The thing is, this was a masterful at bat for Soler. He made Garcia give him the pitch he wanted. He stayed patient, tested it out and made Garcia mess up. It was amazing to watch.
Once Soler fouled off the last two pitches. I told everyone at the watch party, Soler is about to send one over the fence if Garcia throws him another breaking ball. Well that was a bit of an understatement cause he sent it over the stadium. As soon as he hit it. I was like "Oh God!!! That ball just got obliterated."🤣🤣🤣
I owned this guy in fantasy for half the season. He was absolutely putrid. Seeing him hit the game-winning HR to clinch the World Series title is what makes sports great.
Soler is the reason why MLB has had some financial troubles over the last few years. People with class and IQ don't want to see that kind of gross behavior.
The best part to me was the turn to the Braves' dugout as soon as he hit it. Even though this was the home run of his life-and a rare chance at an out-of-the-stadium blast--he didn't wait to see where it landed. Instead, he turned to share the moment with his teammates. I can't read lips, but in my head he said something like "Lo hacemos, chicos. VAMOS." ("We got this, boys. LET'S GO.") Anyone who says baseball isn't *really* a team sport (which included me up until I saw these Braves) just needs to watch this video and this team.
Agree with all of that. It was personally my favorite part of the game. I loved that he knew it was gone as soon as he hit it and flexed with his teammates. I let out a confident laugh and felt the Astros were in for a long night. So happy for this team.
I'm so curious about what he said right after he hit it, when he bangs his chest and gestures to his dugout. I definitely heard "vamos" after he rounded the bases, but the first part that you added makes it a lot more badass, too!
Being from generations and generations of Braves fans. Born 4 months after their last WS win in 95’. Being at Truist for games 3&4 of the NLDS, then being at game 6 of the NLCS, standing 10 feet from the ball that Eddie hit in the 4th that absolutely jolted the ATL. Every game of this postseason I look back and can remember exactly how I felt at every moment. Brings tears to my eyes 2 years later watching this swing, what it meant, how it happened, everything about the moment. How can you not be romantic about baseball

I am an Atlanta native and been a Braves fan since 1966 when they moved here. I was at Atlanta Stadium with my parents in April of 1974 and saw Aaron hit the home run to beat Babe Ruth's record. I still have the program from that night but somehow I lost the ticket stub.
I was in Atlanta Stadium on April 8th, 1974, as well when Aaron hit 715. I was with my parents as well and like you, I don’t know what happened to my ticket stub. I also was at the ‘72 All Star Game in Atlanta and was incredibly fortunate to have seen Phil Niekro pitch his only no hitter against the Padres. The score was 9-0 and it was in August of ‘73 I think.

Dusty's a great coach. The clutch hitting from the Braves really shocked me, especially after they pissed away the grandslam in the prior game, with some of the most horrendous pitching I've seen in a game for the home fans, hoping to seal the deal. I'm a Braves fan, glad they finally won (in full length season)--but relative to how the world is going down the toilet, I just don't care about any of it as much as I used to. There's more to life than this stuff. Great seasons by both teams, and at least Houston knows that Fried was just awesome, the hitting was clutch, the Astros didn't choke it away.

Also he told the reporter he said "I'm here" when he pointed at the dugout but what he actually said, once to the dugout and again to himself when he watched it sail out of the stadium, (from reading his lips) is pretty obviously "Nuestro hora" which is Spanish for "Our time". Pretty sick. He just didn't want to show up Correa like that to the media. Respect.
