Hi Martin! Its me, Nico Zañartu. Just wanted to tell you that actually we are working on Grammostola genus here in Chile, so hopefully we’ll have news for you out there in a not so far future ✌🏻

The G Porteri I had 20 years ago was absolutely gorgeous. In the 3 yrs I had her, she molted 3 times. She was already pretty big when I got her, but the pet store also sold slings, so not sure about origin. I ended up donating her to a sixth grade class in a school in Montecito Calif. She was super friendly but very good hunter catching crickets in midair before they touched the ground! I starting feeling sorry for the crickets, plus the noise at night in my room. Too bad I didn't know other things to feed her since there was literally no info around back then. So it is really great what you do on this channel. Thank you
Hi sir martin, i am planning to also document some wild tarantulas here in the philippines! (maybe after this lockdown) inspired from your works! Been a subscriber since like 100 plus subscribers!
I honestly believe porteri and rosea to be one species. Over the years i have had 8 individuals including an adult female that I have had for 18 years. She has had every colour vriation from from the rose red to grey between moults.
seeing the vast range in Chile with various different landscapes, microclimates and altitude levels I'm pretty sure there is more than one species... the coloration is not something which matters for species delimination
@@birdspiders so do we think that the two species can go through all the colour forms but depending on which of the two species, they will have one or the other as their main or more common colour form?
I believe my juvie female is a G rosea rcf at least that is what she was sold to me as. I know she is a beautiful rose/rust color when she molts, almost like fire. She's a fiery lil lady to🤣. Tyfs God bless you
I have a Porteri sling. For a while after the imports stopped, I wasn't seeing Rosehairs offered for sale. But I guess some breeding programs have been successful, and they have been available in the US at reasonably cheap prices. The thing about my sling is that it is a little timid. I have to prekill the food items for it to eat. At least it does eat.
I have three G roseas none of them are mature yet but I know I have at least one male and one female so I hope I will be able to breed them in future even tho they are very common I love this species and it would be amazing to make 100 new little spiders
I remember when my local reptile shop used too sell adult female G porteri for £15 now the online dealers are selling 1 too 2cm slings for £25 an adult female would cost way over £100 now that's if you could even find someone who's selling one gorgeous Ts.
@@birdspiders yeah I don't think there a good begginer T because off how slow they grow and when there adults there notorious for going on fasts where they don't eat for months and months a beginner would think that there was something wrong because they are not eating brilliant video and a gorgeous T.
Seems that people have different experiences with coco fiber I actually use it to make more stable substrate mixtures The only reason I don’t use it exclusively is because of the moisture evaporation I do have one Asian arboreal on coco peat but her enclosure has a drainage layer with standing water in it so it never dries out (I do see a lot of you-tubers (like Petco from the dark den) that don’t keep standing water in the drainage layer making it completely obsolete)
Hey! Did you do a video with tarantula kat where you talked about if pokies are actually communal or not (something related to this)? If so where can we find that video? Awesome and a very informative video btw! 🤓
Hi Martin👋 I was just wondering if you could include the growthrate on each sp. in future videoes? And allsow their adult size😀 and maybe a researchvideo on Cyriopagopus sp. Hati hati😀👋🇳🇴
Awesome stuff. There was a dwarf species that used to be imported as G.rosea in the late 90s. Do you happen to know which species this was? I was under the impression that it was G.porteri. Doing a web search I could not find this species. Just curious, thanks for the great content
I got a concepions by mistake. I though i was getting a rosea and someone with better knowledge then me asked me to check the legs and was then confirmed as concepion. Pretty cool mistake. But very hard T to find a MM😂
I just dont know white one is this female the person I bought it from told me she had a pink toe one looking at her I knew she wasnt a pink toe i came and researched and found out it Chilean rosea but she portiri
yes you can do that, almost everyone does it and there are no negative side effects detected as far as I know. Ideally you go with specimens from different eggsacks if you can, but if not - also no problem, not like in mammals and reptiles where the offspring have bad deformations.
thanks for the reply someone identify the scorpions i hope that i can talk to you in private so i can share some possible new specimens here in our country
It's just a shame. If novice keepers started breeding them from the start we should have the more quantities of both species in the pet trade in a form of baby slings. Even more in captivity than their wild parents that were collected legally from the wild decades ago. Problem with most novice keepers is most of them are only after that wow factor with absolutely no interest whatsoever in breeding these magnificent spiders. Very shameful I tell ya.
I would reckon the hobby material is a complete mess of hybrids that will never again untangle. Maybe it'd be best to just call all specimens in captivity "Grammostola sp." and call it a day until the wild populations have been sorted out and properly classified.
there will always be a more precise reclassification than the ones years or decades ago... let's see what will happen (: lets appreciate them in nature and make sure future generations have the chance to meet them in person too 🎉

Thanks for all that you do! My first t was a G. rosea sling and she is wonderful. It has been very satisfying watching her grow, slow as it has been.

there were a lot of spiderlings from wild caught ones available, but true breedings within the hobby are very rare sadly

yes - they are only rarely captive bred, definitely not a beginner tarantula

The G POTERI are already getting expensive in the UK 🇬🇧 a grown female was £130 never have they been that much
thats what happens when breeding is rare
Any vids coming on holothele sp Dominican republic? No one covers these.

my rosea is quite redish that it can be easily distinguished by looks

sadly I dont, never heard of it before.... would be great to see a picture if you remember
@@birdspiders I found it. Paraphysa scrofa (now Phrixotrichus scrofa). The reclassification name threw me off.

Got mine for 20 in germany have it for 6 jears
true they were readily available back then
Listen I have a grammotsla rosea but it looks like the grammastola portiri
g.rosea has a pink form?
maybe
Hi Martin, will tarantulas from the same egg-sac breed? (and how bad is inbreeding?) I suspect / guess if they would breed it won't be a good idea.
yes you can do that, almost everyone does it and there are no negative side effects detected as far as I know.
Ideally you go with specimens from different eggsacks if you can, but if not - also no problem, not like in mammals and reptiles where the offspring have bad deformations.

not sure - some individuals are huge!

I want to start about tarantula or scorpion what is the best scorpion and tarantula for me as begginer
can you identify some scorpions too? i need some help with a specimen
I can give it a try but would lead you to some knowledgable people on that topic
thanks for the reply someone identify the scorpions i hope that i can talk to you in private so i can share some possible new specimens here in our country
Hi Martin,
basically, knowing where Grammostola species comes from would help identify the genus?
it would help identify the species and their distribution range, yes
Schizopelma tv brought me here too .
Indonesia subtitle please
i want to see where are the IRMINIA'S natural habitat
I too want to see Psalmopoeus irminia in the wild! Hopefully one day (:
