  • In this video I discuss a malfunction I recently had with one of my Browning Strike Force trail cameras. Have you ever had a similar problem with a trail camera. Any potential ways to rectify the problem ?

    Having the exact same problem. Seems to want to work when I press down hard on the on/off switch. But can’t get it to stay on. Such a disappointment.

    You'll need a #19 drill bit, .166, to remove the silicone rubber they shot into the holes. Then either a 00 or 000 Phillips head screwdriver. When using the drill bit (all of this by hand, no power drill necessary, but a drill chuck to hold the bit comes in handy) you'll have to push down firmly while turning the bit clockwise until you feel the bit strike the screw head. Turn another turn then withdraw the bit, still turning. If you're lucky the entire plug will come out. Then it's just a matter of removing the screws.

    I had two of these. Both failed around two years. One won’t power up at all. Forums are full of complaints like these. Like you. I have enjoyed the camera. But two cameras. And two failures in two years. Will be looking elsewhere at another brand to replace them with.

    I have the Browning Strike Force BTC-5. It was only several weeks old when the LCD display, while it still lit green, it showed now text. I emailed Browning several times since it was still under warranty, and got no reply. It still works but I can't change mode or the date which is showing 2014. While reading the comments on this video I decided to smack the camera on my desk a few times... and the LCD text now works again after not working for 5 years!

    I had the same problem with a Browning Dark Ops BTC-6HD. I think it was flashing in my case because of a SD card reading problem. Try another card to confirm if you have one. On my Mac, I opened "disk utility" and re-formatted the SDHC card to MS-DOS (Fat) as recommended. I still had a problem so I ran "First Aid" in the disk utility. Now the camera is working. We'll see if that was the problem.... Good luck

    I had this problem once. I put a brand new sd card in the camera and it worked fine after that.

    I just went to the browning website, the firmware update is just for the 2015 model... my bad. Im not sure if you have a USB connection on the bottom of the camera like the 2015 model but if you do I would try and see what access to the software you have by plugging it into a pc .... maybe there is a reset option. Im not sure though, just an idea... I hope this helps !

    Not sure if you still have the camera but I've seen that happen when there is a power problem. Is it possible to try it with an AC adapter? Try and look at the battery contacts inside the camera itself.

    Hello, we had just bought a trail camera to record nocturnal animals. The first few times it worked just fine but now our problem is that it only records 2 seconds. For example out of 50 recordings, only about 2 or 3 records a pre-programmed 20 seconds and the other 47 times, it records only 2 seconds. Can you or anyone help us out? Thanks so much

    Went to get mine out the other day and when I open the case noticed the screen flashing on and off and said low battery. I put brand new battery's in and same thing so I tried again with different batteries and still no luck . My other one is doing fine no issues just this 1 it's less than a year old but browning said they need my receipt and I'm unable to locate it so I'm just out of luck

      colby hall a debit card or credit card will work as proff of purchase. They just need some sort of proof it is one year old.
      Also try doing a full fat32 format, un-select the quick format. That should fix it. . Also make sure using the SanDisk brand or Kingston SD card. That should get you fixed up. If not you can send the camera in and if can't produce the proff of purchase you can still send it in with a note stating how and when you recived it.

    I have one that won't turn on starting yesterday. l push the switch to on and nothing happens. Replaced the new batteries with new batteries still nothing. I paid $150.00 guts feathers and all for it a few years ago. Witch is a lot of money for me. Anybody have a fix-it idea for my do nothing Browning strike force. The on/off switch has always been sloppy to turning on.

    I bought two Browning Trail Camera Strike Force HD Model BTC-5HD cameras in August 2017. I have had a problem with one of the cameras not wanting to hold on to the SD card. It was intermittent at first and finally quit holding on to the card at all. I tried another SD card and it wouldn't hold that card either. The other camera stopped working two days ago. We reinserted the SD card after viewing the contents on the card and turned the camera on. The camera would not turn on. We changed batteries and the camera still would not turn on. These cameras are not even 4 months old and both are inoperative!

      Martha Morrison call the number in the camera. Press option 2. Make sure to have proff of purchase, receipt, credit. Credit card statement, or bank card statement. The camera has a one year warranty from purchase. And you can call the support and have the camera sent in to get repaired or replaced if can't be fixed. They are very helpful and will help you with this. The turn around from the they receive it is 6-10 business days.

    Chad did the update work? Just curious, I will only spend my $ on Brownings now. Eventually as I can afford to do so I will swap all mine out. I had one problem with my Recon Force and Browning was great. Let me know if you dont get any results & I will give you an email to someone direct that could help you esp with all your great feedback over the last cpl years on your Brownings.

