Executive producer Linda Gottlieb and headwriter Michael Malone took over at this point and the production values and writing greatly improved over time.Everything about the show was awful from 1989 to July of 1991
@@loren7551 I disagree on some/most- The show was utterly awful from Badderly (summer of 1990) on! I loved 1989. I did love the new lighting and many of the sets. I despised the background music and most of the storylines during the Gottlieb era minus- Marty/Marty's Rape, Alex/Carlo, Bo/Nora, Dorian/Viki, Viki and her alters (even though Gottlieb was done) And I actually always liked Reverend Andrew. But there is no doubt that the show was extremely well written and was often called the most "literate" soap on the air at that point. And it looked and felt classy. Upon rewatch all these years later, Gottliebs OLTL was (overall) an utter BORE.
@@upontheventura I think the storylines from 1989 like Eterna,Mendora and the baby switch were awful.Soap Opera Digest named it the most disappointing show of 1989.I agree with their opinion.OLTL won a best writing emmy for 1993.I liked most of the storylines during Malone's writing tenure. My favorite period of OLTL is the Paul Rauch/Peggy O'Shea period from 1985 to the middle of 1987.The show was so well written when O'Shea was headwriter.Lots of intense and exciting storylines
Im rewatching 1988 OLTL and a gossip column was about to reveal Tina made a donation to the gallery Cord got his pictures accepted in, so she tells the guy that Asa and Renee are eloping in exchange for keeping quiet. Looks like Tina is exposing Asa again, as he deserves for being so foul to her!
It's amazing how _none_ of the Buchanans realized that Alex was unstable. Dorian was still one of the few people in Llanview who saw Alex's instability.
38:40...Great foreshadowing there! Asa carelessly knocked Tina's picture over in his tantrum even though he didn't know that it was Tina was ratted him out to the press, LOL.
The episodes are just not for me! Gottlieb clearly said I HATE THIS BACKGROUND MUSIC! WE WILL USE AS LITTLE MUSIC AS POSSIBLE UNTIL WE BRING IN MINE (which uniformly sucked minus the earlier themes post 1993- Blair #1 had a VERY cool theme/variations on it- It was fantastic actually.
Yeah, that's what it seems like. They are using the same 3 cues over and over. A few of the Gottlieb era music-cues I love, but alot of it is garbage. The Rauch era music aged much better than Gottlieb stuff (definitely not the effect LG thought she was having LOL)
@@dpodsful Exactly- i will point out the Blair theme when she starts- a lot of it was played during the early mystery with Addie- it was excellent. It was keyboards and I recall the ever present Gottlieb PANFLUTE.
No, the root is that Dorian married Viki's father and Viki resented sharing her dad's fortune with her stepmum. Also Dorian saw early on that her stepdaughter was unstable and that something was "off" about Viki, AKA the DID. That's mostly what fueled their long conflict.
Thank God executive producer Linda Gottlieb and headwriter Michael Malone took over the show at this point. The show will finally get back on the right track.OLTL sucked big time from 1989 to July of 1991.During this period there were so many awful storylines like Eterna,Gabrielle baby switch,Crown Jewels Of Mendora,Austin/Sarah rape,Badderly,Viki's paralysis, etc. The production values sucked too.Horrible, murky lighting and orange make-up on the actors faces. The show was wretched and unwatchable.
You are literally copying and pasting the words of SOD when they called OLTL the most disappointing show of 1989. I am sorry 1989, was fantastic compared to overall boredom that ensued later on. Gottlieb's era is not nearly as good upon rewatch, whereas OLTL from the 1980's is far better upon rewatch, and I include Eterna.
@@dpodsful I did not LOVE OLTL post the Michael Grande murder mystery (spring 1990) but I certainly liked it! and I agree, overall, the Gottlieb era was boring AF with many dud storylines, and WAY too many dud new characters- especially the supporting ones- Suede, Luna's brothers.. I can barely sit though the episodes here on YT. I was checking out early 1993- its really, really boring. (And honestly, I was never a Todd fan- I was glad that OLTL finally had a breakout male character- but he was a rapist. And frankly, he did nothing for OLTL's ratings during he Gottlieb era. The show did briefly hit # 3 during the Rape trial- but that was it)
@@belinda8780 We have a rough "slow" time ahead of us in remaining 1991 time. I don't like the Gottlieb regime, but i'll keep watching and hope that the uploads continue! :)
Alex and her evil saxophone 🎷
😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😅
12:01 Tina alway looked stunning with any hairstyle
I just love Dorian's fire, honesty and streetwise brashness.
Cassie is a drip. Leann is a drip.
Never seen that woman not crying/whining through her whole tenure as Cassie
Alex Alex Alex he doesn’t want you lovely now move on to something bigger and better lol. Cheers for the episode appreciate it mate
I’m enjoying watching Cassie and Bo but knowing already what’s to come is another story
Per the usual, I would be the only one who cares- But there is some serious transitional new cinematic lighting going on here!!!!! I love this stuff!!

18:18 Bwahahaha gotta love Joey!
Cassie: “no excuses.” Proceeds to make excuses. Their relationship is so unprofessional.
7:08 Asa Buchanan admitting he was wrong? Hell has frozen over!
They aren't orange! LOL

Those were still good years to me. Right now it's very slow almost boring especially after Gabrielle left at the end of April
