Westphalia/Cologne/Berg since the government reforms and ideas are different for both they have different playstyles, but, nearly identical starting moves. Very fun nations.
The difference in ton and atmosphere between his Guides and all of his other content is really funny. I used to think he was such a serious, perfectly efficient player. And then I see any other EU4 video he's ever made and he's a loveable complete goof!

I just finished up a Savoy game where I was able to blob into France, form Sardinia-Piedmont and take Naples in the same war, release Byz from the Ottomans and made an Italian empire that stretched from Bordeaux to Alexandria. Was one of my most fun games! I do regret turning from my nice toothpaste blue to the Italian green
Fun Fact: The formable Italy in the game it's not the one formed by Sardinia-Piedmont but is the one formed by Napoleon and directly by him. In fact, in games files its primary culture is Lombard and the capital is Milan, the flag is the exact same of the historical one and its a playable tag in 29th of June 1797. Great guide anyway!

One of my greatest games was as Savoy, where mere months after forming Sardinia-Piedmont I got a lucky PU on Austria and became the Alpine Toothpaste Empire overnight

Wouldn't it be better to vassalize provance and give them corsica in the genoa war so that they can get their cores on naples(through their mission tree) for an easy reconquest if the opportunity arises? Great guide tho!
If you're trying to speed run owning Italy, vassalize Provance and give them Corsica. They'll get core all over Naples, which you can reconquest and have a strong loyal subject.
Savoy is the nation I used to form Italy, it has a special place in my heart
I think espionage is a very underrated idea group -20% AE is super nice .diplomat, siege ability, claim cost, and spy construction. I hope they make rebel supporting better in the future
While Savoy is great on it's own with a great mission tree. I'd rather start as Provence, then culture shift to Piedmontese and form Sardinia Piedmont after you finished their wonderful mission tree to get this great mission tree as well. The best of both worlds. I'm a big fan of collecting a lot of permanent modifiers. Once you do that you'll never want to start as Savoy again.
I really like Savoy; they get a lot of cool missions, however my even more fun pick is saluzzo to form sardinia piedmont; I love the n.i. of saluzzo

If you vassals Provence, you can use their missions to get cores on Naples
Absolute chad move. And if you do it before Provence loses Anjou to someone else and if you are allied to France, you can use favors to get Provence's cores back from France.
Red Hawk u can ask PU Members from allys to give back Cores! they need to have 50+ but u will use the favors from their overlord!
Could you maybe in future say (or just have it show on screen) how many restarts you needed, if any, to have "perfect" starting conditions? I think it would be interesting to see and while i dont think Savoy needs a lot of restarting, i remember i tried following one of your france guides and just giving up after restarting 30+ times because the game just hated me that day and absolutely nothing worked out as shown in your video xD
iirc one of his france guides got unluckily patched out shortly after the video was posted. You just couldnt get the conditions that he got when he was filming. It might be worth going back to an older version to try that france guide again if you had your heart set on it.

Building spy networks to get claims also helps you even if you're about to get claims or cores because having a spy network speeds up AE decay (it'll be better next update)

You can have a similar game as Saluzzo. The main difference is you don't start as Savoy, but more or less become them as your first move. Your ICA and AE reduction let you punch a bit above your weight. The goal in the first war is to full annex Savoy, which causes you to inherit Montferrat and Geneva. This lets you essentially become Savoy, but with stronger ideas. Forming Sardinia-Piedmont gives you Savoy's mission tree, though on both the S-P formation and the Italy formation you should keep Saluzzo ideas. This opening can be tricky, but its literally the first war, and Switzerland is liable to help you out. Once the war is done, you should be able to continue as mentioned in the guide.
As Saluzzo, you should stay catholic and ideally gun for curia controller. Forming Italy is less of a concern compared to forming S-P, and should be done mainly to avoid the occupation of rome modifier. You should also vassalise Provence and give them Corsica in order to get reconquest on all of Naples and save on AE. You can consider going for HRE emperorship, and try to fish for Burgundian Inheritance for the free land and also for the S-P/Savoy mission tree. Overall a very fun campaign which can have you getting absurd AE reduction (try doubling down with espionage ideas and curia controller and age of discovery bonus for an absurd 65% AE reduction...) and strong military bonuses (10% ICA, morale, and 15% movement speed) with CCR, and trade power + steering, and goods produced modifier.
Interesting. I tried Salluzo several times only 1 was successful, this time I became HRE emperor. But I failed to unite Italy... Should I wait for shadow kingdom event to start the first war?
@@alexzero3736 It's been a while, but roughly I'd say: get switzerland and often milan to help initially, declaring very early at mil3/4 to more or less full annex savoy. At the very least border Provence. Nowadays Provence gets abandoned by France and you can grab the land yourself. The tricky part comes after.
It's probably best to chill a bit, suck up to the HRE emperor, and try to get allied with them. Shadow kingdom firing will be bad for you as without the protection of Austria you will be in France's radar. You can eventually make a bid for Emperorship for the bonuses, but it wouldn't be a solid emperor game due to you know... no way to stop the reformation. Try to get the burgundian inheritance early too, if possible. Burgundy does have its eyes on Savoy so they do have cause to be interested in you.
I wouldn't wait for the shadow kingdom though, you'll kill the momentum of your game. Depending on your skill, difficulty level, and how much the AI chooses to fuck you over, its sort of a case of grind out a few restarts until you get a game where you can beat Savoy at the start. Ideal RNG is Savoy cedes the two provinces to Geneva at the start of the game + you get RM and ally on Burgundy - the former means you can full annex Savoy in the first war and get Geneva and Montferrat transferred to you in the process, and the latter is obviously for the Burgundian inheritance.

Maybe I should try a weaker nation. Weakest nations I've played are mid difficulty Naples, Hungary, Aragon - and I usually play Austria, France, Castille, England, and Ottomans,
Release and play as Kiev alongside other nations from Lithuania, its a really good playthrough with lots challenging circumstances(weak economy, strong neighbours)
Play as Lubeck. Being in the Empire and maintaining a trade league with like 12 members will pretty much guarantee no ai will declare war on you.
Have you given Burgundy a crack? They're not "weak" and can be amazingly strong, but they do have a challenging start.
Brandenburg into Prussia is also good.

Savoy did end up becoming Italy after all. The Kingdom of Sardinia and Savoy unified Italy in 1860.
