I does however suck balls that they didn't upgrade the Charge 4 and Xtreme 2. Especially since they haven't even been out for a year.
Probably a hardware thing since they upgraded them after 2 years which had given them enough time for improvements. The Charge 3 however did get Connect+ via software update, but that immediately sparked lots of issues... Most ppl even going as far as to say they're intentionally trying to make it worse so that the Charge 4 can stand out even more. I personally don't mind it but regardless, yes, it is a letdown

My friend has a JBL Charge 4 and I have a Xtreme 2, I can confirm the range is amazing, I work in a warehouse, we tested how far it would go, there's literally no place it wouldn't reach
I recently bought 2 flip 5's thinking they'd be a great stereo pair. It's been mostly frustration every time I use them since they periodically just cut out for a couple seconds and only 1 speaker will be playing until they reconnect. Really kills the vibe, I'll be returning them soon.
They are only able to make small to none improvements over the older gen speakers so they force consumers to upgrade using this. You very well can make better connectivity new gen speakers while keeping them backwards compatible. Sure once older speakers connected to chain quality and range would go down but that would be acceptable it won't effect new gen speakers but allow older ones to get in. So they are either lazy or sinister take your pick.
i was wondering why my coworker and i couldn't connect our 2 speakers, now i know about the different pairing technologies. annoying to find out but at least now i know
I really liked my JBL Flip 3. I sold a ton of friends on it, because being able to connect all the speakers together was great. But in a year the battery tanked. It can barely play for a few hours. Now a mere two years-ish later, they're repeating the exact same planned obsolescence garbage. I appreciate your perspective, and that JBL are trying to innovate, but I only see a company trying to make poor quality goods that will quickly make their way to a landfill for years. Where are our replaceable batteries? Why not have a fallback mode to connect/connect+. The reasons are obvious.
How did you measure those range tests? Cause officially the range between 2 paired speakers in partyboost is only 5 meters (6 yards), for best resulst recommend only 2,5m (3y). A friend of mine who has 2 Flip 6 said sth similar about his experience. My 2 sony xb33 (party connect) have a range about 10-12 meters (13y) with frees sight, for best results with people standing between 6m (7y).
They should at least maintain backward compatibility with Connect+. Pretty sure it's mostly a software limitation, maybe in a bad bid to make the previous products feel obsolete. Even the latest Wi-Fi AX routers maintain compatibility with wi-fi AC/N/B/G. The latest bluetooth technologies are also able to connect to older bluetooth devices. Seriously, This type of behaviour is what will cause JBL to lose customers over the long run - They're doing themselves a big disfavour. I have an Xtreme 2 and would have considered buying the Boombox 2 if there was backward compatibility. Too bad their engineers didn't bother to make that happen...So not buying any new JBL speakers for a long while.
First off, JBL needs to drop party Boost until its backwards compatible with older gear. Second, and this is an idea that should be kicked around at JBL, being able to connect two speakers in stereo ( you pick which ones ), and have the rest play in "party mode". I'm actually surprised we don't the ability to do 5.1 or 7.2 surround on Bluetooth 5.2 yet. I think being able to add a Bluetooth sub-woofer would also, really add punch to many of JBL's smaller speaker lineup. The boombox is awesome, there no denying this, but its not a dedicated sub-woofer and its quite expensive. I have two extreme 2's, and if I was able to use them as dedicated subs (LFM) via the app, that would be awesome. I'm sure JBL could find a way to use them as such (safely), without damaging the drivers. The upper suits that run the Bluetooth speaker division over at JBL need ideas. They are dropping the ball here big time on party boost, and forgetting about the customers/products that got them where they are today. Don't shun connect+ as if its a redheaded stepchild JBL, keep it as part of the family.
With Partyboost, what happens with additional speakers? Do they all connect to speaker#1 (paired to the phone), or do they connect to the nearest speaker? In the first case, it would be possible to have a 200 yard diameter wheel with the main speaker at the center and other speakers 100 yards out, at the end of the spokes. With the second arrangement, it would be theoretically possible to arrange speakers in a line spanning many hundreds of yards, with one speaker handing off to the next. So can you clarify how this extended arrangement would work, and whether latency ever becomes an issue? Thanks for a great video and clever graphic illustration on the football field. Yeah, there are only 3 scenarios here: scenario 1: It's just a new encoding method. - you can update the software that defines that, that is what the JBL app is for scenario 2: It's a hardware change. - what did you change? 1. The antenna - okay, the older speakers will have a smaller range, but whatever 2. The chip that encodes it. - okay, then MAYBE, if there truly was no way to make it compatible you have a point, but you can't seriously believe that there was no way scenario 3: You changed the frequency on which it transmits. - did you do this on purpose? just to make it not compatible? really?
Since bluetooth connection allows two different devices to pair up. Can you use a connect + and a partyboost connection at the same time? Then use all your connect + devices?

DerTechnikKanal I got both of them it just weird that I can’t jam out in parties in party mode because signal interference of people’s think a setup for that
the takeaway from the video was they are genuinely making the connections better with party boost, but it's a really big let down that they didn't make it backwards compatible with connect plus
I use the speakers in my back yard for parties. I got rid of my JBL connect speakers because anything over 6 feet they didn’t work. The connect+ works to about 25feet
Fr if I was going that far I would take my speaker with so I can hear it more and also so nobody would try and steal it if I’m out in public like at a park or party ect
Yeah this is planned obsolescence. They could have released a wireless repeater if range really was an issue, which for the vast majority of customers it is not.
Does it remember? By this I mean if you connect to speakers with partyboost and put them in stereo, will they stay in stereo when you turn them off and on again? Connect did this but connect plus did away with it
Evyn Milligan no they don’t remember, which sucks considering the process for getting them into stereo is not super easy. 😤 First, be sure you are only connected to one speaker. I then get that speaker connected and playing, with the app open and it showing my speaker. Only then do I power on the second speaker, then connect the two with the PB buttons. At this point the app shows my speaker searching, then eventually shows the second speaker and this is when the PB and Stereo buttons become “live.” In addition to all this frustration (and the fact that you have to do it every time), my app doesn’t allow me to go back and forth between PB and Stereo after a short period of time. Even if I keep the app open, it will stop showing those buttons at the bottom and just say that I’m connected in PB mode (regardless of which mode I’m in). If I want to switch to other mode, I have to repeat the process. Great speakers; app and programming are pure 💩

charge 4 is louder than charge 3 and has more bass and freakin high mid-range, but sound clarity in charge 3 especially the treble is good.
can the flip 4 and charge 3 connect together?
Actually the distance might be even less because there might be a buffer of the music data still playing while the connection has already lost.
But the order should stay the same in theory…
Yeah, there are only 3 scenarios here:
scenario 1: It's just a new encoding method.
- you can update the software that defines that, that is what the JBL app is for
scenario 2: It's a hardware change.
- what did you change?
1. The antenna
- okay, the older speakers will have a smaller range, but whatever
2. The chip that encodes it.
- okay, then MAYBE, if there truly was no way to make it compatible you have a point, but you can't seriously believe that there was no way
scenario 3: You changed the frequency on which it transmits.
- did you do this on purpose? just to make it not compatible? really?
Since bluetooth connection allows two different devices to pair up. Can you use a connect + and a partyboost connection at the same time? Then use all your connect + devices?
Should work on android. When I tried it on my iPhone back in 2020, it was an iPhone 7, I was encountering a bin full of disasters. Supposedly Apple added that functionality in iOS 13. They’ve probably removed it in the betas or something, because when I saw the video talking about it, the guy was running the beta version of iOS 13.
Hi,
We'd like to connect wirelessly 9 headphones to my phone at the same time.
We can use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi technology for higher audio quality and range.
Our primary goal is to use 1 transmitter, but 2 transmitters are OK if it's needed.
Our headphones have built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies so we want to use that.
Could you please help us on how we can connect 9 headphones to one phone at the same time wirelessly using the headphones Wireless technologies?
Thank you for your time and assistance.
cant even connect the charge 4 and pulse 4 togehter via aux cause jbl pulled an apple on the pulse 4.
Okay what I'm hearing is that I should ditch my charge 4 for a charge 5 just in time for the charge 6 to come out and have a connect platform that isn't compatible with the charge 5.
Anyone know where Altec Lansing's House Party mode stacks up? looking to move away from Altec as my waterproof stereo speakers. Not satisfied with the range, looking at JBL Extreme with Connect+ but wondering where it will stack up.
Do you know if JBL said anything about upgrading to partyboost on the charge 4 or Xtreme 2 ? I mean those two aren’t even out a year with Connect plus nd know there is something new that’s kinda stupid they at least need to upgrade those two in my opinion
DerTechnikKanal I got both of them it just weird that I can’t jam out in parties in party mode because signal interference of people’s think a setup for that
But no one would go 80 yards, I just need my charge 3 to flip 5 to connect together
the takeaway from the video was they are genuinely making the connections better with party boost, but it's a really big let down that they didn't make it backwards compatible with connect plus
Please, watch the video again. It's not only about distance, it's about how many walls you have at home too.
@@TecZilla nobody has THAT many walls. you usually use a phone and a speaker in the same room anyway lol
Yeah this is planned obsolescence. They could have released a wireless repeater if range really was an issue, which for the vast majority of customers it is not.
How many speakers can you link with the party boost tho? I can’t find that info anywhere it just says ‘multiple’ 🤷🏽♀️
It's a ridiculous number like 99 or 100 I believe
Does it remember? By this I mean if you connect to speakers with partyboost and put them in stereo, will they stay in stereo when you turn them off and on again? Connect did this but connect plus did away with it
Evyn Milligan no they don’t remember, which sucks considering the process for getting them into stereo is not super easy. 😤
First, be sure you are only connected to one speaker. I then get that speaker connected and playing, with the app open and it showing my speaker. Only then do I power on the second speaker, then connect the two with the PB buttons. At this point the app shows my speaker searching, then eventually shows the second speaker and this is when the PB and Stereo buttons become “live.”
