I have just ordered this album, and 2 others from this band. It felt as if I had to do it, as if it was necessary. This music is just THAT beautiful. A few tears more... And I am free of my sorrows, and I escape to the realm of music...
Lyrics: Seething undertows shape searing limbs Relentless fuel for the eternal fires The flames devoured the seeds that contained them Long inert spirits have risen in restless glee The once harmonious strings that bind the universe Have been tuned to dischord Cacophonous aura of illness and woe Man is but beast of inimitable foulness But spirit is foulest, devoid and askew Impure is the secret that all men speak Impurity is the secret……
I didnt think I would ever find anything quite as profound and heavy as Bell Witch, but this is. Amazing by a standard that I thought was impossible to live up to.
Interesting to find someone who found Mournful Congregation after finding Bell Witch. It was the other way around for me. Regardless, both bands are amazing and inspiring, and I think anyone who listens to Funeral-doom ought to at least listen to both bands regularly.
True, but I've always thought Mournful Congregation's brand of funeral doom was unique and articulate compared to others. This isn't just "funeral doom," it's a fucking monolithic, soul-crushing beast of an album.
I'm more into the faster and noisier genres of metal such as thrash, grind, death, black metal and so forth. But when I wanna go slow and low, mournful congregation hit the spot.In a league of they're own,the biz.
Good pick. I'm glad that it's not just fellow hardcore funeral doom fans like me that can appreciate and recognize how Mournful Congregation really is on another level but some casual listeners as well. They're truly unique and genre-transcending.
Wormphlegm, Ahab, aside from those already mentioned below. My Dying Bride, while not actually "funeral doom" is great nevertheless and one of my favorite bands. "Dreadful Hours" maybe (great album!) but "Trinity" moreso, imo. "Songs of Darkness, Words of Light" is wonderful as well. Not such a fan of female vocals myself, but Draconian is a rare exception. You might like the band Enchantment also. ("Dance the Marble Naked")
I don't listen to much of this type of metal so does anyone know of any bands that sound very similar to this band? I love this song and the feel of it. ._.
This is funeral doom at its absolute pinnacle...one of the best songs I’ve ever heard
that's right, i would like it played at my death day....
For me the outro resembles losing something or someone you love and saying goodbye for the last time
10:38 - 12:16 would catch the ear of Persephone in Stygia.
12:17 - outro would move Hades to return the band's dead lovers to life.
all hail mournful i need this album.
The end of this song is the epitome of sadness
Euphoric depression 🖤🎶
This is something really beautiful.
