"He was smart but smart way to late"
This is the main issue with odysseus throughout the musical.
Polites was Odysseus' dearest friend and in the musical is portrayed as a scout rather than the rest of the crew who are soldiers. He believes in peace and love, not war and bloodshed and probably has no violent bone in his body (in the musical).
Some more background on Polyphemus the cyclops. Basically hes like the annoying little brother that his older brothers dont like, so he takes comfort in raising his sheep. All of his sheep are very precious to him as a result and are his only companions, so imagine how this little kid of a cyclops comes back to his safe place to find these little creatures had invaded and killed his friends, then mutilated him. Then when he asked his brothers for help they just ignored him. Like mans was goin through it fr.
So naturally he's going to snitch to his dad.
*ominious water noises*
Odysseus called himself nobody to the cyclops in the original myth aswell.
i love all these explanations your giving me!
@@ShyGuyPlus thanks
Little Ajax isn't a kid, he is called Lesser Ajax while his elder brother is Great Ajax.
Lesser Ajax is actually killed by either Athena or Poseidon...
Odysseus shock here hits so hard, cuz its the first time in 10 years of blooshed he is seeing his own men die, and its no less started with his childhood best friend D: poor Ody.... an interesting moral dilemma though, in the other hand, is that Polyphemus was technically a child. Its why he is friends with sheep, and so cast aside by other cyclops, who also sound so much deeper and bigger than him. Why he was so easily petty and fooled by 'Nobody' thing. Its never openly stated i belueve, dont remember, but very strongly hinted. Which makes the flash of Ody thinking of the infant of video 1 when saying 'only one enemy' as they fight the cyclops hit harder...
The fact Oddyseus insulted Athena is crazy. Most people who suffered from the gods suffered gruesomely for calling the gods selfish, prideful or vain and oddyseus called Athena all three and got absolutely 0 consequences aswell aswell as saying she simply claimed to be wise any other person would've been smited athousand fold and turned into some horrible monster.
Yeah honestly he should have been toast right then and there… end of the musical lol
In the original myth oddyseus told the cyclops his name to gloat in an act of pride whereas here he told them as some form of vengeance
And out if grief fall the loss of his friends
Out of grief for
Sidenote, i miiiiight be wrong, but i do think Ajax died. I believe in a summary i revised the odyssey in a few years back its mentioned he is one of the people Ody later meets as ghosts, as story progresses. He wasnt part of Odysseus 'people' though, only one of his greek allies against Troy, so when he began this journey he and many others went their sepparate ways, most the named folk in that intro in fact were not part of his 600 men
Correct. There were two important Greek warriors named Ajax fighting in the Trojan War, which is why in the first song Odysseus specifies "Little Ajax". Neither of them were Ithacans (Odysseus's people), just allies of his, and neither of them made it home from the war. They both came to bad ends. Greater Ajax died before the war was over, while Lesser ('Little') Ajax died immediately after setting sail for home. Greater Ajax is the one whose ghost Odysseus speaks to in the Odyssey.
"if we don't fight we die" polites took that literally💀💀💀
Polites in the animatic threw away his sword. He literally refused to raise his blade because he genuinely wanted to reach a peaceful outcome, and it makes it hurt worse because he was the first one to die.
Okay you're not wrong though, why tf was Polites STANDING THERE if he WASN'T EVEN FIGHTING 😭😭
Polythemes is pronounced poly-theme-us
*Polyphemus or Polyphemos
They didn't say scary cave they said he'll hear you
No they said scary cave, it doesn’t even sound like the words he’ll hear you
In the official lyric video in the live streams it says the lotus eaters say
“The cave (scary cave)”
