Its such a shame Jacob dies in Mass Effect 2. I would have loved to see what they would do with him in Mass Effect 3, especially his romance with Femshep. He is such a loyal dude, I am sure he would stand by Femshep to the very end through thick and thin.

i feel like that's one of the overarching themes of the series - that the cycle needs to be broken so that people can grow meaningfully. Everyone's been paying for the Leviathans' mistakes every 50,000 years, and in that cycle, other cycles of abuse are perpetrated, such as with the Geth and Quarians

Shortly afterwards was the s*icide mission and considering the tension between the two, it felt appropriate to oblige his request and let him be the tech expert. He was not missed.
when I played and tried to lure Saren to the Light Side, on the citadel, I felt a little sorry for him, at the end he said "Goodbye Shepard, thank you" I feel sorry for him as well as the Legion
Typical Mass Effect fan who doesn't do his homework! Saren was NEVER a sympathetic or well-intentioned character! He was a villain through and through, especially if you read the tie in books. Hell, he was a better being indoctrinated than he was free; and even then, that's not saying much!
Yes to a part 2 You forgot Rana Thanoptis. The Asari scientist who helps Saren on Virmire, you let her live, and you'll meet her when finding Okeer. In ME3, after the Cerberus attack on the Citadel, there will be a bulletin about her being indoctrinated and killing some Asari Generals on Thessia.

The cost should be even greater than what is portrayed in ME3, especially given some of the stupid hand-wavy shit they did in the so-called extended cut. That Normandy rescue is an embarrassing scene and a total misread of what fans were looking for out of the OG ending. Imagine, if you will, a final act on Earth that took a few hours, instead of like one. A grueling battle of attrition, wrestling block after block from the Reapers' control, just to get to that beam. And imagine having to make MULTIPLE choices like you had to make on Virmire. Imagine all your loyalty missions came into play again here, as the attack on Earth is the ULTIMATE Suicide Mission. Some of your crew dies because they're not loyal (like Cortez does). And some just die to give you a chance to progress through the hell that is Reaper London. THAT would feel earned. THAT would hit you in the gut. Though the battle for the Thannix Missiles is pretty intense, especially on high difficulty, it just seems like a breeze compared to the Suicide Mission in ME2, where you and much of your squad can die because of your choices, not just your combat prowess.
Nihlus can't be saved and also Dr. Saleon Heart, unless you left Heart off due to the fact that technically you can just not do his mission, there's also Nassana who you help kill her sister in the first game unknowingly only to watch her get gunned down by Thane in his recruitment mission. Also there's also Rana Thanoptis, the asari you meet on virmire. You either kill her in the first game for working for Saren, or after meeting her again in the 2nd game will then sabotage one of the groups in the third game that are apart of your military score by attacking them and then killing herself Also I forgot about Emily Wong, who dies in between the 2nd and 3rd game, unfortunately her death is never really brought up during the third game
There's also, of course, whoever you choose to not be the Virmire Survivor, and even if you convince Jack not to assassinate Aresh, it seems unlikely he'd outrun an explosion that size on foot. Maybe he escaped on a shuttle of his own we don't see. Then there's Wreav, technically he can only survive if Wrex dies or isn't recruited in ME1, so sort of like Kaiden/Ashley, it's an either/or. The last one I can think of that has a speaking role is Lilith, who gets turned into goo by the collectors no matter how quickly you head through the Omega 4 Relay.

They're also listed on the memorial wall. Most of them didn't have speaking roles though. Gianna Parasini's fate is indetermined AFAIK. I can't remember the sources, but I seem to remember some mention of her still being on Illium when the Reapers hit there.
Thane is the one that gets me. When I played the first game I didn’t realize I could romance anyone, but going into the second I’d learned you could, and I picked the most exotic looking alien to bump uglies with. He was the first character I ever romanced. There’ll always be a little place in my heart for him.

Jenkins physical form did die, but his soul ascended to a higher plane of existence. He assisted Shepard in his/her many feats across the trilogy and helped end the Reaper war.

Once I upgraded to MAXIMUM every ability of Jenkins before the first mission when I had 3rd or 4th playthrough! But… it didn’t work… I wish we could know this guy better. I think he could be one of the best squad mates in trilogy.
This just makes me realize how many characters die in the ME Trilogy many whom are gut wrenching because the story-telling makes you like them so darn much.
I honestly think Jenkins is such a missed opportunity. He could of been a character that starts off as a green recruit itching for some action to a jaded, stoic veteran. Think that would of been cool.

There does seem to be a mod for Thane surviving, I haven't used it, but it seems to be a thing I always put Anderson on the council, bad enough he steps down for Udina to be his successor, sometimes I'll deal with Udina and sometimes I'll have Ashley (or on rare occasions Kaiden) deal with him I like putting Tali'Zorah in the tube and having Jack do the biotic bubble at the collector base because they actually talk about it later Alec Ryder can't be saved in Mass Effect Andromeda, he'll sacrifice himself for Sara or Scott There's good email mods for the first game where Pressly gets even more fleshed out, also getting Chicken Pox when Shepard is at Peak Fifteen with Liara and Wrex (that cleared up quickly lol 😝)

Legion seems like a character we needed to have from the beginning in ME2. Also, Javik being the catalyst seems like a more interesting plot point and more worthy of inclusion than making extra $$

You can actually save Ian Nestead, the guy in the Tunnels on Feros, if you rush in the way of the projectile right after the conversation ended. But it does no big difference since he will only say that the mother is calling him or so. You cannot get into a conversation with him and he will never be mentioned again. So it doesn´t really matter anyway :D
he does get mentioned again - because if we don't let him get shot by the Geth, then Shep can afterwards talk to Fai Dan about the crazy guy in the tunnels and can ask if there's anything we can do to help the poor fella. this whole entry in the list was just false altogether if i remember correctly. heck, i'm not even sure if a not shot by the Geth Ian might even be amongst the battered survivors you can vist all over the port after the mission concluded, never really payed attention to that.
I really did not like Jacob and in ME3, avoided him. Actually, once he was made loyal, I avoided him. He acts like a jerk. When he informed Shepard that his baby momma wanted to use the name Shepard for the kid, he essentially insults Shepard. An entire sapient species has taken that name to mean 'HERO", and it wasn't enough to name your kid after that person? After he saves you and your progeny maker? If I could I'd delete that character. Sometimes I just let him die by not performing his loyalty mission.

With Anderson before any patches depending on how you answered the illusive man you could have got him to commit suicide before forcing you to shoot Anderson , it then cut to the talk but Anderson who suddenly collapsed but I’m sure you got a few phrases more in his speech, it felt like a slightly different cut
I did try to save Jenkins back when the game first released. I thought if I as a new game plus Shepard were super high leveled it would be possible. It was not. "I don't need luck. I have ammo." Rip to the Goat Jenkins
Man, it's such a shame Jacob is the only squad member coded to die. We can only imagine what BioWare could have done with him in ME3. Such wasted potential.
Someone once asked me what a good story for a Mass Effect RP would be for a party of people who had never played Mass Effect. I told him to do an adventure set before 1 where they worked for the alliance and have Jenkins as a likeable NPC they interacted with. Hook them with Jenkins and tell the players that character is actually in the game. I like to imagine the players faces when they played the first game
Its funny that both Jacob and Miranda gives you bad advise during the suicide mission. Now about Virmine it was originally intended to have an option were they both survive, but they needed to make sure at least someone dies there. What i would have done is to add an option to sacrifice Wrex instead, it would be another option to try, specially for a run were you try to save Mordin on ME3.

I honestly think Jenkins is such a missed opportunity. He could of been a character that starts off as a green recruit itching for some action to a jaded, stoic veteran. Think that would of been cool.

Yeah, it's a real shame that fan-favourite character Jacob always bites the dust, a real emotional moment that sadly can't be prevented...
But...what about Nihlus? Saren puts a hole in the man's head part way through the Eden Prime mission in ME1. I would have liked to see what he could have been like if there was a way to save him.
Shepard has no real involvement with Nihlus’ fate unlike everyone else
there are so much more characters you can't save like that doctor in Leviathan DLC Garret Bryson, Shepard clone in Citadel DLC, Amanda Kenson from Arrival DLC and so on
The Eclipse Merc killing Niket was dumb from a business decision. She just assumed that she's not going to get a bad review because Miranda's father got Oriana back. What if he was fond of Niket?

I always put Anderson on the council, bad enough he steps down for Udina to be his successor, sometimes I'll deal with Udina and sometimes I'll have Ashley (or on rare occasions Kaiden) deal with him
I like putting Tali'Zorah in the tube and having Jack do the biotic bubble at the collector base because they actually talk about it later
Alec Ryder can't be saved in Mass Effect Andromeda, he'll sacrifice himself for Sara or Scott
There's good email mods for the first game where Pressly gets even more fleshed out, also getting Chicken Pox when Shepard is at Peak Fifteen with Liara and Wrex (that cleared up quickly lol 😝)

Hey Big Dan, if you don’t recruit Wrex and Garrus, remain really standoffish with Liara/Tali and side with Udina and have a human council, are Presley’s notes for the Normandy Crash site different, or is it the same?
You’re going to have recruit either Garrus or Wrex. You can’t not chose one I believe
Tali, Liara are going to join either way and if I'm not mistaken one of Garrus or Wrex is a must too, so i don't think that would change
@@sultanossi8845 I believe you can turn Garrus away, but Wrex is mandatory to continue the Fist storyline to get Tali and her data to bring to the Council
@@emackenzie One of them is a must, and u can continue Fist's story without Wrex, it has three ways either u recruit Wrex who then kills him, or not recruit Wrex but then u have the choice to either spare or kill Fist, but the story doesnt progress till u atleast have Kaiden, Ashley, Tali(mandatory) and either Garrus or Wrex(or both) then Liara is obviously Mandatory

Legion seems like a character we needed to have from the beginning in ME2. Also, Javik being the catalyst seems like a more interesting plot point and more worthy of inclusion than making extra $$

That's because he doesn't always die. If you kill wrex on virmire and sabotage the cure then he doesn't die but goes into hiding.

You can actually save Ian Nestead, the guy in the Tunnels on Feros, if you rush in the way of the projectile right after the conversation ended. But it does no big difference since he will only say that the mother is calling him or so. You cannot get into a conversation with him and he will never be mentioned again. So it doesn´t really matter anyway :D
he does get mentioned again - because if we don't let him get shot by the Geth, then Shep can afterwards talk to Fai Dan about the crazy guy in the tunnels and can ask if there's anything we can do to help the poor fella. this whole entry in the list was just false altogether if i remember correctly. heck, i'm not even sure if a not shot by the Geth Ian might even be amongst the battered survivors you can vist all over the port after the mission concluded, never really payed attention to that.

I really did not like Jacob and in ME3, avoided him. Actually, once he was made loyal, I avoided him. He acts like a jerk.
When he informed Shepard that his baby momma wanted to use the name Shepard for the kid, he essentially insults Shepard.
An entire sapient species has taken that name to mean 'HERO", and it wasn't enough to name your kid after that person? After he saves you and your progeny maker? If I could I'd delete that character. Sometimes I just let him die by not performing his loyalty mission.

With Anderson before any patches depending on how you answered the illusive man you could have got him to commit suicide before forcing you to shoot Anderson , it then cut to the talk but Anderson who suddenly collapsed but I’m sure you got a few phrases more in his speech, it felt like a slightly different cut

I did try to save Jenkins back when the game first released. I thought if I as a new game plus Shepard were super high leveled it would be possible. It was not. "I don't need luck. I have ammo." Rip to the Goat Jenkins

Someone once asked me what a good story for a Mass Effect RP would be for a party of people who had never played Mass Effect. I told him to do an adventure set before 1 where they worked for the alliance and have Jenkins as a likeable NPC they interacted with. Hook them with Jenkins and tell the players that character is actually in the game. I like to imagine the players faces when they played the first game
Its funny that both Jacob and Miranda gives you bad advise during the suicide mission.
Now about Virmine it was originally intended to have an option were they both survive, but they needed to make sure at least someone dies there. What i would have done is to add an option to sacrifice Wrex instead, it would be another option to try, specially for a run were you try to save Mordin on ME3.
