This is a good video. I like this firestick idea. I am addicted to my two Buddipole antennas. I called Eastern Scotland and few weeks ago from South Portland Maine. I am very new to this hobby and love it. Thank you for sharing your time with us and be well.
Great Video Walt! I love that radio. In fact, I have been using my QT80 for the ARRL 10-Meter Band contest this weekend. I'm getting close to 90 watts on SSB and crushing through pile-ups. I am so glad you recommended it. I love my Xeigu G90 but you need to make quick contacts during contests. I'm not a contest guy, preferring non-contest DXing. However, today was a breeze and tomorrow looks promising. We had a bad storm here in the SF Bay Area including a tornado. Our house had a large part of a tree hit it. I ran out, checked the damage, shored up the tree until the contractors come tomorrow morning, and immediately got back on the radio. We're used to this type of thing where we live. I'm still trying to figure out the radio's controls, etc. Thanks again for your effort...73...Hugh...KN6KNB
I kicked myself for not logging my first long distant contact to Paraguay from South Dakota! i did make up with it to Argentina and Japan! i was able to make contact to the same guy twice in Japan twice in one week! that was awsome.
Local HF NVIS antenna. I call this a HEFRW, horizontal end fed random wire, antenna. 33’ driven element, 16.6’ counterpoise with 9:1 Unun. Antenna mounted on plastic electric fence post extended 3’ above 4’ aluminum fence horizontal/ parallel to the fence top. Choke at Unun connection. Space is limited in my yard. I am trying to achieve local HF via NVIS to do JS8Call and P2P Winlink. First time testing today. JS8Call was rather good on 20m and 40m. I don’t yet know its performance, QSO were 300-600 miles and reception was better than my Coastal 20 vertical. Untuned SWR on 20m was 3-4 and varied a little more and less on other band. G90 0:03 handled this very well. I thought I would pass this on to you in case you want to try one. Mounting this on the fence was a last minute innovation or screw up. Always enjoy your video. I love seeing you and Allison together. You married up.
Great 10m prop vid! I noticed that a fellow by the name of Salty Walt made the QSO Today podcast show! Headed over there now to see what this fellow is all about. Thanks for your effort sir Walt! 73 es gud DX!
Hey Walt . Thanks for cheering me up a bit. Just had to pay a $1,300 bill to get my 15 year old cars annual certificate so I'm in need of some inspiration. 73 M7BLC
Hey Walt brilliant video mate nice to hear you on today, hope that lovely Alison is doing well and okay as well mate, looking forward to the next one mate 73s
Great fun Walt ! That QT 80 is a great radio ! It has been quite cold in Boston NY. down to 6F overnight. Has the car door freeze up. and windshield. I keep rain-x inside in a spray bottle just for that. worked great ! Last I was out I jot Japan on 10 meters . 10/11/12 wide open lately ! That was done on my QT 60 into a RM Italy KL 506 300 watt amp runnin 200 watt PEP on battery . DX commander pole in the snow with UNUN . had like 2 HR fun than got too cold . Hope to POTA on 10/12 meter soon. Was wondering How warm does that QT 80 get on back heatsink ? My QT 60 stays cool . Only heats up FT8 if power up. and on long. 73
I really enjoy your videos. Im fairly new to your channel. I assume I'm not the first person to ask you this. Do you run a CB and / or HAM base out of your residence?
Unless you edited it out, your contacts were hello, this is where I am, where are you, and goodbye. While listening around on the bands I notice that there are fewer and fewer people who are looking to "chew the rag". It seems to be about logging the contact and moving on. Still better than digital (in my opinion) where my radio and computer talks to your radio and computer while I am eating lunch. That is something I will never really understand.
I edit a lot out to make the video a quick one showing my contacts. I also do put every contact I make in my videos, just a few of them. The clip from the QSO I had with the gentleman in Texas was actually a rather long ragchew, I just clipped out a small part.
Good morning Walt, since your counter poise is going to the South and at least the majority of your contacts were to the South does that mean that antenna is directional?

Hope you are enjoying 10M, Walt. The MUF down here is about 23MHz, sad. 73 Bruce VK2EM.
Yes you're going into that summer period of absorption on 10 meters. I remember June here this past year. Same thing.
QT80 is an amazing radio. Is it the best radio for 2024? What do you guys think?
There might be a few stations on 10 today.
hahaha yep

Walt, how is it on 15 and 12 meters? Is it the same power output? 73, N1XXU

What battery are you using with the QT80 and are you running at full power?
I was running full power using the Jeep's battery
