So, technically, it was more prevalent than the 50's cherry was, but it still wasn't nearly as popular as these nostalgia-seeking brands make them out to be. And, tbh, they were mostly popular with children of the time not adult fashionistas (which is really telling which demographic these brands are aiming for.)

In my child logic, cops only get involved to protect people from bad guys, and if a cop is telling me I'm in trouble, then I'm the bad guy. So there I am, age 4, sobbing in an airport, under the assumption that I'm going to jail because I'm a bad person. For years, I refused to answer the phone or call people on the phone. Flash forward to middle school. One day, after Apple had ended email based tech support, I had to call because something was wrong with my iPod touch. I argued with my parents to have them do it for me because I was so afraid. I had a lengthy meltdown before picking up the home phone and calling Apple. The second I got to a real person who said "Hi my name is Alex, how can I help you?" I started crying again. I apologized profusely and explained why I was crying, to which Alex said, "well we've been on the phone this long and I haven't yelled at you." This was mind blowing. Not only did Alex from Apple fix my tech problem, he single handedly cured my fear of phones. Other than that, I am also afraid of animatronic dinosaurs. Not real dinosaurs, just the animatronic variety.

If she's the person I think she is, her name is Sylvia and she's very sweet! When people would try to take my pulse from my wrist it would go all erratic. I had to do exposure therapy! Now like 10 years later I still don't like looking at the inside of wrists, but no longer have a real phobia. Some people would go out of their way to SHOW ME THEIR WRISTS when they knew I had a phobia because they thought it was funny that I would look away and sometimes start to freak out if they kept doing it. Not a nice thing.
