I know the feeling, I played Skye Boat at a childhood friend’s funeral on me bagpipes at his funeral. Now when I play or hear that tune. I can’t help thinking of my friend. We were friends from 1st grade until high school.
Years ago in Birmingham Alabama we had an easy listening station then 96.5 WQEZ FM & they played what I'd call elevator music. This was one of those tunes. My aunt would tune to that station while we rode in her Cadillac...I really underappreciated those moments. I'd give just about anything to recapture just a sliver of those times.
When I was a kid I used to take a hand held radio to bed and tune into a station that played this regularly, I later worked it out on guitar. I'm 64 now and this is the first time I've heard this in more than 50 years....still sounds great.
I'm 54, but it's been about 40 years since I last heard... The best thing is that I heard it in a Scooter cover a few days ago, and the tune was instantly familiar ... finally found it!!!
Wow. A moment ago it was 2023. Now, it's 1974 and I'm 9 yrs old riding in an old rickety elevator to the third floor of some obscure medical building to receive a filling from my dentist in Rochester, NY. It worked! By the time I was in the chair my ears hurt so bad I never even noticed the drill.
I was born on 1967 when this song came out. Do have that haunting and beautiful feeling now as it was then yes I'm 54 but you know. Who is still here, Hats off.
What Paul is playing is an early prototype of the clavinet, a portable electric harpsichord. Stevie Wonder would use it for many of his hits years later.
For some reason, this film recording of a live performance has so much more charm than the better quality studio recording. I've always loved 60's movies, and that's because of this distinctive sound and feel.
I remember when this song came out my father just bought a brand new Chevy Impala burgundy with a black vinyl top...... that's what this song reminds me of
Blue , blue my world is blue. Blue is my world now I'm without you. When we met how the bright sun shone. Then you left, now the rainbow is gone. Red, red my eyes are red. Crying for you alone in my bed. Glad to have grown up in the 60's and have this music.
I wasn’t born, yet when this music came out but I would feel nostalgic everytime I would listen to it as if wishing I didn’t miss in those golden moments. I’m an old soul even as a child and friends think I’m weird but well,we’re all old now. LOL
❤I was 8 when I listened to this beautiful piece of music, I fell in love with it at once. I have never gotten tired to play it over and over again. It's part of my life and I have all of his albums.
My brother bought this 45 when I was 6 years old. It's STILL an absolute favorite of mine and many others. One of the best records ever made. I used to bring the record to kindergarten and our teacher, Miss Porter, would play it during rest period. LOL>>
“L’amour est bleu” was written by composed André Popp, and whose lyrics were written by Pierre Cour for the Eurovision Song Contest 1967. It was sung by Vicky Leandros for Luxembourg. This is a cover known as “Love is blue” by Paul Mauriat
I can't believe this exists! And it's so beautiful! Not many people try to do covers of this... And I suspect it's because the original is perfect as is!
This song played at around 7:30 am from Avalon radio, Catalina island , CA every day for about a year in 1968-69. It always came on my clock radio, when I had to wake up!!!!
Adriana. Brazil. São Paulo capital. ❤❤❤❤❤
I'm from The Netherlands and 62 years old. This is by far the most beautiful version of Love is blue. Too bad the audio isn't 100% pure because it's an old recording. At 1:43 a slightly different violin session starts. This one is even more beautiful than the studio version (which is also brilliant). Until the day I die I will always think this is one of the most beautiful melodies ever.
Love the slightly different arrangement and the “live” characteristics! Mr. Mauriat has amazing coordination in switching from conducting to playing the keyboard solo
I remember I first heard this excellent melody, at the lobby of a Hotel I went to with my Parents. It was played continously which is good, as it does not bore anyone, as it is very nice to hear, so much so I like to hear it thrice.
This takes me back to my Grandparents back porch with the jalousie windows open and the cool breeze coming in from the ocean. Mid 1970's in Lavallette NJ
Hearing this song right now brings me back to the days when I was listening to WABC radio from NYC. I think I still have the 45 record. Thnx a lot for putting out there.
Love it when others mention listening to Music Radio 77 WABC in the 60’s. My kinda decade, my kinda radio!! Everything from the Partridge Family to Iron Butterfly!
Those who are here... you have a great choice, my friend
Once you've heard this masterpiece you will never forget it...........
Yes so true, I first heard this tune a few years ago and have loved it ever😂 since 🏴🏴
This song gave me peace in 1973...relaxing in a world in texas..it's just beautiful to my soul...
Still does in 2024!
I was born in 1967 when this song came out..
It's as hauntingly beautiful now as it was then ...I'm 54
1968
Fellow '67 baby.

This amazing song brings me back so many chilhood memories in the 70s . Thank you Paul Mauriat!!
This is one of the most hauntingly, beautiful melodies ever written.

Yes it just amazing, it lights up ky soul 🏴🏴
Yeh, I can picture that. Here's to the magic of music.
We were in Norfolk Virginia, waiting for me to go to Vietnam on the Intrepid. 54 years later it still makes me "Blue"
Just came across it again, this year it will be 56 years🥲
Got out of army, 1968
This is such a beautiful song..I was 15 years old in 1968.
I was 8 listening to it on my sisters gramophone. Great tune.
I was 14. I learnt to play it on my spanish guitar. I still play it now on my guitar/lute hybrid. It is always well received.
🤔Me too! 9th grade in Dallas. A kinder gentler era😉
14.
Great time back then. I'd go back in a heartbeat!
I know the feeling, I played Skye Boat at a childhood friend’s funeral on me bagpipes at his funeral. Now when I play or hear that tune. I can’t help thinking of my friend. We were friends from 1st grade until high school.

I can relate to your post! My mom listened to that very station, as we grew up in North Alabama. Miss those days and car rides and of course my Mom💔❤️
