I think the Princess of Wales herself recognizes this as she has never worn it even though it matches her engagement ring which belonged to Diana.

Many "ladies" of the time knew not to wear jewellery that outshone the Queen's. However It was also an accepted way for ladies, with their husband's pushing them, to come to the notice of the Queen and become part of the Royal circle where their husbands could have some influence, do business or affect policies. It was partly for that reason that gifts to the Royals have to be registered just as any public servant has to report gifts above a certain value. Especially in the case of jewellery which is then catalogued into the Royal Jewels Collection, as with artifacts or art that become part of the royal collection and are generally on loan to museums. What we should not be doing is judging our ancestors behaviours by today's standards lest our descendents judge us.

Pierced earrings can easily be turned into clips just by a small adapter! I have used them myself as I do not have pierced ears either, but love to wear earrings! So Camilla may be wearing the sapphire earrings!

Kate only wears the drop charms which she put on a plain lever back earrings. I could see Charlotte wearing the studs with elongated pearl drop charms on them with the choker necklace. Diana often wore the studs alone for daywear and added the drop charms for more formal events. I think Kate likes the lever back style better because of her long hair. Studs would not show up as well. They are better for short hair.

It is a fashion cycle that repeats through the generations. She seems keenly aware of both the fashion and feelings of the public. Many of the other world monarchies are cutting back on showy panoply for economic reasons, as well. The optics are bad for a country going through hard economic times to put on such show. One of the many things I loved about Queen Elizabeth II was her sensitivity to public views of the monarchy. She had a very frugal personal life (well, except for her horses) and preferred simple foods. After two world wars and the privations of the post-WW2 economy, she opted for the "less is more" sensibility during the 50s and 60s. I think you will see Catherine doing the same. After all, the taxpayers in Britain foot the bills for a lot of it.

I wish people/youtubers and podcasters would stop saying Diana owned these jewels. She did not own them, for all that they given to Diana on her marriage they were not her personal property. All jewellery gifted to Royal brides becomes part of the Crown Jewel Collection. When Charles and Diana seperated/divorced the jewellery was returned to the Queen and put into the Collection. Even the Spencer Tiara Diana liked to wear did not belong to her but to her brother. Diana's personal jewellery collection was more modest than the jewellery she wore while Princess of Wales. King Charles inherited the jewellery to be loaned to, and worn by trusted, working family members but held in Trust for the next Monarch. Only the late Queen's personal jewellery would have been bequeathed to, or inherited by close members of the family.

That is why she went by the title Duchess of Cornwall rather than as Princess of Wales as she was entitled to. Why do you continue to hold to this persistent ill will or resentment towards Camilla? Harry would never "tarnish" his mother's legacy or her memory by selling them. He did take some of the diamonds to design HRH Meghan's engagement ring, which was his right to do. I know many think that Meghan and Harry "stole" jewelry from the Crown, which is ludicrous. All Crown jewelry is carefully monitored and is mainly stored together. Things on permanent life-loan revert back to the Crown. To my knowledge, except for the tiara that Meghan wore at her wedding, she rarely, if ever, wore any Crown jewelry as a working Royal. Her personal style is less formal than British Royal fashion, and she prefers more understated jewelry. Americans do not normally wear brooches at all, anymore. Their jewelry focus is more on rings and earrings. I really wish that people would stop demonizing Harry and Meghan. Meghan didn't marry Harry for money (she was very comfortably well-off as an actress) when she met him. And Harry is not an evil man. He is simply different from William. I, myself, am the younger of two sisters. Comparisons between siblings can be very corrosive for both. William already was an heir to the throne and faced greater responsibilities from a young age than Harry. Both were under the microscope of media and public attention from their births. Being the younger sibling is easier in some ways than being the eldest, but there is often a very difficult issue of always being compared to the eldest! This I know from personal experience.

I am NOT sure whether or not the set itself was a personal gift or an official gift. Diana's engagement ring and other pieces such as her aquamarine ring and Rolex watch were inherited by her two sons. Originally, I believe William selected her watch, and Harry selected the sapphire ring. However, they traded when William wanted to give the ring to Catherine. Harry gave the aquamarine ring to Meghan, and she wore it to their wedding reception.

