      To be honest though, watching Jahn's reviews just aren't as fun anymore. It just feels like, as the years go by, he's falling into the trap that so many critics do: where it seems nowadays he can't just enjoy a movie, and more or less hates watching movies now. He's hyper critical of everything. At least someone like Stuckmann has retained his sense of wonder when going to the movies. I guess this is what happens when something you once loved becomes your day job.

    • @everythingisawesome2903
      @everythingisawesome2903 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@LuxBellator92 Stuckman has refused to review bad movies cause he is afraid if his movie turns out to be bad, Hollywood will give him some grace. He even refused to do constructive criticism and after coming out of the theatre, if Jeremy founds the movie bad, he won't hesitate in giving it a bad rating so I will trust Jeremy over Stuckmann all day, everyday.

    I was expecting this movie to get bad reviews, and it seems a good portion of them are bad. But I expected it because it's by Jeff Wadlow. His films tend to get slammed by lots of people. But for some reason, I've enjoyed pretty much every movie I've seen from him (Fantasy Island, Truth or Dare, Cry_Wolf, Kick Ass 2). So I was looking forward to this regardless, and I still am! The acting is alright, but the plot just is too simple. Not scary at all, plot moves way too fast. Literally in the ending the girl didn't wanna go home then quite literally 10 seconds later gets convinced to go home because he mom said "come on honey it's fun" and the daughter just instantly switched sides. The cliff hanger at the end was very predictable. The movie is overall so bad.

That's why it's easy if the movie is $5 million and you make $40 million in a single weekend it's a win. They made $30 million in profit in 1 week. Where Marvel movies need to make at least $600 million to just break even.

    I physically recoil at Jeff Wadlow's name because _Fantasy Island_ was one of the last things I saw in the cinemas before the pandemic hit the UK. It was around the time that rumblings of lockdowns and businesses temporarily closing began, and I remember saying to my partner, "NO! I _REFUSE_ to let this be the last thing I see [in cinemas] this year!". So... yeah. There's that association.
    Also, I keep thinking that he directed a _Saw_ film. And not one of the good ones, either. Yes, there are some.

    Maybe I’ve gone insane but I weirdly liked this movie, this was one that I was keeping an eye on because while I thought the idea looked kinda cheesy there was also a part of me that had a strange curiosity about it, and I oddly found myself enjoying it
    I think the biggest plus of the movie is by far the little girl, she’s absolutely terrific here, she is so cute and her relationship with her family as well as her imaginary friend early on is so good, and when it starts to turn on its head and becomes more violent she totally sells those scenes too, I also liked seeing Betty Buckley again, I’ve always liked her from her movies with M Night Shaymalan and so it was cool to have her in here
    And while early on I was enjoying the movie from more of a guilty pleasure kind of standpoint weirdly enough once it got to the point with the girl trying to hurt herself it actually became legitimately investing and I stopped laughing at the movie and just started enjoying it normally, I also thought the evil version of the bear was cool and the last act had some really cool visuals
    I’d say my biggest complaints are for one the older daughter, she was so unlikeable, throughout the movie she was such an asshole to her stepmom for like no reason, I get that she’s upset about not being with her real mom anymore but at the same time it’s like what did your stepmom do to deserve this kind of apathy from you? The other is the ending, because at a point it literally looks like the movie is about to end but then out of nowhere something happens that leads into *ANOTHER* climax, I was like “Wait, what the hell? Where did this come from?” You know what it felt like? You know how some movies have alternate endings that they release on Blu Ray after they come out? This felt like they took the original ending and the alternate ending and created this fake out scene to bridge the 2 of them together, it was so weird and it felt like it didn’t fit together at all
    Look, maybe I’ve gone insane but I strangely found myself invested in this movie, I acknowledge it wasn’t the greatest and early on it definitely felt more like a guilty pleasure kind of experience but as it went on it kinda started working for me, the acting is very good, it had some decent scares and ultimately I ended up having a good time with it. 7/10

    • @KoongYe
      @KoongYe 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@echoecho57 Ah, the old and debunked "if you don't like it don't watch it" argument. He is a movie critic. He is officially labeled and certified as such in various places such as Rotten Tomato. He is refusing to critic movies he thinks he will have to "bash" on, which counts as a dereliction of duty. All this is because he is now in the movie circle and has to cater to his friends in Hollywood. All the critics who also worked in movie business didn't hesitate to call out films that deserved harsh criticism. Also, criticizing a movie isn't "bashing" as Chris puts it, by which he is putting other critics under the bus. I am not watching his videos anymore, but he does have an obligation as a critic to provide his audiences with genuine criticism of movies. That's why he gained his followings and its how he got into the movie business in the first place.
      If he wants to go the route of a movie director who never criticize movies fairly for what it is, he needs to put down his title as movie critic.

    I'm definitely in the minority here... but I actually kinda liked Imaginary 😬 More specifically the second half, because that's where, in my opinion, it gets really creative and looks like they tried to make something good, both in the set design and some of the cinematography. The first half, however, is as generic as it gets filled with jumpscares and dream sequences. I mean the second half still has those things, but at least it goes in an interesting direction.

    I remember watching this and thinking that the original twist was going to be that SHE was imaginary because she was originally a normal girl, but then she became an imaginary friend and the bear wanted her back.
    It's just a vibe I got, like when her father was in the hospital and didn't recognise her, then when she says she's his daughter he says "No, you disappeared," and there's a part where the husband says "You appeared in our lives right when we needed you the most, like an imaginary friend," plus the memory loss.

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:00 🎬 *Review of the movie "Imaginary" and its premise*
    - "Imaginary" is a horror movie set in a new house where the youngest girl in the family encounters an evil imaginary friend.
    - The film is described as a compilation of elements borrowed from various horror movies, earning it the label of "Dollar Store" horror.
    - Despite the anticipation for cheesy enjoyment, the movie falls short in delivering engaging content due to its boring narrative and inconsistent character interactions.
    03:37 📽️ *Critique on dialogue and character inconsistency*
    - The dialogue in "Imaginary" is criticized for its lack of authenticity, making characters feel unrealistic and scripted.
    - Inconsistencies in character behaviors and interactions, particularly regarding continuity, detract from the immersion and believability of the story.
    - Instances of character actions and reactions, such as the older daughter's behavior towards her stepmom, are highlighted as unrealistic and poorly developed.
    05:00 🤔 *Analysis of the film's progression and redeeming qualities*
    - Despite the overall disappointment, the last act of the movie stands out as the most engaging part, offering potential for a sequel.
    - The possibility of future installments improving upon the initial concept, akin to successful horror movie franchises like Annabelle and Ouija, is contemplated.
    - While the last act provides moments of enjoyment, the film's preceding sections are deemed tedious and uninteresting, resulting in a lackluster viewing experience.
