like the Arby's sauce.
    2) ive never had a gyro at Arby's, but if that was mayo on ot, that would be a travesty. Tzatziki sause is a creamy cucumber-based sauce that's ideal for a gyro, and that is what you'll find on an authentic Greek gyro.

I’ll take Arby’s over McDonald’s or some of the other fast food joints in North America, but I typically steer clear. When you’re really hungry, a beef and cheddar with horseradish sauce is better than a Big Mac. But my family is Irish and Welsh, so I always have horseradish and Keene’s hot mustard in my fridge. I make my own horseradish sauce with creme fraiche and fresh herbs. I don’t eat sandwiches with thick sliced meat either. It has to be paper thin. I have an Italian deli where I get all my meats, cheese, arugula and fresh bread.

I guess we have so many "burger" places here we like Arby's because they have sliced meat or pulled pork instead of ground meats. Also, as many commenters have said, the "Horsey Sauce" (a very mild horseradish sauce) adds a great flavor kick. I think Arby's are over-priced a bit, so it's not a place that is frequented as often as Burger King or Whataburger, etc. Honestly, most of us try to cook at home more than go for fast food because they use so much processed foods, fats, and preservatives which is a lot of calories.

The roast beef sandwich is only good with cheese and with the Arby's Sauce and the Horsey Sauce. And you haven't really had Arby's until you've had their curly fries (they come nicely seasoned), their apple turnover, and their Jamocha shake.
They used to be better but something happened 10-ish years ago that reduced the quality of their food. Still, they're better than several other fast food spots.

    @jimspetdragons3737 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You are right. A sandwich is 2 slices of bread. Don't know where calling everything a sandwich came from. That may only be a fast food construct.
You should have tried the Arby's sauce w/ the Roast Beef 'burger.' (use 1/2 a packet or it gets messy). (Horseradish sauce for those who like it. It's an acquired taste). Also, the beef and cheese is really good. Footnote: Their buns could be better.
