Just saw there is a missing word on an important note that I left, always try to clear your Ice Lance procs(Fingers of Frost) before going into your Glacial Spike>Flurry>Ice Lance, just to get that extra Ice Lance in, you can also do this for regular Frostbolt>Flurry>Ice Lance, however only if it means that you won't be cancelling Frostbolt casts, such as taking advantage of global cooldowns or movement. Plus Remember to check description, lots of info in there!

What an awesome guide! I played all of Legion except the very last raid at a Cutting Edge Level. This was helpful to refresh my understandings and I especially liked the Weak Auras. I was using "Powered's" that I edited a bit, but I find yours to be very clean and fitting my eye much better this time around. Thanks so much again for the great info/auras!
Whatever makes you feel better man...its not about bragging, but giving feedback about what part of your audience thinks what. People have targeted focus groups they have in mind when designing products/services and want to know what they think, or would find the information useful when designing products/services. I'm letting him know what audience I fit into and what I thought. If, my comment "triggered" you...that's a bit sad...The author can do what he wants with that information. As to myself, I don't really need, or seek any validation of my ego to "brag" as you indicate and, if I did it certainly would be from loved ones and not random people on the internet. When i saw in the opening footage you using flurry on frostbolt with 4 icicles and then glacial spike without flurry i facepalmed a little. Glad you got it right in the rotation part tho :D

Hi Fluffy. If you are a beginner consider a thermal void build. It's much more forgiving than the glacial spike build. Once you learn the nuances of playing a Frost mage and you can then switch to the glacial spike build.
It's because on wow no one shares tips and they get mad when you ask so it's impossible to learn.People don't want you to better your dps since everyone competes for raid spots.
btw in heavy AoE Comet Storm > Freezing Rain. I know it doesn't sound right, but no matter how many times i test it, Comet Storm just comes on top. Haven't really tried Splitting Ice, since for me heavy AoE is much more important than 2 mob cleaves, but i'll give that a try as well.
Hi, I played my frost mage back in Wotlk. Watched your video and it helped me a lot understanding the new mechanics. Great content! Keep going :-) A little side note: The video in the bottom left was a little distracting. I would rather have a static image or something if you want to hide your chat.
I use 2x Packed Ice along with x1 Whiteout and a complete Ice Lance, Frozen Orb, Blizzard, Glacial Build with priority stats: Mastery>Haste>Critical>Versatility and I never have to cost frostbolts unless it's for Single Target dmg, but even then my Ice Lance deals more average damage than Frostbolt even without the FoF proc. It works wonders and I outdps +10 Item Level players in Dungeons. And this without the use of the 2nd Ring that provides strong AoE abilities.

HI, I only ever quested and levelled never got right into the whole things properly but NOW I do want to. I am trying to understand this. I have 120 (max level) no looms and need trinkets. I am wondering how can you keep your Glacial spike from doing around the 45-50k Mark every time you use it??? I have no clue on rotations etc...so I'm going completely off your vid. I can get Glacial spike to hit 50K but after that It drops to 20K can I keep it at 50K every time I use it also I'm not really sure what the ice lance procs are...do you mean the two icons either side of the toon that give you 10K only two times (two shots of ice lance) then back to 5K I have been using Max DPS but I am thinking it can go to the trash its not able to give me that 50K Glacial spike at ANY time so I am thinking its a garbage add on. ??…..PS also what are ALL the mods you are using to know or keep track of your procs?
At 1:26 you cast GS while still have 2 whole IL procs! Is this the right thing? Though you need to get rid of those procs before you go for GS-Flurry-IL
ok on opener for boss i icy veinz, frozen orb and then do ispam frost bolt until icy veinz is up or do i use fingers proc as they are up and mix in frost bolt
I don't get why you are casting frostbolt with 2 procs of fof and orb active. Aren't you potentially losing fof procs granted by frozen orb in this way? Is there something i am missing? (16:05 for example)

@selwen Been playing Frost for a while..I could never figure out this situation. Ebonbolt is on cooldown you are spamming Frostbolt fishing for a Brain Freeze Proc at 5 Icicles. As we know spamming frostbolts you will tend to enter casting another frostbolt as the previous gave the brainfreeze proc. My Question is do we continue casting the frost bolt on the brain freeze proc or immediately cancel and start casting the glacial spike. I always think its a slight DPS gain to cancel casting and go into casting the glacial with the right reflexes tho. I mean there is always the chance u get a follow up Brainfreeze on said frostbolt cast
This also comes up when you just finished your frostbolt to get 5 icicles and immediately go into ebonbolt but you have the brain freeze from the last frostbolt, is it worth to cancel or do you flurry the ebonbolt and glacial spike? Was hoping to get this answer.

