  • It's here, the final part of how to build your own bike frame with Simon Richardson and the handy team at The Bicycle Academy.

    In the previous two episodes we showed you tubing selection, geometries, tube mitring and tacking the frame together.
    In this video the frame is brazed together. It isn't as simple as that. There is a technique to ensure that the frame remains straight and in-line.
    Simon adds his magic touch to the left rear dropout of the frame, arguable the most important part (in Simon's words).
    Once the frame is brazed together all is not done, there are still some finishing touches to be done, bottom bracket needs to be threaded, the brazing needs to be rubbed down nice and smooth, the head tube has to be faced so that all bearings sit perfectly in place.
    A massive thanks to The Bicycle Academy for their help with this video, check them out here: gcn.eu/TBA

      Yes, if it was a composite frame. That would be my ultimate frame -- a custom composite frame made specifically for my weird old-guy geometry. I would want it to blend elements of aero and enduro with accommodation for disc brakes and larger tires.

    whats the advantage of brazing over welding? thought welding would suit better as its stronger and less material

    • @paulstephens1513
      @paulstephens1513 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clorox Jericho brazing doesn't get as hot as weld so maintains the temper of the tubes. A good fillet braze is strong due to the extra material, but as you observed will be heavier (slightly), but then if you wanted super lightweight you wouldn't choose steel would you.
