Term times not the time to go on holiday. Unless of course you are well off and your child attends a private school 🙄🙄 double standards
I was classed as a truant when I stopped going to school after I was bullied heavily for a fair while , the school did nothing and had other things happen to the point of getting agoraphobia and severe depression, my school didn’t grasp the basics of mental health, if this was the situation then I’d of had to explain to a court why, considering I couldn’t leave my home at the time and often that isn’t taken into account as a good enough reason to do it over video then it would of ment severe punishment for something that wasn’t my fault, before something like this is implemented the justice system needs a serous shake up about the support and reasonable adjustments it gives people and for them to be mandatory and not just on the whim of the court. Schools as a whole need to be made clear to that mental health is real and that it’s not truanting it’s a child that desperately needs help or I see this going terribly wrong
I don't think parents should be taken to prison for children not going to school. Who would look after them then? I remember back in my later years of school when school started saying parent would be fined for not sending children. It put a lot of stress on my mum the thought as she couldn't get me to school anymore because I was bullied so much throughout my time at all schools that it caused me extreme anxiety and honestly it was the school adults that did nothing despite the burses from other children. And as an adult now I still have the affects of school and how it shaped me. so I think instead of scaring parents, send the police into schools and help with bullying provision so kids can learn safely and so their parents don't have to struggle to get them to school.
Yeah, I am sure the mountains of police we have will love the extra work.
As an American parent of two daughters, I had this issue while they were in school. I raised my daughters as a single father, after their Mothers passing. They got decent grades, participated in school sports and generally did well. The school however, had issues when I would keep them out of school to attend Native American Pow Wows on long weekends. These constituted perhaps twelve days during an entire school year. I wrote excuses months ahead of time, turned them in. School always said they were "Unexcused". Eventually I had to spend money to hire a lawyer and have him draft a letter to the school, threatening Legal Action. Never had any more issues after that. Schools do NOT own our children.
We used to have Educational Welfare Officers who would visit persistent truants and work out how to get them back into school. Reasons for not attending were addressed. Then the role was cut to save money.
The UK is such a joke of a country heading towards the cyberpunk distopian future..
What they should be doing is stopping the tour companies from over pricing during school holidays . The parents that do not get out of bed to send their children to school should be heavily fined . I suggest that children should not be allowed to leave school untill they have attended the full term . Maybe schools should contact the parents whenever they are not in school
They dont even respond to burglary and you want them to start going out to truancy?
The police don't attend reported crimes now. What chance do they have in chasing down little Joey and his parents?
Call me old school. But the thought of the board man as I knew the term coming around was enough usually but I did knock it off a couple of times. And I have to confess, a clip around the ear/ metaphor for the slipper, cane or ruler was actually a deterrent in at least showing or giving respect of sorts...and I think the best time to be born would be the 30s as it's pretty much game over in the sense of this obvious crazy world and is surely getting crazy 🤣 and at least a bit of a life time of normal behaviour... have you seen the state of the country and of politics and politicians in the UK recently... hence my humour about being born roughly in the 30s to miss this utter nonsense lol
no. Or send the police to school when they close, get a grip.
Seems a bit excessive. We'll end up being a police state.
Kids are spoiled now
Bring back truancy officers.. properly trained in dealing with mental health & all its dysfunctional issues.. obviously this will need correct funding & be well thought out.. so it isn’t a sticking plaster like most schemes in this nation have become.. hence now they are being politicised to win votes.. this shouldn’t be the case.. 🙄🙄🤔😎
