@@brendanpasmore716 i agree, i agree. but i wish more people would get lost into this book. so perhaps a modest adaptation of certain aspects of the book might get them there. no?
Almost cried. If this book could even remotely be translated to a media outside of text, this would definitely be the perfect trailer for a movie/show, but as it is it's an amazing display of what makes this book so profoundly unique.
This introduced me to Ulver, and I couldn't believe that a) this was made LONG before this style of show opening became the norm, and b) the song was written at least a full year before House of Leaves existed! Fantastic work, my favorite part is the key change with "Navidson is sinking - or the stairway is stretching, expanding"
This is not only a feast for the eyes, but the music too is spliced together so seamlessly you would never know it was a shortened version of the original track. Amazing editing all around, hope you've went on to great places since this was created.
thank you, i really appreciate the kind words :) when i made this i had no idea what i wanted to do professionally .. in recent years i've been working as an assistant editor in documentary and television
phenomenal work!!! i’m nearly finished with my first reading of HoL and this stellar edit really captures the feeling of being lost in those pages incredibly well
I'm ...a little late to the party, having only just read the book, but DAMN, for those unfamiliar with ergodic literature (or _House of Leaves_ itself) this could serve _so well_ as a video trailer for the book. Not bad at all for some uni assignment in the early '10s!
Although I would be curious to see how a ''House of Leaves'' movie would have turned out, I can understand MZD's refusal of the thing. It wouldn't have the same feel...
This video is AMAZING. This is my favorite book of all time, so finding this made me have a nerdgasm. This is also what I would personally envision the opening titles of a movie version to be like (though I agree with most fans of the book that a movie version would be so difficult it would most likely fail spectacularly).
incredible, I had this Ulver-song in my mind when I was reading the book - and now they are combined. I just loved the hallways of always-parts in House Of Leaves :) Great work with the animation
@B4seline18 Thanks for the love :) I've never heard poe's music before unfortunately- nor have I posted this on facebook in a very long time so I'm really glad people like it I had never used After Effects or any post processing software for that matter prior, just some experience with Flash from a few years earlier... haven't touched it since either I'm sad to say.. but you should!
some other people said it before here but i'll say it again. long after it's been made. this would make for a PERFECT intro to a series inspired by the book kudos to the maker
I think if it were turned into a miniseries or show, or whatever else, it would have to be entirely unique from other projects like it. It would need to touch the eyes and ears in a very specific way that I don't think can be adequately achieved unless done by someone who understands why it's so horrifying. This is a great video though. It really does come together like a trailer.
Excellentissime video ! I took the liberty of resuming it with another music and some additional sounds to make it more TV series generic ! (by attributing you of course the merit of this superb animation!).
This is really great! I just read the book recently as part of a challenge (52 books in 52 weeks). Your video really captures some of the essence of House of Leaves.
This is incredible, well, well, well, well done. Also, I know that teh internet is filled with people who endlessly pine for the title of "first," driving them to all ends to achieve their goal but damn, who is the one guy who disliked this?
Incredible, incredible. I have watched this so many times.... absolutely perfect. I have no other words. Great work!!!! If I was MZD I'd hire you on the spot to make promo vids like this for all my books... ;)
@99DarkWolf99 Thanks mate. God no!!!! Haha, might've typed a few things here and there but for the huge blocks of text I used some text recognition software (possibly contained within Adobe Acrobat I can't remember) on a scanned pdf version of the book. Copy + paste, very easy :)
well this has a demoman seal of approval! (When did I comment this and how did I find this video twice?) [Third time? Seriously what are you doing, is this some kind of message?]
Hah! I just finished it aswell...took me 42 days XD* Now I don't know whether to read "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green, or "The Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie. --------------------------------------- *of mindscrew and paranoia D:
hmm- I think the Fault in Our Stars may be on my list later in the year, but I'm not sure. I'm currently reading "The World According to Garp" by John Irving and I love it. If you check out my channel, I'm doing a weekly book review as part of my challenge, so it may be a good place for recommendations.
This would be the perfect intro for an HBO miniseries based on this book
Still.
Mark dosent want any iterations of the non-texr book as it would dismiss all meaning of "falling into insanity"

Not True.
MZD has actually drafted his own teleplays
They can be found online fairly easily

My god this is so well edited. I never thought you could have a visual trailer for a book but this video has proven me wrong
thanks Dilan it's an old video now but I still enjoy reading the kind comments. glad you enjoyed it
This is amazing! I just recently finished this book and am doing a project on it! This is definitely going on slide #1! This is incredible!
i can't even watch all of this with how legitimately traumatizing that book was. i can't get past "or the stairs were sinking"
FTAIRES! WE HAUE FOUND FTAIRES!
I'm reading the book for the first time right now. I play this video at the start of every reading session.
This is so great. It's like a trailer for the book!
Only just finished this masterpiece and I'm amazed it took a Supereyepatchwolf video for me to even find out it existed.
Everything about this is perfect. And Ulver over the top, stroke of genius, sir. This should be used as a TV spot for the book.
this is amazing. And Ulver - the perfect fit ! A real trail rather than a trailer.
I could 100% see this as the intro for the Netflix series that MZD was apparently in talks about not too long ago.
This makes so much more sense after finally reading the book. Loved it by the way. Would recommend to everyone.

I just started the book after thumbing through it at B&N, and I feel like this summarizes what I am about to be diving into really really well.
some other people said it before here but i'll say it again. long after it's been made.

This was so incredibly well done. It brought a huge smile to my face to see such a ... different novel come to life on a screen.
This video sums up the book perfectly. At least the experience of reading it.
Excellent video.
I love this. It also reminds me that I need to listen to more Ulver.
Amazing. I love this
Holy hell. If I want to suggest to anyone to read House of Leaves, I'd show them this video.
This is so unbelievably cool. It's like it's simultaneously completely different from the book and yet done in the exact same spirit. I love it!
This is absolutely amazing. It fit completely with the theme of the novel.
I know this is an old post, but this was awesome! I could have watched it go on for several more minutes. Bravo
Fantastic. Gave me goosebumps.
Reading it right now for the first time. This video is amazing!!!! You’re extremely talented
I am surprised it was made 15 years ago.
If there was ever a commercial for a book, this is it

Absolutely phenomenal, cannot get over this.
This is fantastic. Music choice is superb.
Hey, this is really well done. Really like it, suits the book well and all.
This has made me all kinds of happy. Incredible.
Goddamn, this only makes me yearn for a movie of "The Navidson Record" more.
