Sad story: I was frying Empanadas and I burned my right hand with the oil😖😖 It was horrible, that hurt a lot😩😩 I cried so so much😭😭, but guess what? I kept frying my Empanadas with my left hand 😂😂😂😂😂
Olive Iwegbu I’m Dominican & I know a lot of our popular foods that we have in our island actually originated from Africa. Fun fact: For example, we have something called ‘Mangu’ came from our African ancestry specifically Congo from what I read.. During the slave trade, a lot of the Caribbean food originated from different parts of Africa. Overtime some things have changed but that African influence is definitely there.
Hi Adrienne . Your Mom is right about you having older fans. I have been a huge fan and was so happy to find out you have a youtube channel. I am subscribed and will be watching all the time. I am a 55 year old Boricua Mom of two men lol. Your a sweetheart and your Mom is a Gem. I live in NJ and work in NYC where I was born. You make us proud. God bless.
Boricua in the house 🇵🇷 thank you Adrianne for implementing and showing how beautiful our culture is! I love being a Puertorriqueño and our food is AMAZING! You should do a few more about our amazing food like alcapurrias, pernil/lechón, etc... Thanks for being an amazing role model four our children! FYI I’ve been following you since my daughter drove me crazy when she was young and went thru her Cheetah Girl phase! Gby!
Adrienne you think you can ask mommy to come back and teach us how to make Spanish rice or the papas rellenas too? This video just has my mouth watering like Wendy please and thank you😂😂😂💙💙💙💙
Omg yessss. I cook everyday Puertorican food. Sofrito, adobo. Without that. Doesn't taste the same. Im puertorican too... me encanta.!! Gracias por siempre ser tan humilde.
OKAY ADRIENNE I HOPE YOU SEE THIS BECAUSE I NEED TO PUT YOU AND YOUR MOM ON! So I meal prep some snacks/meals for myself and another person and I'm ALWAYS trying to find healthier versions/lower calorie alternatives of the foods we love. Let me tell you that I make empanadas with those same pre-made discs (I use another brand, I think it's called "La Argetina") that are 100 calories each & a variety of fillings, fold them over & press them closed the same way, and then pop them into my air fryer with NO oil on them at all. I spray a little bit of Canola oil cooking spray on the bottom of the air fryer so they don't stick but that's it. They come out CRUNCHY and they even get the little bubbles as if they were fried. My whole family is obsessed because they're quick, easy and JUST as delicious as fried, I promise! This is the food that has made me OBSESSED with my air fryer. The ones I made last time are only 185 calories each - filled them with a little bit of onion, pepper, chopped up mini sausage links & turkey pepperoni slices. I've also made guava/cheese, chicken and salsa, ham and cheese..YOU'VE GOTTA TRY THE AIR FRYER!
I love how you honor your family, this segment made me miss my mama. In the Latin culture it’s hard to see now in days the expression of love towards a parent. Your mama and you need a food and recipe segment.
I like that what your mom said about sharing your heritage! Im 26 and i am puerto rican and mexican and i didnt have my mom growing up since she passed away when i was young to show me all this stuff but ive taught my self as ive gotten older. I have a daughter in kindergarten and i have been teaching her all these things because i want her to be proud of who she is!
My boricua sister! I could feel the sofrito vibe through the screen. Great respect for showing pride in your culture and heritage. The world is full of so many beautiful cultures, it's awesome to present our own with such warmth and sincerity as well. Best of luck to you and your family!
Adrienne!!! This video brought me so much JOY! This was one of my favorite things to do with my mom. She transitioned to the spirit light world a year ago and I miss her tremendously and her awesome cooking. Like your beautiful mom she was The model of the BORICUA Mami. I got her pilón too. I turned vegan 5 years ago and she was so amazing she used to make them for me with vegan sausage. They were out of this world!! God Bless you both and continued success with your awesome channel. ❤️🇵🇷❤️ yes I’m subscribed, thumbed up and got the alerts. 😝
Some celebrities you just root for and Adrienne is one of those for me. I’ve loved her since 3LW and you can tell she’s thoroughly enjoying her life. I can’t wait until she gets to have kids, rooting for you girl!
This is literally my favorite video you’ve done, Adrienne! Everything you say and do in regards to pastelillos- from the pilón to eating it with a paper towel- is exactly how I do it! My mom is also my best friend, so I always love seeing you with yours! 💜
We love you the way your Mother love you Adrienne. You are so proud of your heritage and we love the fact that you are 💯 authentic with us. Also love the fact you are a family oriented individual. Can’t way to try this recipe because it looked so good and so easy making! Missing Brooklyn ♥️♥️❤️🤗
In Haiti we called the exact same receipe "pate kòde" meaning beef pate when made with beef.Except we dont use Adobo but we mashed our own natural spice similar to your "sofrito" to season the meat. We also made it out of smoke herring, boiled eggs ,chicken or plain vegetable. We also eat it with "pickliz" meaning pickled made with cabbage carrot onion scotch bonnet pepper and sour orange juice and salt.Bon appetit.
Girl, I had pikliz last week for the first time and I was obsessed, then my best friend wanted me to make her some empanadas, so I decided to buy pikliz and made a puertorrican Haitian fusión empanada, with beef potatoes cheese and pikliz, it was the most delicious thing ever!!
Your mom is beautiful! 😍😄 Those empanadas look delicious! 😋😋😋 Growing up, I loved cooking with my mom. I'm from Haiti so we cooked traditional Haitian meals. She was an awesome cook who wanted to feed everyone who came into our home! 💝
I love so much that your mom shared her recipes. I can also see how much your mom loves you, her eyes are dripping with love and joy. Warms my heart to see such a close and strong bond between a daughter and a mom
My favorite thing to do with my mom is cuddling while watching Tv the same way I did as a little girl or eating ,talking sometimes all at the same time it’s the best feeling in the world !
I’m so glad to see Adrienne & Mom making empanadas. I’m Black in Brooklyn and I make empanadas the exact same way. My good Puerto Rican friend that used to make the sofrito like Nilda moved to another state so now I use the Goya sofrito and recaito. I love it!!
Hello Adrienne! This is my favorite episode so far. My mom's name is Nilda, obviously Newyorican too - from the heights. When cooking with mom it was my job to seal the pastelillos. Great memories thanks for taking me way back.
Omg what is it about Latin women!!!??? They age backwards!!! Your mom is absolutely GORGEOUS!! Can she PLEASE share with us her everyday makeup!! 😉❤️❤️
Adrienne and Doña Nilda, I just want to say thank you for teaching me, a lil Boricua, how to make empanadas. I’m 26 and live on my own and my mom never taught me, she always bought them from a woman (named Nilda!!!) in the hood. Thank you thank you thank you. #lovelovelove
Looks so yummy. I prefer Jamaican Patties, but then again I've never had homemade empanadas or pastelillios. Patties are much larger, the dough is flakey and seasoned with curry powder or turmeric for color, and we bake them. The best way to eat them is in coco bread
Alexandria East Girl, I love how the islands of the Caribbean all have their own version of these meat pastries. I grew up making empanadas but I am also obsessed with Jamaican patties! I wish I could make them. Nothing beats homemade Jamaican patties. 🤤 The Caribbean is something special.
Green Orchid store bought patties and homemade parties do not taste the same. They best I've had in America was a small Jamaican restaurant in Miami, and it still doesn't beat my grandma's own or most of the ones in Jamaica for some reason. I live in Miami so I've tasted plenty of empanadas and pastelillios but I've never had them homemade so I can only imagine 😋
Sometimes being mixed I tend to forget to appreciate my Hispanic heritage, especially being raised with a Africa American mom. You always make me feel blessed to be a boricua.
