  • Wow! What a weekend! Higher Ground Hundo in Johnstown, PA was an awesome event. Two night of camping, beers, food, new friends and the hardest 72 miles I've ever done. 8300 feet of elevation! It was a mix of gravel, dirt and roads - all up and down. Challenging and fun bike event.
    I will definitely be back! #gravelbikes #gravelride

    Calvin on the single speed! He's an animal. We rode the 50 (56.5) miler and it was the toughest thing I've done. Good times.

      Yeah - and he still out climbed me! I heard there was a super tough climb on the 50. These ride’s definitely weren’t about the mileage but the feet up!

    I concur everything you've said. I've ridden further, and higher, but this was the hardest ride I've done without bonking. Got started an hour late due to mechanical and GPS issue. Absolutely loved it. That long 5 mile gravel climb was just mean. Calvin was Emmet's friend on the single speed Crust Lightning Bolt. Off to Nutmeg next, see ya there!

    • @TimFitzwater

      Calvin - yes - thanks! I was repeating so many names in my head really trying my best to remember - specially the people I know I'll see next week.
      I've gone longer many times but never that much elevation - but I can imagine a ride with more elevation that isn't this hard. See you next week! I'm excited for it!

    Amazing ride you did there Tim. I've never biked at Johnstown however about 25 years ago I did travel there by Amtrack when there was a stop behind Quaker Square. left very early in the morning back after midnight. Visted the Johnstown Flòod Museum.

    Sounds like fun, but maybe something shorter. Are you using an extension on your head tube? I need something to save my back and this was one solution or buy a new-er bike - which isn't awful either. But does it work for you or is raising the stem angle better?

    • @TimFitzwater
      @TimFitzwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      I never cut my steerer down too short on this bike. I also just flipped my stem to raise the bars a bit too.
      Nothing wrong with the e-bike if you think that is the best route for you. Also look into something like the Velo Orange Happy Stem - a fairly elegant way to bump your bars up and closer. I have two for other bikes that were a bit too stretched. (Something like sweep bars are also an option a lot of people had at this ride - may require you to change your controls though.)

  • @Wartie08
    @Wartie08 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tim that is quite an accomplishment. How does your back feel? Mine does not like long climbs like that.

    • @TimFitzwater
      @TimFitzwater  ปีที่แล้ว

    i don't understand the desire to replenish with beer after such a depletion. i'd go for a bananas and ovaltine milkshake and a burrito.
    i would also require bong breaks on such a beautiful ride, i'm not gonna lie. alcohol is just so entrenched in our society. wrong poison!
    looks fun as heckfire though.
