    sure the barkley is hard, but the aspect most people underestimate is the sleep deprivation. Even you are super strong physically, you will get really tired after a 30h period. And then you need to sleep but can´t really because of the cut-off.

    Is there a reason the Barkley 2018 video went private? Miss watching that from time to time!

    Speaking about teaming up along the way, my mate got lost in two races because of teaming up with others who were sure they knew the right path...Keep it up Jamil.

    I need to figure out how to get into the Barkley 100. Are there any tips you could give me in my search for a way in?

    Hey Jamil. I don't know if you know sealskinz. Apparently they have waterproof socks. I've never used them and don't know much about them though.

    Hey jam jam i'm from Germany so i missed the show live (03:00 am or so) 😁
    i have a quick question.
    Why you or other runners didn't choose fellrunning shoes on that course? Just wondering 🤔

    • @runsteepgethigh
      @runsteepgethigh  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you give me an example of one?

    • @polliflo8485
      @polliflo8485 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something like the INOV8 x-talon range. They have 8mm lugs that grip like hell 😁 i love those shoes when you go off trail.
      I think Salomon has something similar in there shoe lineup

      Salamon Speedcross are the chunky ones

    • @polliflo8485
      @polliflo8485 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott Kohlhagen i think i saw a new one from Salomon and they look similar to the INOV8. But anyways i m gona stick with my xtalon 210 and 225 because they give you so much confidence on steep muddy terrain 🗻🤙

      Polli Flo too much chunk for me too, in flat dry Australia!

    Jamil, I heard you mention that you were looking for a lighting solution for fog. From experience, I highly suggest a headlamp or running flashlight that has an intensely fast strobe feature; slow strobe features will not be a suitable solution. I was living in Boulder Canyon during the Boulder Flood of 2013 where we received 21 inches of rain in 5 days. Boulder Canyon was shut down to car traffic, and for a period of time people who lived in the Boulder Canyon were only permitted entry into town (in Boulder) with the understanding they would not be permitted to go back to their homes. As a result, on day 6 (the 1st day of no rain) I was forced to bike to Nederland to purchase groceries for me and my neighbors. I biked up to Nederland during evening light, but didn't return until it was dark and the fog was quite intense at this time. I had the idea to turn my Axium bike light on to it's super fast strobe setting and this seem to cut through the fog remarkably well. I was able to bike down this steep downhill at speeds in excess of 40 mph. Good luck! Let me know if this works well for you.

      Interesting. Thanks for the suggestion. Now only to find some fog to try it in....

    Hey Jam Jam! I live out in Yunnan, China. If you ever come out for the Shangri-la Ultra (goes around the Himalayans skirting Tibet) let me know! I speak Chinese and would be thrilled for a meetup.

    I was wondering, now that you and some others have filmed at least part of the actual course, what is Laz's take on exploring parts of the course throughout the year? I remember you saying that was sort of an unsaid rule of not training on the course to familiarize yourself. Of course parts of the course are off limits besides during the race such as the prison. Thanks.

    • @runsteepgethigh
      @runsteepgethigh  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely off limits.

    • @ThousandMovieMainframe
      @ThousandMovieMainframe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously it is on an honor system then. Laz can't close down the public Frozen Head State Park to runners. The best type of training would have to be replicated in another Tennessee State Park along the Appalachian Mountains. Same type of forest, elevation, and weather (if one trains there often enough in different weather conditions).

    • @runsteepgethigh
      @runsteepgethigh  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can train on the trails in Frozen Head, just not off-trail. Park rules. Doing so would surely ensure that you won't get selected for the race and worse put the entire event in jeopardy.

    Rat Jaw can be yellow jacket, rattlesnake, and briar infested, so viewing it may be preferable to climbing.
    For more interesting family hiking head 40 minutes north to Big South Fork, and hike the Honey Creek Loop, or Twin Arches Loop (~75 minutes from Frozen Head).

    It's a nice solution how to use headlamp in the fog - just wear your headlamp like a belt, on the hips :)
