This shows that nobody is perfect. Lum isn’t perfect. Like any kid, they are afraid of being punished and will do sneaky things to not get in trouble. It’s really the parents who must do better and Rans mom is the worst. I feel sorry for Ran.

Of course, it is. She's the original Lum. She's also famous for having a very distinct voice. Not even the new Lum voice actress could replicate her range and emotion from the OG series. I highly recommend looking up clips from the OG Urusei Yatsura and see her work.

Still Ran's mother was still abusive emotionally. At 1:43 Ran's mother in the original smacked Ran in the back of the head saying you should be like Lum. It's just how it was written back then.

only if you forget this is fiction and this is the main reason for ran resentment to lum,here lum is kinda cute but she actually was kind of a little jerk in the manga,also you forget that they are aliens and could be very wild,this version is very tamed from the original,instead of triying to bring that world to our standards it would be more logical to keep them in their onw fictional universe and concentrate more on the story.
They removed the spanking because it’s negatively perceived these days, versus back then. I think Ran was whacked twice!

I think they should’ve left it in to show how much her mom sucks! I don’t remember a time my sister ever got spanked for a good reason, so seeing the original clips really made me despise the mom and reminded me of when we were little.

It's not to dry the sheet but to put it under the sun to kill the germs and to make it fluffier for when you sleep. You can often see it in anime when the housewife puts the futon out on the balcony and beat it with a bat or something.
You have to hang it before you wash it.
As someone who cleans her own bedwetting sheet because my mom told me I would have to clean up after myself so I don't get used to peeing on bed and just pee in the wc before bed.
You hang it to remove the smell and then you soak it on mild bleach for 30 minutes and rinse it and chuck it in the washing machine with detergent and roll for 30 minutes and then fabcon then dry and hang out in the sun again.
You sun dry too to give your sheets sun smell that sometimes smells like marshmallows or peanuts

I dont think shes purposely shifting the blame on ran tho. Lum is probably scared too if her mom knows she peed the bed that her own mom would react the same (in the original ran's mom smacked ran in case u dont know). Not defending her but her decisions are understandable at her age.

Lo que son los traumas de la infancia, algo tan normal como un niño pequeño haciéndose pipí la madre lo hizo algo enorme y lo peor fue que Ran no había sido, sino Lum, Lum se quedó callada porque pensó que su mamá se pondría igual si sabía la verdad. I would argue that Ataru's parents also are. The main reason Ataru and Ran turned out the way they did is the way their parents treated them (I know because I had s*** parents too). In all seriousness, though, I hope such parenting will remain a thing of the past.
