    I also ride the T7. I am 174 cm in height. I gained some weight; so I am now at around 68 kg. Used be be 60 kg. I have no issue riding it at the standard height. I put on Yamaha's mesh seat cover for extra comfort. I can paddle the bike with my both legs.

    I think the best comment about this bike is “ it feels light as a feather until it doesn’t “ . The problem I find with mine is it’s so nice at highway speeds and even on dirt . However when you find yourself in a situation anywhere , even at the gas station . That high center of gravity suddenly becomes a monster that you can’t control . I hate to say it but I’m actually a little gunshy of even riding it anymore .

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that fits all bikes though doesn't it? All bikes have a 'tipping' point where they become unmanageable unless they are featherweights and even then you're risking injuring yourself trying to hold up 120-140 kg. Obviously it's more noticeable on the tall ADVs and similar, with the more top heavy nature you mention, but there's no escaping it.

If you I have camber downward on your left hand leg side it means you need to get your right foot down and use front break and throttle, a bit harder to have great control. I test ride one recently and thought it was a great bike and handles well, does make me a bit more nervous filtering on camber at slow speed but I did ride with running shoes and not my adventure boots. I'm 178 tall (5ft 9") and around 90kg, how do you think I would be for seat height on the T7, I will only be riding on road, probably have panniers on one if I get one, I think I would be ok, but never sat on one of these before.
    As a reference I used to ride a 2006 V-strom 1000 without any problems at all.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's pretty similar to me height-wise, so I'd have thought you'd be ok, if your inseam is also similar at 32 inch or so. I was usually wearing my ADV boots on the T7 so that adds a bit of height however. I found the bike very manageable, but my Dad who is a similar height but shorter legs struggled in comparison, although I think with the taller bikes it is something to get used to.

      Inseam length is probably a better figure for comparison, I'm 32 inch and it was ideal, but the shorter your inseama the more of a challenge it could potentially be if you can't reach the round or aren't confident in some conditions.

  • @xlthumper

    It was at the Toronto bike show this year. My first impression was short seat height, I was flat footed and bent knee alot. The big issue was the right side. My running shoes were on the exhaust pipe. And the seat was crazy uncomfortable. I wanted this bike to replace my 06 KTM 640 Adventure. But I will keep my bike a little longer.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really, was it a version with the lowering link and low seat? 880mm seat height isn't going to have many riders with a bent knee, but I think that brings it down to 845mm. That's a decent bit shorter than the 640 at 935mm of course, so it can be a bit of a shock trying something different to what you're used to. I didn't notice any issues with my adventure boots touching the exhaust, and found the seat comfortable considering it's very low profile/minimalist, but then it compares very well against the DRZ400E in that department.

    • @xlthumper
      @xlthumper 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MotoJournoKris it was the standard height version, and yes very different from my 640. I ride ball of my foot and the heal of my running shoe is fully on the heat shield and it slightly raises my foot. I'm 6 foot 1 and a 10.5 boot. I will still do a test ride just to make sure it wasn't some weird bike show fluke. And I am sure someone will make a seat for it. But I did do a yamaha website build, with the luggage skid plate And hand warmers it's very pricey. I think in the end I will just keep my 640 as I just rebuilt the motor. Was just hoping to go a little newer of a bike.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xlthumper Oh interesting, I'm the same boot size, but I have to admit I wasn't doing much riding with the balls of my feet on the pegs except standing up, but I'm not all that used to doing it on bikes with the grippier off-road pegs. One thing I've heard a lot from different sources is a wider set of pegs make a big difference, so I'm not sure whether that would help.
      It's always hard upgrading, especially if you're on something you really like, and you've got it pretty much perfect after a few years. It'll be interesting to see whether an up-spec Tenere 700 appears, or what other upgrades or additions the bike might get a year or two in.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep some of those 250s are actually a bit taller to throw a leg over. There's definitely a compromise - at least for someone at my skill level, which is basic on the dirt/off road - as you do feel that extra weight. It's not quite as easy to throw around as say a WR250R, but there's a 70kg weight difference there, much like with a CRF250L. I don't think the Tenere 700 could replace those machines for everyone, for some people the lighter weight and easier handling (especially if the bike goes down) will be more important than better road performance, but the Tenere is also certainly capable of a heap off-road, while being exceptional on road as well.
