(Jay RoC) I love the dark horse hardcovers that's a big reason why I decided to start collecting manga this year so I guess u can say I'm a manga newbie. Been checking out a few manga hauls just to see what series grab my attention. Great video just subbed 💪
Thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! The Dark Horse editions are great, and they've released really great series so you can't go wrong starting there.
Your cat coming over when you were talking about A Man and His Cat was so on point lol I appreciate you giving summaries for even the older series like Hellsing and Inuyasha. Not only do you make them sound super appealing, but it's nice to not just assume that because they're older series, everyone knows what they're about. I appreciate that, 'cause to be honest, though I've heard of Hellsing, I hadn't the slightest idea what the plot was... Anyway, what a great haul! You got so many deluxe/hardcover/big editions that look absolutely beautiful :) I liked hearing your thoughts on Demon Slayer - I've only watched the anime, and I've been debating whether or not to pick up the manga for a while because I feel in this case, the anime may trump the manga. I totally agree that the storytelling/worldbuilding isn't the greatest, and I've heard that is even more evident in the manga, but Tanjiro's has become one of my favorite characters ever (he's so kind-hearted and pure!~) so I'll probably pick it up someday just for him ^^ Those Hellsing deluxe editions look beastly as well. I haven't picked up any edtions that big, but I do have the hardcovers for Vinland Saga and Fullmetal Alchemist, which even though they're a bit smaller, are also sometimes hard to hold for long periods of time. At the same time, especially in the case of FMA, I feel the quality is worth the extra weight. Hopefully, that's the same case for Hellsing as well :) Nice to see Demon Prince of Momochi House and Yona! I got vol.1 and 2 of Demon Prince of Momochi House and ('cause it finally got reprinted) vol.1 of Yona of the Dawn this past month, and I'm really enjoying them both! I love Yona's tight storytelling so far, and Aoi is just precious. I've also picked up all that's out of Snow White with the Red Hair, which has a nice, if simplistic, plot. It's like Yona, but where nothing really serious happens to the characters, which isn't necessarily a bad thing - it's a nice, chill series to sit down with, and I adore the characters. I've ordered some more volumes of The Witch and the Beast as well, a series that's been a little up and down for me - loved vol.1, wasn't really feeling vol.2, and then vol.3 picked right back up and I'm into it again, so it'll be interesting to know where my feelings end up on that one. (I'm still slowly making my way through Flowers of Evil - I feel like I need to be in the right kind of mood to read that one :) At any rate, it's nice to have some manga stocked up to keep us sane as things, unfortunately, go a little off the rocker again, eh? Happy holidays/new year, and cheers to more manga collecting in 2022!~ ^^
Happy New Year! Thanks so much for your thoughts and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I definitely agree that with some hardcover releases, despite being heavy the quality is really high - that's a good point, and the Hellsing editions are really high quality and such a joy. So jealous you got a Yona Vol 1!! The series is still really understocked here at the moment, but fingers crossed it'll only be another month or so until the reprints arrive. I also really need to check out Snow White with the Red Hair - I watched a couple episodes of the anime and it was definitely nice and chill, so I'm curious to see what the manga is like. It's also interesting to hear how you're going with the Witch and the Beast - I still have Vol 1 sitting on my shelf and I haven't gotten to it yet. I love Tanjiro as well - he's just so sweet and pure hearted how could you not love him 💞
Happy new year! I really appreciate the brief summaries along with your thoughts while going through your haul. Makes me think of what I want to pick up too XD Hellsing is such nostalgia. I never fully watched the anime but I do remember the intensity. Gorgeous art. Those volumes, while large, is stunning and being able to see manga art that large in high quality is a treat! I picked up Blue Flag vol 1 (so sad the rest are out of stock everywhere bc I’m so eager to continue reading it!), A School Frozen in Time (interesting read so far!), 5cm per second, Orange vol 1, I Want to Eat Your Pancreas (heart wrenching, highly recommend), and I finally got the Spy Family vols I was missing. Also waiting for my Daytime Shooting Star series to come in and Grand Blue Dreaming (which I hear is incredibly hilarious. Can’t wait!)
Happy New Year! And I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I totally agree about the deluxe editions - the larger scale really elevates the experience of the art. You also sound like you got a great haul of stuff! I've been looking out for A School Frozen in Time since you recommended it because it sound so interesting - hopefully Vol 1 restocks near me soon. I'm also really holding out for I Want to Eat Your Pancreas to restock, and I've been contemplating getting into Spy Family before the anime releases.
@@ninkysshelf7264 There's something about holding a book rather than reading manga online that makes experiencing the story more immersive. I think because of you and other manga readers/collectors, I'm considering getting into the dark, psychological genre. I've never been too into it but want to try something new. And I also see so many reading Monster that I've become curious haha.
@@appassionatoLA I totally agree!! Monster is great - I think it's an easy way to dip your toe into that genre, because the premise is probably something you're familiar with other types of books, movies, etc. And the storytelling is really masterclass. Otherwise, I'm a big fan of Shuzo Oshimi - whether that's Flowers of Evil or Blood on the Tracks, I think they'd both be great dark, psychological reads to pick up.
@@ninkysshelf7264 I do enjoy true crime and mysteries so it may be an easier transition than I thought. Will definitely be keeping up to date with your videos and recs! :) When you mentioned Blood on the Tracks, it did peak my interest. Thanks so much!
I love the Demon Slayer boxset. I was lucky to get mine before the prices went nuts... Also I have The Blade Of The immortal hardcovers. I enjoy reading them. Tho sometimes it is a little difficult to read. More at the beginning and the ends when one side gets lighter. (if that makes sense... im struggling finding the words to use haha) Also I personally love Chobits! It was the series I branched out with from your DragonBall and Sailor Moon stuff lol
That totally makes sense! I'm really enjoying the scale of the art - who knows, I might have to pivot and switch over to the deluxe editions for Blade of the Immortal haha Good to know re Chobits!! I've heard so many conflicting things so I'm keen to get stuck into it
@@ninkysshelf7264 I’d say to do it! The bindings stand up so well. I seen your last couple manga haul vids and you make me wanna start a channel and do a collection video and hauls lol Are you going to do a collection video to start off the year?

ahh the demon slayer box set looks so nice!

Interesting! I've never heard of an all colour one. It may be a different edition that has some colour panels at the beginning of the volume?
