    I know I'm commenting on this video almost 4 years late, but I just wanted to say how helpful this is. I didn't start pursuing acting until after college so I feel like I'm at a disadvantage in a lot of ways. But it's so helpful to learn all these important aspects of the industry as a newcomer.

    Here's my opinion on this monologue:
    + Good, she managed to learn it by heart.
    + she has an idea about the character's emotions
    - she's acting, there is lack of being real. -> to be real means to be you, to bring the character from within you, not from an idea of seeing the character as someone who's not you.
    - what does the character want? I don't feel it. Deside on what the character wants and try repeating it in the back of your mind while doing the monologue.
    And a little tip that I myslef had to learn as I myself tend to do a lot of facial expressions: don't overthink what's happening on your face. Calm down and stay true to the text and it'll come on it's own. Don't plan your facial expressions, because it stops you from being real and authentic.
    Salut!
    Ps: I'm not here to judge or say that your critique is bad, Makayla. I'm just adding my opinion.

    I’m a high school dropout. I dropped out to do my dream job which is acting. Acting has been my dream job for as long as I could remember. The 1982 Annie movie inspired me. Even though I can’t sing and dance. Does it count if I was in a school play in second grade? I don’t remember the play and I know I got nervous and threw a fit because of how nervous I was back then, and even though I suffer from really bad anxiety, I want to be able to push myself out there and be comfortable around more people.

      You got this andrine :P! Start performing in the plays and musicals your school offers. We all get nervous. It's an amazing feeling though when you take a step forward to go on stage even though your stomach is full of nerves. For me, they seem to magically do away. Acting, for a lot of people is also a form of therapy. Sometimes we can be more honest with how we really feel, because we are showing those emotions through a character. I know performing is therapeutic for me.

    • @yespapa3293
      @yespapa3293 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      its always better to have taken classes, it really just gives you a better understanding of acting and gives you a bit of experience. it also shows that you are dedicated to the art. most cities offer some sort of acting classes/workshops, although I understand they may be expensive. you could always sign up for local theatre groups or school drama though. I hope this helps

    • @nerdofmanyhats
      @nerdofmanyhats 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jubi! You absolutely can! This is a business, but they know people have to start somewhere. Casting Directors are rooting for us. They want to find the next amazing actor. They definitely still take chances on newbies. Just be honest about your actual experience. You are a professional. You have nothing to be ashamed about this beginning...where we all started...unless your mom put you in stuff when you were an infant. haha If you still need help, I just did a video on this and have free no experience actor rèsumè templates. I would suggest start going for local plays at your school or church. And just as yes papa suggested, do you want to take classes. Luckily, there are a bunch of classes online that are generally cheaper right now then they would typically be. Try to find schools/classes, that have people who are actively going on auditions. All the best!

      I agree with what everyone else is saying. Auditions are ALWAYS FREE! It's extremely rare that a producer would email you directly. But, if it was a legit producer they would not ask for money. And if you are in doubt, go to the audition with a friend. But NEVER pay for an audition.

    How do you get rid of nerves when doing auditions

    • @nerdofmanyhats
      @nerdofmanyhats 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know that the nerves ever really go away. I feel like most actors would say, it's about doing it anyways. I remember one time I was so nervous, I could feel the know in my throat. That had NEVER happened before & I've performed in front of very large and small audiences. Those nerves definitely surprised me. I still gave it my best but I don't think it was the best I was capable of. But, I will never forget that experience.
      Sometimes, it is about the fear of failure. Just go in grateful that you get the chance to act in front of someone...instead of to yourself in the mirror ☺️ ... and go in there knowing, they brought you in because they see something in you. Let yourself shine. If after a good number of auditions, you are still so nervous that it is paralyzing you, then something else is going on that you would need to look at.

    hey, I got a question for you, My last name really doesn't have a ring, and it's like 3 syllables long, should I pick something different for a stage name or is that like WAY down the line? I'm guessing it needs to be a legit name for W-2 purposes etc right?
