I haven't listened to this song for about 30 years and for some reason it popped into my head about a week ago. Today I picked up my guitar and thought I'd have a go at it, and lo and behold, here's this lesson. Funny how the universe works sometimes! Thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks!
Howard....been playing since 77.....got to let you know you do a fabulous job and I love your tunes and presentations and pace. Outstanding and you need to hear this and feel proud! cheers !!
Hi Howard. Really started going through your lessons and channel since you posted this lesson for California Man. Really helped me nail the solo and outro lick. Great lessons and song choices. Thank you for what you do.
oh yeah! this is the stuff. great song and a brilliant version by cheap trick. like how they quote the move's "brontosaurus" for the riff after the solo (bridge?).
Hi Howard. If possible can you help me understand the descending and ascending third runs in the solo. I am trying to apply them to a scale. The descending run looks like E Mixolydian until you hit the fifth and you play minor third. I do get that the ascending is chromatic. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
It really is just a Rockabilly type lick... chromatic or semi if you like. It does have a Mixolydian sound as you mentioned (nice over 4 chords) - But I doubt these guys really thought about it, if you know what I mean :-)
I don't know if you remember me or not but thanks to the time that we were together changed my guitar life forever and have had a long career as a decent guitar player I want to thank you from my biggest heart for your patience and understanding of of it all,I play guitar for a living and have had some of the greatest gigs ever and have given back to the craft hundred fold, ionian through ionian hhaa,my last name was different back then Mike the Russian kid hooked us up many thanks Howard ,found you doing this tutorial ,I guess I'm still forever the student and you the teacher, have a good one

Great tune . Rockabilly rift is the coolest ever. Take a look at heaven tonight that's one haunting song and not many covers for that one .
Heaven Tonight is my favorite CT album besides live Budakon (love side A).
