    880 WCBS sometimes comes in Daytona Beach & Jacksonville, Florida mixing in with WXBN 880 kHz Miami, Florida. There is 880 kHz WYKO San Juan, Puerto Rico & also can be heard on good conditions. WCBS 880 also is on 101.1 FM HD 2 & what will they put there? ESPN Radio in New York is on 98.7 FM currently & will it revert back to Kiss 98.7 WRKS? Many AM stations went off the air down here in the south. FCC announced few years ago there expanding the FM down to 82.1 MHz but no new updates. I was in the NYC area (Queens & Manhattan) a few weeks ago & never got anything on 640 kHz just bleed over from 660 kHz -Cheers!

    Any updates on the future of kyw newsradio in Philadelphia? They have issues too in terns of their format and the cost to run it .

    • @640amthemix
      @640amthemix  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. They run similar to how WCBS 880 is run and by the same owners. What you’re seeing and hearing in NY could occur nation wide and could be a big loss in information choice for the public . Audacy claims low AD revenue which could be the case but I also suspect high electricity costs as many stations in Europe are closing down across the spectrum, LW, MF and FM they cite high cost of electricity and declining AD revenue as well due to migration to digital format.

    Just terrible news. losing this iconic station is a gut punch & is almost as painful when WABC 77 changed formats. at least the iconic call letters were left intact & we still have cousin Brucie on Sat. nights. to get rid of the iconic call letters is stupid as well. what I don't get is, if good carma didn't want to pay anymore to lease 98.7, why are they willing to lease 880? unless they bought 880 outright from audacy, what now happens with 1050? will 880 be NY & 1050 be national as it is now? what will be on the 98,7 signal now? PS. I believe the signal of 640 AM from NYC on my car radio is a station from Atlantic City, NJ.

    • @640amthemix
      @640amthemix  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All questions to be answered when the dust settles we will see who ends up where and with what call letters. What I can’t figure is 880 was making money and not in your typical “declining revenue / higher cost” reason for its demise . As for 640AM The Mix, thank you for trying to tune in but of you check out my video on the “transmitter site” it’s merely an FCC Part 15, which means low power, under a watt. So while I do transmit it it’s hard to hear and I try and try an increase its exposure by moving the transmitter into different locations. Thanks for the comments and watching (and trying to listen) I appreciate it.

    WCBS has been on 880 since 1941, when it was WABC (unrelated to the current WABC). The WCBS calls were adopted in 1946, and the all-news format began in 1967.

      Thanks for the update . I’ve been working on some more content on 880. I feel this is a huge loss to AM broadcast around the country and at times globally when conditions are right . Thanks for the comment

  • @640amthemix
    @640amthemix  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for the comment. As for 640AM The Mix transmitter it's a FCC certified part 15 so you know that means low low power. I try and compensate by moving around. You can check the transmitter on prior videos. As for ESPN that's a good question not sure whats going with the FM station. I'll try and keep your posted . Thanks for watching.

      Hello, I'm in NYC. Could you give us a list of where you broadcast at any given moment, plus the times you broadcast? I would like to catch you on my radio, but I can't if I don't know where you are. If you operate within Part 15 parameters, then you're legal to transmit.

      @@jeanroddenberry6433 I appreciate the support. I’ll try and put something out when I do but it’s mainly for fun so no set times etc. Yes it’s part 15 and legal but that’s the inherent problem to be legal mean to be under 1 watt with a 9ft antenna max so you would have to be extremely close almost zero possibility which what stirred me to create the channel. If the FCC up the power limits it would be better. Thanks again.

    • @jeanroddenberry6433
      @jeanroddenberry6433 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@640amthemix According to Wikipedia, if you broadcast on a college campus, you might be able to increase your wattage and still remain in the legal limit for Part 15. You might want to look into that. Of course, you would need permission from the college itself for that.

    What AM radio should do is sell more airtime to third parties than they currently do. They should also play more music. I have no doubt that 770 WABC brought in Cousin Brucie on Saturday night, along with Tony and Vinnie, to increase listenership.
    The same should be done with under-performing FM stations.

    • @640amthemix
      @640amthemix  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree with you. They must think outside the box to survive. Many shortwave stations have long sold airtime and it’s brining a few interesting show. I also believe it’s time to open a part of the AM band for low power broadcasters. Thanks for your comments.

      @@640amthemix Low power AM would be ideal, but the FCC at this particular time is extremely inflexible about issuing new licenses, either for AM or FM. Unfortunately.
