In the few times we have seen this line in the wild they have been shown to prefer volcanic environments which makes sense for their typing and the fact that lava doesn't seem to bother them much. It is likely that Charmeleon also operate in packs much akin to raptors of which they physically resemble. This is to the benefit of their combative nature because there will always be a worthy opponent next to them should they feel the urge to fight. Charmeleon likely also hunt like raptors or wolves would be particularly effective given how hot their flames can get helping to cement the line as an apex predator of their mountainous environment. It took the reintroduction of Tyrantrum to challenge this position.
Starters are always so rare in the wild, and when Charmander appears, it is usually in caves or near mountains. Given that Charmeleon allegedly hunt in mountains, it makes me wonder if this line consists of specialized mountain predators, who use their internal fire to achieve endothermy. Charmander usually being found on their own makes me think that adults raise a Charmander until it can just barely hold its own in the wild, and then kick it out of their territories for dispersal, causing them to either waltz down the mountain or accumulate in particularly ressource-rich cave networks. Alternatively, they might just be born precocial, and flee their parents territory out of fear of aggression or cannibalism or something.
Wait the whole Charizard Ossicone similarity makes sense, since Giraffes were mistaken as the mythological Kirin/Qilin in the past which share traits with dragons.
I believe Charizard are cannibals. They probably often pick fight each other. I would imagine they would eat their defeated opponents. Including Salamence, and even Aggron.
What I find interesting is that there are entries about Charmeleon that describe their tails as not just dexterous, but strong enough to lift multiple grown men. My idea is that this Pokemon is an active hunter that evolved to use it's body for subduing prey, making it much more physically utilitarian than it's other stages. This is especially true when you notice that it's stats take greater advantage of its Physical moves compared to Charizard's more Special capabilities (minus it's X Mega Form).
Honestly from other information I feel like the fire on their states their health as their tail flame state how well they are doing. I don’t think the flame goes out kills them I think they are dying or near death whenever it goes out so your heartbeat statement sounds accurate.
I’d love a Kommo-o line video. I think the dancing/clanging socialization is so interesting, especially for a species that seems to frequent echo-y areas like canyons
Kommo-o is my absolute favorite pseudo-legendary. A video on him would have SO much love put into it. The scale-clanging is definitely a major factor for why I love them, too, along with being fascinating.
The reason why Charmander is shown with a full set of teeth while the others in its line largely have bare mouths may simply be for expressiveness' sake and possibly also animator/artist laziness/simplicity, I'm not sure, lol. But like that scene of Charmander getting scared by a Haunter, I don't think that expression would have the same impact if it simply showed Charmander's fangs and not a full set of teeth.

what if their teeth are retractable.

remember that charmander and the gang are salamanders!
Not necessarily, though their name and likely inspiration do hint at it.