Those earrings can still be expertly modified! Remember, you have to be able to carry these jewels. Not every woman can pull them off with the justice you either have or don't have and they demand. Brooch’s are very old fashioned. My grandmother who was a woman living through the Great Depression and her husband died in 1932 and she had to find a job to feed her 2 children she always wore a brooch on her left shoulder of a dress or coat. I think they were more popular a long time ago. That brooch looks like a bug, I wouldn’t like it either and I’m 78 years old and I don’t like pins and have never wore one except in the 60’s it was fashionable to wear a gold tone circle pin with a single Pearl on it.

@nanabutner HRH Henry (Harry) and HRH William inherited HRH Diana's personal jewelry. This included the sapphire engagement ring, Rolex watch, several pairs of earrings, and the aquamarine ring. Harry would never "tarnish" his mother's legacy or her memory by selling them. He did take some of the diamonds to design HRH Meghan's engagement ring, which was his right to do.
I know many think that Meghan and Harry "stole" jewelry from the Crown, which is ludicrous. All Crown jewelry is carefully monitored and is mainly stored together. Things on permanent life-loan revert back to the Crown. To my knowledge, except for the tiara that Meghan wore at her wedding, she rarely, if ever, wore any Crown jewelry as a working Royal. Her personal style is less formal than British Royal fashion, and she prefers more understated jewelry. Americans do not normally wear brooches at all, anymore. Their jewelry focus is more on rings and earrings.
I really wish that people would stop demonizing Harry and Meghan. Meghan didn't marry Harry for money (she was very comfortably well-off as an actress) when she met him. And Harry is not an evil man. He is simply different from William. I, myself, am the younger of two sisters. Comparisons between siblings can be very corrosive for both. William already was an heir to the throne and faced greater responsibilities from a young age than Harry. Both were under the microscope of media and public attention from their births. Being the younger sibling is easier in some ways than being the eldest, but there is often a very difficult issue of always being compared to the eldest! This I know from personal experience.

She loved both her sons intensely, but I think Harry takes after her in temperament more than William. She was very much a free spirit who felt trapped in the pomp and protocol of Royal life, as Harry felt long before he married Meghan. (Calling her names is rather childish, don't you think?)
Harry gave Meghan some of Diana's jewelry because he loves her, and he wanted to include his mother in his marriage. I don't think that cheapens Diana's jewelry. Meghan's taste is far different than the British taste in jewelry. She rarely wears flashy things; most of her taste being more modern and less fussy. She was already worth quite a bit of money, as her stint in the TV series "Suits" was quite well-paid, and she still gets residuals from its syndication. She also made money from her style website and several movies. She doesn't "cheapen" anything. Camilla does. Why don't you pick on her, instead?

Diana's boys split the jewelry equally. Prince William got first choice and obviously chose the engagement ring. Harry got 2nd choice and chose the pearl and sapphire choker. So the necklace is with Meghan.

I am NOT sure whether or not the set itself was a personal gift or an official gift. Diana's engagement ring and other pieces such as her aquamarine ring and Rolex watch were inherited by her two sons. Originally, I believe William selected her watch, and Harry selected the sapphire ring. However, they traded when William wanted to give the ring to Catherine. Harry gave the aquamarine ring to Meghan, and she wore it to their wedding reception.

It is not expected to be returned, but both Princess Diana and Fergie upon their divorces agreed to return certain Roysl Jewelry thst was on loan to them. Fergie didn't have much....her wedding Tiara was a gift made for her ( Now the York Tiara) and it remains in the branch of the family. Just using that as an example. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother inherited a lot of jewelry from Queen Mary. Many of these piecesgiven to Princess Margaret & Princess Elizabeth. Queen Mary also gave a lot of jewelry to her other children. Which is why you see some of the pieces come up at auction. All of Diana's personal jewelry is split between William and Harry. The likelihood of seeing Kate or Meghan wear other pieces 50/50. William & Kate have completely shifted their Royal roles. Kate is less likely to attend major events until her kids are older. Those earrings can still be expertly modified! Remember, you have to be able to carry these jewels. Not every woman can pull them off with the justice you either have or don't have and they demand. Nothing personal but Meghan could never pull these off with the carriage that goes with them!

Brooch’s are very old fashioned. My grandmother who was a woman living through the Great Depression and her husband died in 1932 and she had to find a job to feed her 2 children she always wore a brooch on her left shoulder of a dress or coat. I think they were more popular a long time ago. That brooch looks like a bug, I wouldn’t like it either and I’m 78 years old and I don’t like pins and have never wore one except in the 60’s it was fashionable to wear a gold tone circle pin with a single Pearl on it.
