Research approach and Design are loosely used as synonyms. Research Approach is the base plan of research like case control study - and in research design this approach is detailed to include exact methods to be used for data collection , analysis and inference or conclusion. Research design define research subjects and how those will be treated during data collection. It defines sample size for desired significance level and power . It also define analysis approach and reporting.