Lmfaooooooooo!!! I’m very comfortable with myself, my history, and my ancestry. I don’t speak for “black Americans” I speak for myself, and I AM African American. But thank you for your opinion.
I love the bond you and your mother have. It reminds me of me and my mom’s relationship. You and your sister look just like you beautiful mother too.💕Loving these videos Adrienne keep it up girlfran❤️😍❤️❤️👏🏾👏🏾
Hahaha I do the same with my daughter who has a TH-cam channel, every time I get a notification I leave whatever I’m doing and watch her videos. That’s what moms do.
Thankyou my PR sister for making this Video!!! As a PuertoRican🇵🇷 growing up in Chicago i grew up loving and making all our traditional fried foods. Seeing this video just took me back to those days in the kitchen with my mami.. Love your ThanksforNadas idea! You had me cracking up! Pastelillos are my favorite so i totally can relate!!! Our Family will definitely be incorporating your idea into our Thanksgiving Holiday this year! GodBlessYou and your mami!
Your mom gets more and more beautiful every time I see her on your social or on The Real....she just GORGEOUS! Adrienne definitely gets it from her mama (ayyye) 😂😂 #beautiful
I'm going to make them this weekend, but in the west coast of P.R. we call those empanadilla Empanada looks like a pastel is made out of yuca and is oven baked instead of boil loke pasteles and pastelillo is the sweet one made out of phyllo dough and filled with guava and powder sugar on top. Is so amazing being a small island and we used different terms. 💖🇵🇷 Happy cooking!
Yes! Your mom is right! I am 56 and think these videos are great. I bought the same sweater you had on in one of them from H&M. I passed along your "wedding savings" video to my future daughter in law. Love these.
Adrienne you bring so much joy, inspiration and hope in my life you have no idea... it is so comforting to see there are so many ways of living, thinking and building relationships... it make me believe that i can create my own reality and let go of negative way of thinking or people... thank you ♥️
This is amazing my husband is Puerto Rican and I’m colombian always loved Puerto Rican food and I’m always making empanadas but I never seen it done like this with the extra seasoning I usually just do the adobo and that’s it I’m definitely going to try your version!!! So excited!!!! 😊😍 you ladies are beautiful God bless!!! Love your channel
Can we talk about the "crunchiness" of the Empanadillas?! 🥟. I went to Heaven and came back. Nothing like a Puerto Rican mom. My mom also makes some mean Empanadillas.. Great video, your mom looks so sweet.
I loved this!! Your mom seems so genuine and I love how she talks about you talking about your culture because you always represent for NY and for your PR culture !!
Omg bringing the Spanish out of this black girl! I so looooove empanadas! I crave them with all my pregnancies! Thanks A for sharing your life! So bomb! Besos!
We Brazilians eat something similar we call "pastel". It's pretty much the same dough, also deep fried, but it's bigger and rectangular or square shaped and the usual fillings are red meat or cheese. But people make a shrimp version, as well as "pizza version" (whichi is cheese, tomatoes and oregano), heart of palm, chicken... The sweet ones are also delicious, like banana (with either cinammon and sugar or chocolate), chocolate strawberry or "romeu e julieta" (literally "romeo and juliet", which is guava paste with white cheese - just like your mom suggested). It's something very popular in street fairs here in Brazil - street fairs tend to happen one day of the week every week in many different neighbourhoods and people, sometimes, buy their groceries there. So we also refer to pastel as "pastel de feira" (fair pastel). BEST FOOD EVER.
Ju F. Omg you don’t know how much I love Brazilian food it’s the best !!!! My husband is Brazilian I’m dominican.. there is a restaurant in Orlando called Camila’s the best Brazilian food 😋😋😋😋
Adrienne, I see where you get your beauty from your mom is gorgeous and when my mom was alive I used to like to cook and shop with her. The food looked really good ,I may have to try this recipe vegan style ! 😊👍

BEST FOOD EVER.
in Trinidad we call it pastel to but it's similar to you guys it's a cornmeal dough instead .
