14x8 VERY NICE!!!

I have a 14 x 5.5 MPX birch shell, bought in 2018, sounds good but has some hardware issues (my current heads are Evans EC reverse dot on top and Remo ambassador hazy on bottom). If you're in a budget it's a decent snare and does the job.

Just bought a used MPX 14 x 5.5 Maple Black to start my Rock-a-billy build. Just have to tune the snare for that 50's sound, which may result in changing the head for something thicker.

If you had compared with the original MPX snares , I don't think you would have favoured them so much. They had some birch snares and a few maple snares made of just pure maple. I have a steel 5.5x14 and the birch 5.5x14 and they are both really well made.
Unfortunately , mapex has gone the cheap route. If you are looking for quality snare drums for a decent price , go for the original MPX snare drums and not these cheap knockoffs of their own brand !

Bull.... I've got the new mpx hybrid 14x8 ... I switched out the hoops... In the wires with new heads... The snare drum sounds just as good as any top notch snare drum..... Beautiful sounding snare

@@stykstykman7354 That's a lot of work and expense to bring it up to decent. all i had to do was change heads and the snare wire and both were good as any other quality snare drum. mapex have taken a serious downgrade in quality by all the expense you had to put into these used to be great drums. go find the first series , they are way better !
