    I went to fully detailing inside of a garage and doing it occasional on-location detail maybe three or four of those a month but mostly all of my clients have me pick up or they drop off their vehicles to me. The winter months are rough but then I also do some Automotive work such as brakes and oil changes and maybe some suspension. But the winter up here here and Peoria Illinois is rough.

    Phil, I use running gloves and than I use the 8 mil rubber gloves over them, I wear size large in running gloves, than I buy extra large rubber gloves so it's able to fit over the running gloves, running gloves are thin enough to keep your hands warm, work really well, my hands don't freeze, just an FYI

    Watkins (hot tub manufacturer) makes wonderful lil circulation pumps along with obviously electric water heaters. If you keep a few hundred gallons at a constant 100 degress it will also keep the rest of the truck/trailer quite warm. And the best part is no risk of fire with all them chemicals inches to feet away from a space heater. Can be done for under 500 bucks....look into it.

    Having the joy of working in Minus 15 deg average (Celsius) = (5°F to -4 °F). Optimum No Rinse is my go to! One panel at a time :) ...cant call it a day in my region as that means call back in 6 months. Finland is harsh. Only the tough and smart detailers survive :) Another tip I have is wearing normal woolly gloves and over them some disposable plastic gloves. This way your hand remain warm and dry when doing the wet stage.

    great video Phil -- yes detailing my daily driver in Scotland over winter not easy (but like to keep the road salt off), but highly recommend Sealskinz gloves, keeps hands dry and warm, while you wash the cars, and good grip on equipment. Never thought of firing up the car to generate heat, normally keep engine bay cool when working in there! Mask is similar to what the guy uses on Red Details channel, when doing polishing/ceramic coatings.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I thought about those sealskin gloves. How’s the dexterity like if I wanted to use a clay bar? We always clean the engine bay first and dress it then turn the car on to heat it up and everything dries in there. We do the same thing in summer time and run the AC. 😎👍🏼

    This was an awesome video with a lot of great tips!
    I'm not a pro detailer. But when I'm able to be takeing out my hose and the PW it's washing time LOL. Have both been playing soccer and coaching when I had to stop playing cause of an injury. The way how you dress and layering clothes gets very important to keep warm. I live in Sweden in the southern parts. It's just about around the freezing point during the days and we can get times where it's no snow down here in the southern parts.
    The underware with the compression abilities is great. And then comes to the next layer and it depends a little on how cold it is and what amount of the hard work you do. If get a lot of sweat it's usually a good thing to use a synthetic athlete clothes that's tight and has the function to draw out the wet sweat. Then you want the next layer to absorb as much sweat as possible and that's not so good with synthetic clothes. So then like the hoodie you where is perfect and a high percentage of cotton is a great choice for for this. If you don't sweat as much and want something warmer try something made of wool to have instead or over the cotton clothing. When you now have the moisture and the out from your body. You have a very bad insulation and the wind goes through and get this moisture cold and you still freezing. The outer layer should be of a breathing wind stopping material. This makes the moisture to evaporate from the what holds it up and your heat from your body is warming up everything inside of this insulation layer. Here you can use just like a windbreaker or a more of a thicker padded winter jacket with the breathing and wind stopping material is important. If you look at the offering the coaching jackets has in outside sports like football for an example you can find an awesome quality of the function from these clothes. Or the thinner ones when you are more active like cycling or running breathing and wind stopping material and also rain proofed or rain resistance from them. The same is with the boots and head gears. Hope it's understandable as english is not my first language LOL. But awesome that you took this up as it's very important to keep warm and healthy. Also have a second and maybe even a third setup of head gears and clothes and boots extra with you as a mobile detailer anything can happen and sometimes you can get to wet and need to be changing your whole setup or parts of it. Maybe get one of those boots dryers where you have a hose stucked in the shoes and this is over night so they are dry and maybe even an extra pair to switch to at lunch and you nice warm shoes to put on.
    I have competed with target shooting with pistols and guns. They have like a little metall box that fits great to grip around and is easy to have in your pocket. Inside of this metall box you a piece which you light on fire and it gets to be glowing. This gets inside of the box and heats this up nicely and is just awesome to grab and hold when possible to get up the warmth in your hands. Think that there is ones that are battery powered now. Look at hunting shops and or where they sells for sports shooting.
    That blowdryer for dogs mostly but for other animals I have been so close to buy many times LOL. Looks like a great product and have only heard great things about it from those that has it as a blowdryer for vehicals. Great tips! The brand Bigboi seems to be great ones as well and here in Sweden a notch under the price of the Master Blasters. The Master Blaster has released not so long ago a new blowdryer for vehicals that seems to be of great value too. Have not seen or heard much about it.
    Sorry Phil for all of the text I write. But it's hard to describe thoroughly what I mean sometimes and I go on LOL

    Off the subject, but I noticed the triangle shaped pad with the long handle. I have a similar one used for cleaning inside windshield. But it has a permanent thin pad and doesn’t do a good job. Yours looked to have a replaceable cover. Where can I get one like yours or at least a replaceable cover?
    I have severe arthritis and have a difficult time cleaning the inside of the windshield. I have never seen a good method. Yes, I have tried the “back to the glass” method. Ouch!!
    P.S. I love your channel.

