    Good to see you back on the water and creating some content, have always enjoyed your videos. I like shad fishing along with slow pitch jigging sadly the weather has stopped me getting out much all through June maybe only five times and then we have been plagued with haddock, legal size but no meat on them which has made the cod fishing very poor, hopefully they will have moved off when I am back home in August and the weather gets better. Thanks for sharing

      Thanks for the kind words Brian. The ground fishing hasn't been great this year so far has it. There are certainly still a lot of small Haddock on the ground. I would like to think that by August some of the better stamp fish will have returned once again. Best regards, Andy 👍

      Hi Nathaniel. Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad that you found the videos useful.
      The braid I use for wrecking is 60lb Spectra. It’s nice and robust. It’s not the thinnest diameter, but you’re not casting with it, so it’s absolutely fine.
      You can get Daiwa J Braid multi coloured for around £30 or the Spectra multi coloured for much less www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351973664036

    Excellent video where you been thought you fell off the earth I watch a million videos and rate your stuff so highly I used to chase the big fish but through ill health have scaled back and this is my way of fishing now nothing more than 100grams now if you get the chance could you do something on the light slow jigging micro jigging tai rubbers etc it’s such a enjoyable way to fish

    • @whitbywreckandreeffishing
      @whitbywreckandreeffishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks very much Kevin. I've really struggled to get out and film anything with the poor weather. We've had the worst winter we can remember for rubbish weather. This year alone I've already had to cancel over 120 days, so when the weather is good, I need to be out earning some wages.
      When there is a window with the right conditions, I love to go out and film. Hopefully I'll get out a few more times this year. I'm enjoying fishing successively with lighter and lighter tackle. it's just fantastic fun. Once I've honed my skills a bit more, I'll have a go with the Slow Jigging and Micro Jigs.
      All the best, Andy

      Thanks for taking the time to reply Andy things are getting harder for the likes of yourself with the charter business they are like local pubs vanishing every week there has been several from Hartlepool and only 3 remaining from Sunderland where I fish from

    • @whitbywreckandreeffishing
      @whitbywreckandreeffishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kevinmccourt651I know what you’re saying Kevin. I’m a positive person and always try and make the trips on Sea Urchin a good experience, irrespective of how much we catch.
      I think a lot of the “Freezer Fillers” are not coming so often now, which for me is great, because the majority of the anglers who come aboard now, come for a day’s fishing out at sea and catching is viewed as a bonus.
      If they happen to get a box full, fantastic….but that’s not their primary reason for coming. They enjoy the day for what it is.
      Those are the anglers that I find are still coming regularly and they’re fantastic company. 👍

    Hi ,great video, i just wanted to ask somthing that has confused me, the rod is 14 - 40g but the weights are 3, 4 or 5 oz .I've bought an excel sib and going to try rough ground where I live but the weights plus jig are roughly 120 -150 g how can the rod cope when it states 14 to 40g ? I don't want to break a rod . Thanks

    • @whitbywreckandreeffishing
      @whitbywreckandreeffishing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad you found it useful.
      Every rod blank is different; some have faster tapers than others etc. But to answer the question, the 14-40g rating on this Lure rod is the “casting weight” parameters.
      When fishing from the boat you are just lowering or flicking a short distance with this style of fishing, so there is no compromise.
      I’ve fished this setup in 50m of water and 6oz is definitely the most I would use. After that the Rod wasn’t as responsive and couldn’t move the lure.
      Regards, Andy

    I love this video mate learned a lot from watching it a few times but my question is as the water will start to get a dirty colour.. shads will become not very good but instead of a shad on the end could a dead bait fish be used with a big hook through the chin and out the top of the head but same tactics just with an actual dead fish

    Another informative session Andy! Just one question, Ive have just bought a 10-50g lure rod, but I did notice you were using your lighter rod out of the 2, but with a 4oz lead ? I know you were not casting as such, but its a lump compaired to a 30g lure! Regards Andy

    • @whitbywreckandreeffishing
      @whitbywreckandreeffishing  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Andy. The 10-50g rod is an HTO Lure Game and has a more progressive action than the Saltist rod you see me use.
      As you said, the rods are rated for casting weight. I’ve found that I can work both rods with leads of up to 6oz no problem at all as there isn’t any casting involved. Just a short flick uptide sometimes if the wind is blowing.
      Of the two rods, I prefer the Saltist for this type of work and even working a 6oz lead, it doesn’t feel overloaded. 👍

    Great stuff. Been out on my small sib but might have to get on one of your trips sometime. Is it generally a bit sketchy directly outside the harbour and then settles as you move away, if conditions are good? I turned around and came back in the other day as it was a bit beyond my comfort levels and 6hp outboard, even though generally sea seemed ok up at Sandsend.

    • @whitbywreckandreeffishing
      @whitbywreckandreeffishing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. The water is shallow outside of the harbour on the Rock Top at Whitby, which is where you see the waves breaking sometimes. It depends entirely on which direction the wind and tide are, as well as how much swell there is as to whether Sandsend is ok. Generally a wind which is off land will afford you some shelter at Sandsend. In a small SIB, it wants to be fairly flat. We had the Whitby Lifeboat out to two idiots fishing in a SIB on the five mile ground in thick fog with Northerly winds and swell yesterday. Despite the advice of the RNLI, they thought they were ok and knew better, so stayed out there. As you probably know, sea conditions can change in minutes. Be safe and happy fishing. Regards, Andy
