After training with a karambit, it has been frustrating to find a safe concealable style. This design is so incredible and addresses so many of my self-defense needs. I have an injury to my left index knuckle and having the protection of the grip ring gives me so much confidence in a self defense situation. This is a must buy for me especially given how much piece of mind it will provide. Thank you Joe Caswell and CRKT for bringing what I always hoped for to reality.

  • @blkft
    @blkft 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's a excellent knife, I have one that I EDC. Easy to deploy and retract one handed. To retract I flip it up in my palm (ring finger as support) with index still in the ring, use my thumb to work the lock, then use the same thumb to snap it back or flick just my wrist to do the same.
Deployment is damned near perfect. Pinch with my thumb and index finger from pocket (right handed). Index finger falls naturally into the ring as the whole knife rest in my palm. Them basically "Bick Lighter" it open with my thumb.
In my hand there's enough room to grip it as a undeployed defensive skull knocker if needed.

Only downside would be sharpening it i find it difficult to sharp inward curved blades. 8.8/10

I'm late to this discussion, I bought the zap which I will be giving to my son and the D2 serrated I have on order for myself. I've been carrying the zap in my pocket snuggled up nestled at the back and find it rides very nicely there and pulling it out and engaging it with my pocket I found very easy and I felt no risk at all in deploying it how it was designed. As a rule of thumb I never carry much else in the same pocket as my EDC if I don't have to. I actually forget I have this knife in my pocket and find it carries nicer than my cold steel ti-light 4" getting in and out of my work truck or just walking around, so far I haven't had it open in my pocket and I feel confident in giving the zap to my son. I know the D2 serrated will be my new EDC, I drive for a living and if I ever need to cu myself free of a seatbelt I love that the point would be angled away from the body as it would cut through the seatbelt reducing the risk of an accidental puncture or laceration in an emergency response scenario. For self defense options the most effective knife is one not seen coming and this fits the bill, it is relatively discreet until needed and the best part is it gives options for a non lethal response, that knuckle ring and the nose when folded both are hard impact surfaces that could be effective also. If you read this great video.

Fox Karambit 478 Aluminum folder is my karambit of choice. The Emerson Wave feature really is awesome (with practice for every type of pocket you will store it in) and the ring is not this massive hunk of wtf. It is a bit pricey (cheaper than this thing) and takes a while to get into the States from Italy... but way more worth the money. For the same price as this thing, you could get yourself a set that comes with a trainer and the actual knife. As a bonus, if you know open hand techniques or short stick / kubaton.. the trainer also works as a pretty good non-lethal defense tool also.

One thing I do like that I've recently found about karambit style knives is that they actually are quite good for handyman kinda tasks such as cutting or peeling a cable. Cutting rope actually is made easier too because of the shape that makes instead of just pulling so you can run it through and it cuts given the curve it follows. The downside to this thing is that it's way too overpriced right now at least for my current budget so that's a big no for me.

This seems to be an ingenious design. I might consider getting one if it didn’t cost $150.
But I also do not like chisel ground blades, hawksbill blades, or knives that don’t fully enclose the blade edge inside the handle when closed.
I would buy one of these if they could somehow make it into a spearpoint v-ground blade, and have the closed blade covered by both sides of the handle.

Just watched you on BladeHQ. I voted for the Benchmade 940-1 for your next knife. I really like this knife but can't see the price. Maybe if it goes on sale I'll grab it.

These new trendy blades look cool, but the classical fixed blades never go out of style (and they seem safer to handle).

Talon, if you don't have it already, get the Kizer Begleiter (Tanto). I think you will love it.

I carry a couple of fox folding karambits in rotation they’re all kind of bulky to carry in pocket but they’re very handy blades

The little pocket above the main pocket aint a "coin" pocket but it was for a pocket watch

I have a nice 8" scar on my outside calf from this thing 😂 first day I got it and carried it too lol. Was I'm my pocket and I was taking my cargo shorts off and it came open as I dropped my shorts to the ground and sliced down my leg

New knife suggestion - Blade HQ fan - only one for show my friend - Boker Rainbow Mermaid Magnum - sometimes you've got to break from the mold, besides if you've got to throw one down this is the one to do throw !! :-)

I saw this at a local sporting goods store for $80, I wasn't a big fan, the pocket clip was actually my fav part.

Cool gimmick and a clever design.
Wouldn't mind getting one, but that price tag is an issue.

Very cool construction! I could only afford the Chinese copy, so it's probably much worse quality, but still fun to use and fidget with.... And 4.5x cheaper than the cheapest original
