“Dae Jang Geum” or “Jewel in the Palace” is a 2003 Korean TV Drama based on the life of Jang Geum, a girl who rose up to become Joseon Korea’s most famous physician. This TV show is one of the most famous Korean Dramas of all time.
However, in part two of this two-part series, we will instead focus on the life of the real life Jang Geum, and how being an uinyeo (female physician) in Joseon Korea was not for the glamourous and faint-hearted.
