i know this is an old video. But a great review!! Most reviews spend 5 seconds on the "Clean" channel and 5 minutes on the dirty channel. This review shows both. Thanks
Good players get good tones - really like Jim's demo style. He gets a wide variety of nice sounds from an affordable mid-price amp. A lot of players want more than just shred/noodle and it's nice to have someone demo that way. Jazzy chords on a Marshall? He and the amp pull it off and I like that - unconventional!
Great amp. I promptly swapped the speaker with a WGS reaper and the sound is just amazing. The stock speakers are a bit harsh. Now with a reaper, its got that marshall roar. For a more classic rock sound, switch to the half power setting.
@@sdrizaAnother year on… yes, it sounds great. I have one, because I wanted a cheap tube amp. Previously I had a JCM 800 2 x 12 combo that I sold in a moment of poverty… and have regretted it ever since.
@@mikaelbiilmann6826 Sorry to hear that - I've gotten rid of a couple things over the years that I regret... The downside of that regret is that now I get rid of NOTHING.... I suppose it has made me more selective in purchasing (maybe?) Hope you get a JCM800 back!!! that is THE ONE
I have one. Johnnyeggs mods and Celestion G12H30 Anniversary speaker in 16 ohms. Tubes are JJ 6V6S Double Mica, Mullard Blackburn ecc83 in V1, V2 is USA made Tung Sol ecc83, V3 Sylvania long plate ecc83 and a JJ balanced ecc83 for PI. Sweet rocker.
Nice review man. I thought it sounded a bit rubbish at the end when you turned everything up but it sounded great when you rolled the volume off and the amp on low gain. Before that the crunch sounded good too. Nice playing too 👍🏻
Have this amp and like it. Speaker sounds excellent and it's one I've never heard of. There's next to nothing about G12E-60s online anywhere, and they're not in the Celestion website. I can't imagine why Celestion are ashamed of the G12E-60; there's no reason to be...
Most manufacturers of amps load them with the cheapest tubes and speakers, at least most mass produced ones. The good thing is we can replace those things just as easily with high quality parts...rock on
I'm thinking of getting the head version of this amp which I've tried out at GC . I really liked it and it was going through a 4x12 cab but I would probably get a 2x12 cab .
"MELLOWER SOUND", that's what i'm after. When you clean the volume on guitar combined with low gain and more volume (power amp drive), this is the sound. Simply amazing. I was thinking on a Fender Blues Junior Creamy Wine w/ Hex Cannabis Speaker, but i think this is much better, to the sound i want.
I have the 15-watter, and the amp isn't mellower sounding one. the Ultra Gain channel is comparable to "lead 2" setting on the DSL40C.. You're probably gonna end up modding the amp to get rid of the fizz/buzz... TH-cam some of the mods for the DSL15 and you'll hear how clear sounding the gain after the mod.
That's the only thing i'm afraid, the "fizz/buzz" that i don't like on the DSL401 i hear from a friend's amp. Thank you for your tip, i'll look for these mods.
LOL, I saw the bald head and thought it was Mark Lucas ......UNTIL the opening riff. LOL You've got that Jazz stuff down like Mark :-) Good Demo. I was lucky enough to find an original DSL2000 Head 100W and the tone is fantastic.
Cool amp - but the lack of FX loop still baffles me... The others in the range have it (DSL1/20/40)? Shame because I love 6V6 amps and I'm sure others do too.
N Stuff Music I picked one up yesterday at a price I couldn't resist (obviously). For straight up playing and jamming it doesn't really bother me that much. It does do the DSL thing.
I have this amp , and tho it has the two channels , I find myself wanting to be somewhere between classic gain and ultra gain ... ultra gain is to much imo I find that I'm always having to dial it down with the volume on the guitar ... The classic gain doesn't drive enough with my 52 tele .... this could have been a really great amp but instead it is just Ok to good ... the 40w version would have been loads better for me if it came as a head ...
Totally agree, im currently just using the amps ultra ch with the gain on 3 and using a blues driver on both channels to make up for the lack of a "crunch" option, Currently i have an a/b box switching to my blues junior for cleans and just the dirty ch on the DSL. b/c using it as a true two channel amp (which should destroy any blues jr for versatility,) is very difficult if not impossible to get the clean ch to be anywhere near the volume of the dirt channel. i have it, i like it, but it COULDVE been so much more. Poor design, imo

he has to be one of the very best demo guys out there
I love it when the reviewer can actually play both jazzy and heavy music. Cheers from Brazil!
One of the better demos of the dsl15c, IMO. Can't wait for its arrival.
Fantastic review on this amp. Dude is a great player, and knows his tones. Very well done! Thank you.

Wow I’m 10 years late, but that guy has great tone and is a great player
beat me by a year

Good demo, would've been nice to hear a Strat through it.

Great job, nice to see a useful review.

openig the presence and closing the treble you avoid all the zzzz without missing treble and you get yhe old time rock classic sound

Wow! Shiny Head. Your head got my attention than the amp xD LOL
Sir you made me laugh hard. Thanks.
:D
+Red Snow It's pretty mind boggling, what will distract people nowadays.....
i conciidered this , then i bought the sl5 . now im happy
Does the EQ work on the clean channel?

This amp is discontinued but was a nice amp.

How do you think this would sound with a Les Paul with P90's. Maybe a bit noisy?

***** I have now sold this amp , wasn't something I could keep , I demoed a lot of amps , I ended up with the Orange Or50 ... :D

Sounds Great!
great amp..till now the only marshall that i actually enjoy..if only it was a bit cheaper and had an fx-loop...
This amp doesn't sound like it does metal well . Maybe with a external drive through the return
Do you prefer the 15 over the 40?
You guys should demo some Jet City amps :D
I wonder this one versus the Vox AC15z
looks like joe sat!
Very noisy with the distortion channel
The classic section was sexy
its not the best amp for the money but its the only one if an od channel that sounds like slash's tone...
Nice video !
The 40C was thin to my ears. It doesn't have the thump even with the deep button engaged.
6:36 song ?
i dont know if there is some actual name for this, but this amp is very shred solo unfriendly lol
Hahaha pedals my friend pedals
@@87JRox yea I was 16 at the time
😂😂😂
Thanks for not using pedals for effects.
sold
Must be great for Les Paul's but I'm a Reverend and Stratocaster guy and wow am I glad I got a Blues Jr
So you came on here to tell everyone how glad you are that you don’t have this amp?
Jesus Loves You
And you as well.
sounds muddy, even in the bridge, it's got kind of a fuzz to it....
Mox_au Thats the mic
Reuben Kaufman I think
I ended up buying the 5C, couldn't be happier. Much better sounding amp.
can you gig with it?
Reuben Kaufman It can plug up to a 16ohm 4x12 cab, so yeah. on it's own, maybe a small pub or cafe gig
sound recorded with microphone is not real...better heard it live...
That's a bitchin' jazz tone you get out of your Marshall,..,,.Said NO ONE EVER! Dime it out from 00:1!
Just didnt like the sound of it.
SOUNDS LIKE DIODE CLIPPING TO ME MIGHT AS WELL PURCHASE A SS AMP LIKE A PEAVEY TRANSTUBE IT WOULD SOUND BETTER.
Hi
Was that joe satriani.lol
Listen to all that hum and buzz. Not good. Even with hum buckers.
it’s a little hairy))))lol
horrible ultra gain channel
very noisy amp terrible hum for such a small thing
I'm never liked the Marshall sound...