In addition to all this frustration (and the fact that you have to do it every time), my app doesn’t allow me to go back and forth between PB and Stereo after a short period of time. Even if I keep the app open, it will stop showing those buttons at the bottom and just say that I’m connected in PB mode (regardless of which mode I’m in). If I want to switch to other mode, I have to repeat the process. Great speakers; app and programming are pure 💩
How many speakers can you pair together ?
Unfortunately partyboost is disabled when you use it as tv speaker
You can connect up to 100 party boost speakers together.
But why they dont put like to be conpatible with all the connect and + and patyboost..
Some extra range? Come on at least make the XTREME 2 compatible
Roses ML yea and charge 4
Just make all of them compatible. They all use Bluetooth 4.2 so they can do it
@@dbp2625 Exactly!
i donot have any jbl device now but want to have one which one do you recommend flip 4 or 5
Flip 5 because all of their speakers are going to have partyboost from now on
Flip 5 Obviously, don't buy the FLip 4 like I just did to find out it's obsolete for multiple connections...even tho it's still a new speaker of theirs
I have the boom box and was going to buy a party box and a flip 5 today but if Jbl is trying to con it’s customers I’m out. Don’t sell me connect technology that no longer connects to a system that I’ve already sunk hundreds of dollars in to. Rip off, rip off, rip off.
so, the question is: HOW MANY PARTYBOOST SPEAKERS CAN I CONNECT SIMULTANIASLY?
Up to 100
Can you connect JBL PartyBoost speakers in stereo mode to a PC or laptop?
i have this question too.seems like no
What if i connect 2jbl extreme 2's?will be stereo or two thimes mono? and what if connect 3 or more? im just waiting for my extreme 2's and would like to know how will they perform!
Kind of ridiculous that partyboost isn't backwards compatible with connect +
I'd have to purchase two new boombox 2s to achieve what i want in my yard. Smh
I have a Charge 3 and a Charge 4. Both have connect+.
I was looking foward to grab a bigger one, but both the boombox 2 and the xtreme 3 are not compatible with the ones I awready have, so nope, I'm not buying this bullshit.
You could buy the Boombox 1 or the Xtreme 2 which have connect plus
@@georgearaujo6532 That's what I did, got myself a boombox 1, but it sucks to have to buy older models.
@@ubvrox a couple of years is not "old". it's what corporations make you think.
Hello the boomboc is compatible with flip 5 ?
The Boombox 2 is compatible with the flip 5 because both have partyboost... Boombox only has connect plus. Sorry it piss me off too
I prefer connect plus
Can we connect Xtreme2 with Pulse4 ?
nope
Pulse 3 best speaker of all time
Why the hell can’t they just let us join backwards. Such a cheap way to make you buy more speakers
That’s annoying I have a charge 4 and just got a pulse 4 smh I didn’t even know
Sony can barely go across my pool sadly.
Water eats wireless signals. Try raising the speaker up a foot or two if possible.
@@xorbe2 maybe I'll try that next time, thanks!
Yea i pared a flip 5,charge 5 and pulse 4
This is a real bullshit move by JBL! I have the charge 4 and this speaker at least should’ve been upgraded to partyboost..
I wish somebody was able to create some kind of custom firmware to side-load.
pulse 4 is the bezelless
Fuck me. I just bought the jbl flip 5. I have the jbl charge 4
This not good Jbl..
I disappoint
Damn dude hit sony hard , that was a great ending lmfao!!!😂😂😂
(Then your gonna end up like sony and not even make it to the 18yrd line!!!)
Innovation baby!!!😋
Wow just released this now, JBL u srs...
I think I am just going to buy another pulse 2 and use that pair with my JBL Extreme.
QUESTION: Who on earth wants to make a party, friends only, in a football field?
I'm just buying BB1 w Conect+, so I can connect w my 2 XTreme 2s that I can already spread all over my houses w their respective sizes... 👍
Please, watch the video again. It's not only about distance, it's about how many walls you have at home too.
What if i connect 2jbl extreme 2's?will be stereo or two thimes mono? and what if connect 3 or more? im just waiting for my extreme 2's and would like to know how will they perform!
@@AS-fo8oi 2 "Connect+" capable OF THE SAME MODEL = Stereo
Anything else = Mono
Hope it helps 👍
@@TecZilla I'm considering it, and I confirm that I can put the "master" speaker on a second floor and still connect the slave ones on the first floor, separated by a ceramic, cement, iron and plaster floor.
Besides that, I already have issues w my slave speakers getting interference from the neighbor's speaker inside his house, so, increasing range w/o authentication will be hell. 👀
@@KalidioDzk thanks man!
Flip 4 is still better than Flip 5.
No. I like Flip 5 better.
No
WHHHYYYYYY
