Who do you think thought this bill out? The ANC was in power for 30 years,
Angie, the previous ANC Minister for Education is responsible for the mess education is in. Parliament pushed this bill through in the 2 weeks before the election. That meant it had to get signed or sent back to Parliament for more debate. Guess what happened…

Very interesting to sign in a bill that essentially bans home schooling while there's a shortage of teachers/ a number of teachers also being laid off, as well as a plethora of school closures around the country.

The Bela Bill was voted in prior to the elections, where some parties were against, the ruling ANC all voted for. You are aware pre May 2024 the ruling party did not negotiate, it was their way or the highway. There was never any healthy negotiations. But now with GNU, they can meet and discuss for the first time. That's healthy.

      @thamimahlangabeza6639 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@anticorrup-g5o even so, your argument doesn't hold water. If you were confident that what's in the BELLA Bill is irregular and unconstitutional, you would have done exactly the same thing you have done with the NHI Bill; take it on legal review and let that be the end of it.
I think the ANC is losing the plot in humouring the petulance of the DA.
And unfortunately, the DA thinks they are playing their cards right by pushing the Ramaphosa's ANC the way they do, because it is beholden to them. But what they are failing to notice is that those who voted for the ANC (and those who did not vote because they were being spiteful to the ANC) will rethink their votes come the next elections.
And guess what, their vote will not automatically be a boon for the DA. My advice; DA must learn that it will not win all the battles and be happy with that for a bigger picture.

Contrary to popular belief, I believe the BELA Bill is a positive step forward. I'm surprised by the strong reactions it's generated, especially considering many people seem to misunderstand its key provisions instead they just making noise online.
The Bill aims to improve the overall quality of education in South Africa. It empowers schools to make decisions about language and admission policies, giving them more autonomy. Also, it requires children to start formal schooling at age 5, ensuring a consistent foundation for education.
To address existing challenges in the education system, the Bill tackles issues like disparities in resources and standards.
Overall, I believe these changes are beneficial for South African students and will contribute to a stronger education system.

The Afrikaners feel that their language is under threat.
It has been suggested that Afrikaans medium schools may become dual medium Afrikaans/English Schools.
Personally, I think that would be intelligent use of existing facilities.
But then I’m English speaking and my language isn’t under threat…
I think what will happen is that a lot of Afrikaans medium Schools will become private to retain their cultural identity.

She is the Minister for Basic Education and her opinion is important. The previous Education Minister, whose brainchild the bill was, will be remembered for introducing the 30% pass mark. What a legacy!

You seem to be forgetting that the ANC was in power for 30 years and basically destroyed South Africa, including the education system. The BELA Bill was put together by the previous ANC Minister of Education, not the present one. There was opposition to the bill but because there were no opposition Cabinet Ministers, the DA was powerless to stop it. Now there is a DA Minister of Education and she doesn’t agree with the Bill as it stands.
The DA has always opposed this Bill.
