Egg prices rising over bird flu. Could they move higher in 2025?

Egg prices tick up to start 2025 as elevated prices are expected to persist on the return of the bird flu. A new avian influenza outbreak has decreased the amount of egg-laying hens by 3%, according to the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) mid-December report. Yahoo Finance senior reporter Brooke DiPalma describes the impact the bird flu is having on future generations of hens and the pricing dynamic egg demand is having on other foods. She points to Cal-Maine Foods' (CALM) fiscal second quarter results - reporting $954.7 million in revenue against expectations of $751.5 million - with egg prices being a significant factor that could drive profits in the egg producer's coming quarter.
