  • Have you ever been left to setup the picnic or camping shade by yourself? While pop up canopies have made portable shade much more accessible in recent years, having a helping hand really makes construction a lot easier. However, with a couple of tricks and practice you'll be impressing everyone on the beach with your canopy skills. In this video you'll see how to put up a canopy by yourself - or at least the best way I know how!

I feel like this would be quite hard to do on gravel which is how I’ll have to solo set up my canopy. With grass you can somewhat dig into the soil from the side you’re not holding to keep it in place while you pull the other side and it provides grip. On gravel or pavement it’s just going to move with you.

Thank you so much for this video. I am actually setting up our 10x10 canopy by myself for my chickens. We are having extreme heat right now and I am providing shade for them. This video was awesome.

Gazebos seem to come in two forms. They ones with the central verticle poles or the ones with the 4 concertina ridge bars up to a central point. I personally find the ones with the central pole prone to water pooling unless you add some sort of anti pooling feature, Where as the 4 ridge bars do not suffer from this problem.
It's unclear to me which of these two styles fold up smaller in length for transportation in your vehicle.

Hi Bruce, yea the cathedral type (ridge) gazebos are technically better at water pooling, but structurally the cross braced (central pole) are stronger...the best of both worlds is, as you say, a cross-braced with some kind of anti-pooling...or use the pool noodle trick

Hi Nicola, this is a ‘red track’ brand available on Amazon Australia. It’s not the best quality and Ive had some issues with it since the video, so I prob wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re just after a cheap one. Let me know if I can help further
