I would definitely like to see a change to the mana/resource system. It being tied directly to your life count seems counterintuitive especially towards the end of the game. You can’t preserve your life if you need to play cards to preserve your life. Maybe add a lifesteal mechanic? Both players once per turn can give lifesteal to an elsestral?
I quite like the enchantment system in this game. It's like energy in pokemon or lands in MTG but they don't clutter your hand/deck but it's not too exploitable by the equivalent of a yugioh combo deck because the number of spirits is equal to your life total
using life points as mana, but having to equip them like energy cards, is interesting. I'm just not sure if it's fun? Cuz MBT spent like 6 spirits to get his big bug on the field, then lost it to an Exiled Force. It seems like it's easy to just wall up and let your opponent kill themselves, then finish them off with cheap removal.
Yeah, it feels like they didn't have a solid idea as to what function each element of the game would perform. As a result it ends up making some of the same mistakes early 2000's TCGs made.
the game has some neat ideas but it seems insistent on not learning from things that caused past games to fail or that current running games have changed rules wise. games have tried the "your life is also your resource" thing and it tended to pretty universally suck from a gameplay perspective. and like theres a reason current yugioh field spells dont blow up your opponents...
@@gwenyurick9663 to be fair in Pokémon the field spells do blow up the opponents, But they're usually designed either like Chicken Game, beneficial to both, or like Catalyst Field or Umi, immediately gives you value and does nothing on your opponent's turn. The main problem is that they did not learn, Weiss-Swartz is the perfect example of learning from the past, They took failed games like Bakugan TCG and addressed the complaints in their own system.
Kinda wish there were more unique Spirit cards. I understand this is the first set, but having so many duplicates of a particular card gets weird when it's supposed to be a particular *creature* as opposed to a location or resource.
Plus most MtG sets have at least 3 art variants on their Basic Lands per set so that they don't all end up looking identical. This is less of an issue considering the Spirit Deck is auxilliary and not direct, but still *an* issue.
the balancing in this game seems really bad. why do so many cards interact with the main deck? this is the first set and they have just skipped over more than half of their design space
It looks like the packs might not be getting randomized correctly There were multiple packs that contained like the same 3 spells in the same order as another pack
That wouldn't be unheard of, Was kinda surprised there was not more immediately obvious errors with the randomisation, But based on your observation they're likely randomised on the sheets and only on the sheets.