I am enjoying it quite a bit yes, I went through my thought process in choosing my main vid, but Im enjoying both Frost and Fire spec, currently Frost more than Fire. The RNG can be a bit annoying but keeps things rather entertaining and unpredictable, plus finding all the spell combos to shatter with glacial spike is pretty fun also. A lot of people might complain that mage isn't as good now, coming from Legion...and yes it is worse but I didn't play it much in Legion besides for guides, so I got not much of a comparison :)
The only questions remains, in mythic+ - what is better Splitting Ice or Comet Storm ? the fights go longer with each trash pack so you can use comet storm with pet and always make crits which is huge. However splitting ice is consistent throughout and each pack without relying on cooldown. And on Single target in a raid do we take comet storm over splitting ice?
Yea like I said single-target Comet Storm > Splitting Ice, no contest. As for dungeons/mythic + like I said also, well it just depends big packs Comet Storm is gonna win, its really good there granted if mobs are close together. On regular packs of just 2 or 3 mobs, Splitting Ice will better since Ice Lances and Glacial Spikes cleave will be quite powerful. Personally, I stand behind Splitting Ice because I like how it feels over Comet Storm, some people might stand behind Comet Storm, especially since its also gonna be great for the bosses. In the end can end up being quite even, I've run with frost mages in dungeons where I had Splitting Ice and the other had Comet Storm and in big packs, he did far more damage than me but in smaller packs I did far more than him, so...depends on what you want to prioritize or prefer.
I’m still new to mages and I decided to role Frost because that’s the highest spell casting class that does the highest amount of damage at the moment in BFA. Do you have any other advice for me? I did used to PVP a lot back in the day. I remember getting the achievement “The Grim Reaper” too in 2009 when I was starting out to get better. I don't know what happened apart from getting a lot of new gear recently. I would have expected the opposite, to be honest, as my ilvl is fine (350) and the stats are finally starting to even out a bit... Must be the rotation. Gotta practice more at the dummies with Glacial Spike :)
I find myself accidentally casting an extra ice lance when I do glacial spike>flurry>lance>OOPS EXTRA WEAK LANCE. Do you have suggestions for preventing that extra lance? The GCD is what is messing me up
Yep, when you cast a frostbolt>ice lance even at 2 procs, you won't overcap because the minute you send it if you proc another, it will just take its spot, same follows for Brain Freezes. But the exceptions are: If you going for a frostbolt>flurry>ice lance and there's an opportunity to dump those ice lance procs(as in between global cooldowns, don't stop your current cast to dump them), you can gain an extra shattered ice lance. This also applies when you do your glacial spike>ice flurry> ice lance combo, just for that extra ice lance if you can. During aoe and Frozen orb is up, sometimes although rarely, you might get a lot of procs so if you playing with Splitting Ice what I usually do is stop with Frostbolts altogether and spam ice lances just to clear those procs a little bit, but this is rare and isn't a huge deal. Happy frosting!
I have a 20 % to crit im spamming flurry right after glacial spike with brain freez proc of course and im getting know were my glacial spikes have less than a 50% crit rate 4 out of 10 will crit I have looked up tons of info and nothing on it im sitting at 87% to crit and 4 out of 10 of my glacial spikes will crit its murder on my dps im 350 and doing 8800 dps cause my crits are shit I don't know what im doing wrong I always hit glacial spike with flurry and its garbage if any one has the answer please help cause im clearly the only one not getting it lol

Is there any icicle count that you should sit on flurry? Say you're >3 icicles, and you proc flurry. Is it worth holding the flurry in anticipation of GS?
The Flurry Azerite trait that can proc After instant casting flurry, is there a way to see it better than keeping an eye on the Buff bar ? Its Hard to time it :/

I talk about that during the stat section, it's called the Shatter cap, at 33.34% Crit Strike, you will always crit on shatters but currently is impossible to get that crit amount and even if you could is never a good idea to just stack one type of stat. So like I said in the vid, be aware that such cap exist but for now, don't bother yourself too much with it.

I have not messed around much with ebonbolt and i don't like the idea of having ebonbolt and glacial spike because they are both huge cast times.....That being said, I set up my clacial spike crits with ice nova cast as soon as GS finishes cast and its nasty burst. I also like having the ice nova to keep trash inside ice storm or frozen orb.
Hi! - Like I said it's your pet freeze ability, it's basically like your Frost Nova root but you can place it anywhere that you want, to get it, go into your spellbook > pet tab and drag Freeze to your main bars, and use it to shatter like I said in the vid. :)

Oh thanks for the reply! :) It is so confusing trying to optimise your char in Wow! You are getting "Int > Crit > Vers > Haste > Mastery" on your frost mage simc as well? I just followed two youtube videos in setting up the simming with Addons: Pawn, Simulationcraft, raidbot, stat weight Score and the website and another video using the desktop program. A bit different result in numbers but it ends the same, "Int > Crit > Vers > Haste > Mastery"!

Been playing lock since MoP and changed to frost mage this xpack, im having a blast with it feels so smooth and those glacial spike crits are awesome.

frozen touch over the ebonbolt gives you such fast glacial spike generation

I had a hard decision with 10 110s to select from as my first 120 push (main). I picked mage (Frost), and I wasn't disappointed.