    I am having issues with my Browning as well . However I dont see an upgrade of firmware for my model (BTC-7FHD) . I do see the mention of the issues stated in this video posted here . browningtrailcameras.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005217367-Blinking-Display-Screen . My camera was having issues by not showing the display back light and turning on. I left it in the field for a month and when I went to retrieve it the other day , it had 2 videos on it . The one video was from me pulling it out and the other was a 10 point walking around about an hour before I got there. I put in new batteries andI get nothing . I pulled the back case off to let it dry out and got nothing. I hooked it up to the computer and everything finally turned on. Was able to adjust settings . Unhooked it from computer and it went back to no power. Obviously an issue with the battery connection.

    Mine won't take video at night. It takes pictures OK but not video. It won't trigger. I know animals come by because I put cut up apples all around the area and they are all gone in the morning.

    • @Jonlicht
      @Jonlicht 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      JabberCT make sure you are using enigizer batteries. They perform the best in the camera. And want to make sure there is good battery life for at night. It requires more power at night to operate the inf flash/light.

    I had 2 of those. One showed similar erratic behavior after about 2 years (coming on when it's turned off, light blinking when it's on, and not recording or responding to anything), the other just went completely dead right after it went out of warranty. I have another, newer generation Browning that is still working, but has the crappiest picture quality, even though it is supposed to have very high resolution. Looks grainier than a 10 year old cell phone. Will probably not buy another Browning.

    Do a full fat32 format, it's an easy fix. Make sure not to do a quick format. You want to do the full. It takes about 20 min. And make sure to use a card from 4-32gb class 10 card. And don't use the micro SD card. And you will be all good.

    • @Jonlicht
      @Jonlicht 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also make sure you are using enigizer batteries.
      And the ad cards use SanDisk.

    BTC-5HD These are crap cameras. When they work they work well. Have three of four that the IR cut filter fails to drop/cycle which renders them unable to take night shots. This was, of course, immediately after warranty. "Browning", or whoever they really are, will not stand behind a clearly defective product. If I can figure out what screw head type lies beneath the holes on the back I'll take one apart and see if there's an obvious fix.

    I have one of those camera and mine will not work. I put a sd chip in it and it says card locked . I checked the card it is not locked. I tried different sd cards and have the same result. I will not be buying another. Browning will not repair it once the camera is beyond 12 months old.

      My BTC-1XR did the same thing. I found a post that said when you clear your SD card, do it in the camera, not a computer. I started doing that and I haven't had this problem since.

  • @austiny.6475
    @austiny.6475 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you've had it for two years Browning probably won't do anything about it, but it can't hurt to check with them anyways. But trail cameras are put through a lot of stress with extreme cold and extreme heat. I'd say for 130 bucks you've probably got your money's worth out of it by now.

    • @zzz7zzz9
      @zzz7zzz9 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends if that was two years of hard use or not. one would hope today's tcams will last a whole lot longer than that. but the more fancy they get, they probably are built to last through the warranty + one day. my cheapest cam is a little tasco, but that thing will last forever it seems, and actually takes pretty darn good pics. survived a bear attack, the littlest tooth mark on it, the cam didn't budge(it was just strapped to the tree), and he only flipped one latch(it wasn't broken or harmed). so far I have been lucky with all my cams, 4 different brands. a browning was on my list for my next one, but issues like this are concerning.

    • @tsalagiman
      @tsalagiman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's concerning to me too after just a couple of years. I have a BTC-1XR that I have been using in my front yard for a couple of years as a security camera. Recently mine started taking pictures all day and all night with nothing in sight. It just ran down a set of lithium batteries I just bought a couple of weeks ago and they normally last about six months. I didn't know it at the time, but according to some trail camera review sites, Browning is low end.

    In my experience, things made in China last about twelve months.
    My trail cameras last on average of eighteen months.
    Please include the useful life of your cameras in your reviews.
    Which cameras last over two years?
    Also, battery life is not measured in months but on number of gigabytes of photos and videos per set of batteries. I filled a thirty two gigabyte SD card and depleted a set of eight AA batteries in less than twenty four hours.

    • @Jonlicht
      @Jonlicht 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      E Gardner make sure to use enigizer batteries. If it still is running down. Check to see if it needs an upgrade to fix the issue. If not call support and they will help you get it fixed.

    I think I found the issue ! Did you ever get it resolved ? Mine started the flickering about a month ago and then just wouldn’t turn on at all. Well I disassembled the battery tray and carefully slid our the battery contacts and found light corrosion. I tried steel wool to no avail and then was successful with vinegar and a brush ! Problem solved. I love this camera it was in the field 13 months before this problem arose. Here is my video of the fix.