      @MirandaDetailing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Yes I do use that when needed. However I really don’t use the towel part that is on there. I drape my glass cleaning towel over it and just use it to get into those tight areas with my usually towel. I leave the replacement towel on there just so it grabs and holds on to the glass towel that use over it. It works well

    Interesting (and prophetic?) tidbit about wearing masks for long periods of time... ;) I have some masks from 2018 that have that exact same warning about wearing face masks for too long, and like you said, when you're dehydrated, it's far more problematic and unhealthy for you. But short periods of time, especially to keep warm in denser air, oh yeah!
    I'm gonna keep a look out for that water heater. That's pretty damn cool, and thanks for the link!

    Nice mask.... "Phil, I am your father". 😆 Great info. Thanks! By the way, Ive put 2 layers of my new TW ceramic coating on my car and man! Talk about water sheeting! Snow here doesn't even stick to my car. We've had over 5 inches in 4 days and my car was parked outside just for the rest to see if it would stick or how it would react to the coating. My car was the only car in the outside parking lot with no snow! I do usually park in underground heated garage but Damn! Awesome stuff. Hope it lasts as long as they claim. I'm waiting for your video on it.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Good question. If you have a pressure washer that can take warm/hot aster I’m sure that could work. But most pressure washers can’t take hot water above 80 degrees or so.

      So I am thinking about this one, bit.ly/3molLYD
      It's not a "hot water" pressure washer, its meant for warm/hot water up to 180 Degrees, which is like really hot bath water. it would be perfect for mobile or shop based guys like us. plus its way more affordable,

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its not as bad as we had thought, That was one worry of ours. It does limit us a little, but its ok, because some of the areas that we hated going like downtown or in parking garages is now eliminated, we always tell the customer that we have a trailer and need space and level ground, for this entire year it has been great.

    I'm in the north suburbs of Chicago. I detailed the interior of a car in 20 degree weather a week ago. It's really difficult just to be outside when it's so cold. What I did that really helped was take a LOT of breaks for a long time to warm back up again. If you stay out in the cold for too long you'll get worn out and really tired. I only took about 4 hours of working time to 3 hours of breaks. I ate a nice hot meal in between it all too. I think that helped motivate me a little more too. It looked pretty good afterwards.
    Also, I didn't go crazy and try to do a perfect job. When it's that cold out the customer will simply have to understand that it's not practical to be working outside all day. When you don't have a garage to work in, it can be very difficult.

      I think you do a great job and are professional but you need to be more organized with content, topics, key messages and learnings for the audience, preferences you have, be specific. I’m a fan of Pan The Organizer, you need to product your videos as if you have a tv show. AmmoNYC is over the top, folks can relate to him. So I think you have the right ingredients to be super successful. Good luck!

      Thanks. I understand. But also don’t have a ton of time and effort to put into the video like I would want. I’m a detailing primarily...maybe that’s why my videos are the way they are. If and when I actually make some income on TH-cam I may have time to invest more into the videos. But right now this is who I am and what I do. I love Pan’s videos also but we are all different and have different ways of showing, explaining, editing, and so on. But thanks for the advice, I’ll keep doing my best.

      I’d recommend take a hour on the week to brainstorm with your wife on what you can share with viewers . Comparing products you use, techniques for cleaning, maybe she prefers doing things a certain way, maybe getting some before and after looks at the car, customer reactions, maybe you have a list of things ever to do when detailing, or maybe you made mistakes earlier in your career and now you do things differently. Most important is that you seem like a great guy so people will watch and listen. Perhaps it turns into another revenue stream. When I see the bottles in the tow, I’m wondering if they’re labeled, why they’re in a particular order, if you have 5 waxes what makes you choose one over the other?
      Again, great work and good luck!

      Thank you! Now that is great advice!! I will certainly work on that. However please let me give you some advice also. Your advice in this last post was excellent, however your very comment was very trolling. It was nothing but negative and it actually made me feel bad, like I should give up, yes I’m probably sensitive to it but that’s my prerogative, it’s my personality. If you had started with the great advice you gave in the last comment I would have felt encouraged and super excited to make more videos. Please remember everyone’s channel is different and I will never conform just because a few people want to my videos go in a different direction. I am always thinking of better ways to create content but I don’t view myself as being great on camera or a great teacher so maybe that’s why people try to give advice. But advice can also be subjective and sometimes counterintuitive. I have had Professional advice from other Detailers and detailing companies to actually do the opposite of what you mentioned in your initial comment. To keep things real and not so produced. So I will certainly take your advice on the last comment because it’s actually helpful. I wish I could speak to you in person because it’s difficult to convey these ideas on text. I hope you understand.