Yep I cover that later, on the rotation, if you can is best to 'clean' IC procs before going into Glacial Spike/Flurry.

I think I go over that or left a note, if the orb is giving you too many procs, dump them solo, gameplay in the background isn't always perfect :).

The only questions remains, in mythic+ - what is better Splitting Ice or Comet Storm ? the fights go longer with each trash pack so you can use comet storm with pet and always make crits which is huge. However splitting ice is consistent throughout and each pack without relying on cooldown.
And on Single target in a raid do we take comet storm over splitting ice?
Yea like I said single-target Comet Storm > Splitting Ice, no contest.
As for dungeons/mythic + like I said also, well it just depends big packs Comet Storm is gonna win, its really good there granted if mobs are close together. On regular packs of just 2 or 3 mobs, Splitting Ice will better since Ice Lances and Glacial Spikes cleave will be quite powerful.
Personally, I stand behind Splitting Ice because I like how it feels over Comet Storm, some people might stand behind Comet Storm, especially since its also gonna be great for the bosses. In the end can end up being quite even, I've run with frost mages in dungeons where I had Splitting Ice and the other had Comet Storm and in big packs, he did far more damage than me but in smaller packs I did far more than him, so...depends on what you want to prioritize or prefer.
I’m still new to mages and I decided to role Frost because that’s the highest spell casting class that does the highest amount of damage at the moment in BFA. Do you have any other advice for me? I did used to PVP a lot back in the day. I remember getting the achievement “The Grim Reaper” too in 2009 when I was starting out to get better. I’m very rusted because I have returned from not playing for 3 whole expansions I have a-lot to catch up on.

I don't know what happened apart from getting a lot of new gear recently. I would have expected the opposite, to be honest, as my ilvl is fine (350) and the stats are finally starting to even out a bit... Must be the rotation. Gotta practice more at the dummies with Glacial Spike :)
I find myself accidentally casting an extra ice lance when I do glacial spike>flurry>lance>OOPS EXTRA WEAK LANCE. Do you have suggestions for preventing that extra lance? The GCD is what is messing me up
I do this too pretty often, the only thing I can recommend is getting used to just tapping the button once and not spamming it.
I would take my icelance off the one key or put it somewhere where you are less inclined to spam it

You do keep casting Frostbold+Icelance even when you have 2 Procs of Icelance?
Yep, when you cast a frostbolt>ice lance even at 2 procs, you won't overcap because the minute you send it if you proc another, it will just take its spot, same follows for Brain Freezes.
But the exceptions are: If you going for a frostbolt>flurry>ice lance and there's an opportunity to dump those ice lance procs(as in between global cooldowns, don't stop your current cast to dump them), you can gain an extra shattered ice lance.
This also applies when you do your glacial spike>ice flurry> ice lance combo, just for that extra ice lance if you can.
During aoe and Frozen orb is up, sometimes although rarely, you might get a lot of procs so if you playing with Splitting Ice what I usually do is stop with Frostbolts altogether and spam ice lances just to clear those procs a little bit, but this is rare and isn't a huge deal.

I have a 20 % to crit im spamming flurry right after glacial spike with brain freez proc of course and im getting know were my glacial spikes have less than a 50% crit rate 4 out of 10 will crit I have looked up tons of info and nothing on it im sitting at 87% to crit and 4 out of 10 of my glacial spikes will crit its murder on my dps im 350 and doing 8800 dps cause my crits are shit I don't know what im doing wrong I always hit glacial spike with flurry and its garbage if any one has the answer please help cause im clearly the only one not getting it lol

I talk about that during the stat section, it's called the Shatter cap, at 33.34% Crit Strike, you will always crit on shatters but currently is impossible to get that crit amount and even if you could is never a good idea to just stack one type of stat. So like I said in the vid, be aware that such cap exist but for now, don't bother yourself too much with it.

I have not messed around much with ebonbolt and i don't like the idea of having ebonbolt and glacial spike because they are both huge cast times.....That being said, I set up my clacial spike crits with ice nova cast as soon as GS finishes cast and its nasty burst. I also like having the ice nova to keep trash inside ice storm or frozen orb.

It's called Frozen Reach. Increases the damage of your next hard cast flurry by about 100%+ I believe.

Hi! - Like I said it's your pet freeze ability, it's basically like your Frost Nova root but you can place it anywhere that you want, to get it, go into your spellbook > pet tab and drag Freeze to your main bars, and use it to shatter like I said in the vid. :)

LOL! I sued the simc with my frost mage and it said "Crit, Vers and then hast" was the way to go! I am so confused! HELP!!!! copy/past : "Int > Crit > Vers > Haste > Mastery"! Why?!?!
What the sim tells you is always the accurate version, simming same as you right now as well.

I just followed two youtube videos in setting up the simming with Addons: Pawn, Simulationcraft, raidbot, stat weight Score and the website and another video using the desktop program. A bit different result in numbers but it ends the same, "Int > Crit > Vers > Haste > Mastery"!
