Thank you for sharing Andy, it's not always easy to ask or get help professionally with depression. Those who have addiction issues are from all walks of life. Tony Blaire has NO idea what he's talking about & people who suffer from depression, alcohol, drug issues should be able to get help they need to live a better life, one day at a time, without being judged & made to feel guilty.
Thank you for your story. I developed a problem with alcohol. I wasn’t a social drinker , but drank in private while watching opera and classic films on DVD player. After smashing a chair and losing my dentures and falling on the floor a few times, I packed it in. Depression is a real illness, but there are no physical symptoms. One morning I woke up and the depression was gone. Best wishes.
I couldn’t understand what Blair could know about depression. I then thought perhaps he now feels guilt & depression from the number of deaths he caused by his illegal war. Not sure that’s the case though
It’s very real and can be extremely destructive even life threatening. When someone gets thoughts of helplessness or self destruction…. seek help… talk… Exercise. Try to think positive. For some and growing number seek help with your medical expert… It’s no joke . Wish we all lived in a positive happy world but so many things can trip us up… Nothingvto be ashamed of.. For over 20 years I was what’s classed as a High Functioning Alcoholic, I.E I’d go to work operating machinery and driving, I even worked for a Vehicle Hire Company delivering vehicles to customers, but when not at work; evenings and ‘all’ weekends I self-medicated (in the pub) excessively using alcohol. I’ve now become ‘Alcohol Dependent’ I now (don’t/cant work) I have to drink 16-20 units per day, if I don’t I have seizures lasting 2-4 hours which can be fatal, and believe you me, there’s a huge difference between drinking socially or the odd drink at home, to having to drink Alcohol. Don’t fall into the trap, it’s not nice.

Back in the days when Britain had a lot of mental hospitals a friend of mine ended up in one because of depression. I visited him and noticed how many people were in there who seemed institutionalised. Later experience doing some voluntary work showed me this was indeed the case, and some of the older inmates had been put in the hospital originally for very minor mental health issues.
