    Sitting on the rest for Q4

    I passed on the Colosseum because it was continuously in stock in my country and most LEGO TH-camrs thought it was going to be a stinker. The modulars like the Police Station I do have though

    The world map is doing quite well. I bought one for my personal collection back in October when Lego had it marked 25% off. Wish I had purchased another one, but it's even going for higher than retail used on ebay.

    Colosseum, Paradise and Hammer didn't sell well in the Lego stores and was discounted near the end, then quietly retired, same for Birds of Paradise, which is probably why Lego decided to retire them early. Can you explain how we can anticipate these surprises? I usually try to find popular sets. These were unpopular sets. Paradise and Hammer were Target exclusives so maybe that was one factor in their post-retirement success.

      @BrickBucks  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Demand is only one half of the story. You also gotta think about expected supply in the aftermarket, and these sets have low supply. Also, I don't the demand was as low as you think on any of those three

      Sometimes I’ll assume a set isn’t selling well, but that may or may not be true. I thought Bird of Paradise was way over-priced at $100, but when I looked at eBay in the months leading up to retirement people were paying $90 all day long. So when it went on sale at $60 on Black Friday, I bought all I could. Didn’t know it would pop to $185, but felt confident it would do well.

      I’m almost positive that the Colosseum was never actually on sale at the Lego store.
      The reason it’s expensive is because everyone was waiting for a Black Friday sale and one day it was gone.

    I like this channel, but I think the prices you are mentioning give a too positive and non-realistic idea of Lego investing: all these sets you mentioned are to be found on Bricklink for cheaper prices, often for the half of the prices you are mentioning; yes: new and sealed packages. In the case of the Colosseum you can find for 441 euros; So why anyone should go on E-bay and pay it 700+ when you can get it for 441 euros? I don't think that counting on the "ignorance" of buyers (assuming they don't know Bricklink and opt instead for e-bay, amazon etc.) is a reliable investing strategy; it might work, due to the luck factor, in the short term maybe, but not in the average/long term. People will educate themselves, will avoid websites where prices are high, and will find websites with the best prices (Bricklink).

    • @BrickBucks
      @BrickBucks  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sounds like you are in Europe, and as mentioned countless times in the video, these prices are US Amazon. Different markets and platforms lead to different prices. I sell on Amazon in the US, not BrickLink in Europe. And the prices in the video are not my opinion, they're real market prices that are actually selling. Anyone in the US can avail of those prices by simply learning to sell on Amazon, so it's perfectly realistic and the prices that I and countless people in my communities do sell for

    • @Damian-dt7ij
      @Damian-dt7ij 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I heard this argument several times in your videos, but still.. If the price difference is so huge, isn't it just more convenient for a US buyer to buy from China, Europe etc. even if the shipping costs are a bit more expensive? I do believe that those items are there on Amazon and E-bay with those prices, but my questions would be do they really sell? And if yes, for how long with those inflated prices? It's a little bit like when you see on Bricklink a Goatherd minifigure on sale for 25 euros (yes, for real!). Sure, it's there for 25 euros and.. probably it will stay there, nobody will buy it, simply because there are other users selling it for 5/8 euros. Inflated prices on Amazon and E-bay? I guess they might sell once or twice, to ill-informed buyers or because maybe in that moment there is no other options but long term? Hmmm... especially considering that we are talking about expensive items and I would assume buyers are collectors/investors mainly so, they tend to do their homework and search for the cheapest option of a specific set @@BrickBucks

    • @BrickBucks
      @BrickBucks  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Damian-dt7ij every price I ever show in my videos is actually selling at those prices. I never show crazy inflated prices just because there are items listed at those prices. I show real market prices, based on actual recent sales. When I show Amazon prices, I use a tool called Keepa to verify that there are recent sales at these prices. And for eBay, I filter to see the recent sales, and take an average of the selling prices to get my market price. So the answer is yes, all of these sets are actually selling at the prices I show in the video...and they're selling like hot cakes

    Hi. I’m new to Lego investing. I wanted to get opinions from those with more experience. I recently got a fabulous deal on some retired Star Wars sets... As near as I can tell, 1 retired in 2012 (7962) 1 retired in 2014 (7965) 1 retired in 2015 (9493) 2 retired in 2015 (75049 & 75054) & 1 retired in 2016 (75092). Along with those I got the NASA Saturn V (21409) which retired in 2020. In your opinion, am I smarter to hold any of these for a couple years or sell now? I assume the largest jump in value happens within the year or 2 following retirement? Thanks in advance

    Regret not buying more copies of the Bird of Paradise, but pleased other sets I invested in are already appreciating nicely, like Winnie the Pooh but also the Dagobah diorama. I expect to make a 100% return on that one by the end of the year, they were always on discount these past few months.

    Just got the Old Fishing Store from Ali Express for $63 after shipping. Great build and exact piece for piece with the Lego one. Printed pieces and all. Shocked that people pay this much just cause the little pegs says Lego. I buy a ton of Legos but if I miss them when they retire I just grab it from China lol. Props on the hustle though. Even got the data. Didn't realize it was this in depth for people. Seeing more and more of these videos though.

    Im stop to selling because receive complaints letters from Vorys, what do you do when this happened to you, for sure you alredy receive it.

    • @BrickBucks
      @BrickBucks  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is not legal advice, and I am simply sharing my own opinion and what I choose to do in my business. But my opinion is that I tear up those letters and throw them away. There is no law against reselling items that you own. Vorys tries to claim that you are breaching a copyright law, and that's simply not true. There is only a breach of copyright if you try to alter the brand or packaging of the items in some way before you sell it. Selling a sealed LEGO set exactly as is is perfectly legal, so I ignore any letters that are attempts to get me to stop selling online.
