I call for another international collaboration! Jean Pierre from JP performance built one with the drive train of an Audi TT inside, they put down some big number on a dyno, but the car was never really finished and never worked really well.... Sounds like a fun job for Marty and Moog
Parts might be difficult and expensive to source, Haldex and a 1.8 TFSI, super tight fit in that body and probably lots of issues with thermal management. They should turbo the 1.0 instead, get the old band together Tubo Yoda and Mechanical Stig and the rest.

My face aches from smiling solidly for 15 minutes. I’m looking forward to the “I’ll dominate all Daihatsus” comeuppance moment with great relish! Marty puts his faith in some Aussie tuner messing with an old Dihatsu vs a team of German engineers with 20 more years of development, and that is one tired sounding old Dihatsu. That thing needs 3 carbs and some high comp pistons.
id love to see you guys revisit turning a regular car electric. as im sure in the next few years electric conversions are going to become a staple for mechanics and car enthusiasts who want to keep their old petrol cars
GM is working on electric kits to do just that, go to a dealer, buy the whole shebang, cut your existing car apart, and stuff all the new bits in. it's really exciting
@@ghomerhust I've seen a few companies with kits already but a big manufacturer is promising. I'm still waiting a couple years for battery tech to get better so I don't end up wanting to upgrade my batteries right away
@Thor Odin son you sound very uninformed in the current era sir. I don't mean that in a bad way but only about 20% of the U.S power comes from coal and that number is drastically dropping every year. Most car manufacturers are using cobalt and nickel free batteries such as the lithium iron phosphate batteries to get out of those unethical mining operations. Idk where you live but as far as I've seen here in Canada and in alot of places in the US is the grid is 100% being updated. And I'm not saying gas is going to be gone in a year or 2 but in 10 years it will definitely be more of a rarity. And electricity is wayyyyyyy cheaper than gas. Like by a factor of 10. Again at least where I live. Also if a gas car runs out of gas it also has to be either towed or have gas delivered so I fail to see your point. Also battery tech is advancing far faster than most technologies. There's already tech that will do away with range anxiety. It's just a matter of waiting for them to make it to market. There's also hydrogen cars which have some potential. Gasoline will inevitably die. Sorry
I now have a Skoda Citigo (essentially the same as the VW Up!, but different badge, better customer after sales service and lots cheaper) which has been mapped from 59 BHP to 85 BHP and I upgraded brake pads and discs on the front and coil over suspension. It's loads of fun on a windy road. You've gotta rinse the engine to extract useable power from 4000-6000 rpm. I would argue that it's as much fun (but different) from my previous BMW M135i, which had 321 BHP and the 8 speed ZF auto gearbox.

This is a modern engine and is gonna require tons of work, JP didn't quite manage to get rid of the issues for a reason. They should turbo the 1.0 instead, get the old band together Tubo Yoda and Mechanical Stig and the rest.
@@krmr my idea was for them to work on JP s car. And power and heat management clearly weren't the problem for JP and his team. They made 400 HP with that engine. I just rewatched it. However the car just didn't get the final touch to be usefully drivable
My face aches from smiling solidly for 15 minutes. I’m looking forward to the “I’ll dominate all Daihatsus” comeuppance moment with great relish!
Also, the one time I’ve experienced oversteer in a FWD car was on black ice round a large roundabout, just picking up speed to join a motorway… at night. I turned from a relaxed driver to a very worried passenger in about a millisecond. Very lucky not to hit even a curb there!
Oh, and the GR Yaris is probably the 3 cylinder “Daihatsu” that’s about to come and get chopping, thinking about it.
I heard lower your expectations and you will be impressed. An American you know said this. Good show. I enjoyed
Cold tyres and a left rear locking up definitely helps with a spin
Love both. I’ve watched the UP Rally sprint clip at least a dozen times
As an owner of an up! GTI and a basic up! before that, Moog's holding back round the corners.
Not fast but great chassis, great fun👍
No thanks
Thanks for this, lads.. I needed a distraction and your video was the perfect antidote- been a fan for years / thank you for all the lols.
I love the UP is so honest and simple. Great little car.
my dad has a VW Up! at first I wasn't too excited about it mainly because of the amount of power. BUT NOW!! I FREAKING LOVE IT 😍
Love the dnb tunes you guys producing for these vids recently
I like the cheeky dnb music right at the end. Resplendent.
Nice rabbit, Martin.
Missed it by a Hare.
Also. I think that was an Hare
The UP! is cute as hell from the front at least. I'd like one with the MK8 Golf R driveline bits stuffed in it.
Love it! Get to watch right as I'm on break!
That nostalgic music when the camera panned over to the Daihatsu took me back!
The back ground music when marty introduces the mira took me back from the start!!! 😍
You guys bringing back those old TG vibes. Nice job.
Love having the nuggets back!
Also Loved the usage of the older music Like Jimmy Rabbit :D
Love the show guys been watching for a long time. Although it baffles me that you guys haven't bought a Mark 2 Renault Clio 172/182. Best budget hot hatch out there for sure. Please give it a go :)
Marty puts his faith in some Aussie tuner messing with an old Dihatsu vs a team of German engineers with 20 more years of development, and that is one tired sounding old Dihatsu. That thing needs 3 carbs and some high comp pistons.
again,, another classic.. keep it up fellas
When I saw the rear window, I knew it was a Cuore!!! I'm so happy you guys got another!!
id love to see you guys revisit turning a regular car electric. as im sure in the next few years electric conversions are going to become a staple for mechanics and car enthusiasts who want to keep their old petrol cars
Sorry
Awesome touch using the original theme when you show the Cuore :D
Great video I really enjoyed it cant wait for part 2
Can't wait for the follow up race!!! 🔥🔥🔥
The throwback to the OG music was just straight on point.
2:20 the music just gave me so much nostalgia "first jack up your car"
FUCKING LOVE THE OLD TOP GEAR REFERENCE. MCM/TOP GEAR (OLD SERIES)/GRAND TOUR. You guys are my automotive life
I now have a Skoda Citigo (essentially the same as the VW Up!, but different badge, better customer after sales service and lots cheaper) which has been mapped from 59 BHP to 85 BHP and I upgraded brake pads and discs on the front and coil over suspension. It's loads of fun on a windy road. You've gotta rinse the engine to extract useable power from 4000-6000 rpm. I would argue that it's as much fun (but different) from my previous BMW M135i, which had 321 BHP and the 8 speed ZF auto gearbox.
This was just fun to watch!!!
My first car ! And thats why i started watching you guys, like 10 years ago !
Best 4WD channel ever!
I bought a 2012 Fiesta with the 1.6 manual for a nice little gas saver and it is one of the most fun and reliable cars I have ever owned.
Yeah I've driven one and agree. Very good drive
Oh it's so good to see an ol L700 back again on this channel.
My friend just got a VW up! He drove me to the gym and even tho I was in the passenger seat, I am obsessed with it
I'm thoroughly impressed with that little Daihatsu, I thought the Up! was just gonna take off and it wasn't gonna be a contest
Here's a suggestion: 2 liter, twin turbo! Split between two cars and race them again!
