You can tell Ray is still hurting even though he and his dad are on better terms now. It doesn’t take away from the loneliness Ray felt. I’m so happy Ray didn’t allow his pain to hold him back from his dreams. Beautiful man and soul❤

Damn this hit home. I deal with the same things as he described. I grew up with my single grandmother due to my grandpa dying of cancer when I was 6. I have contact with my mom but she nevers talks to me or checks up or anything and I never knew my real dad until i was 17. I met him and we hung out for about a month and then he never called or talked to me again.
It is definitely fuel to prove them wrong. And i totally understand what he meant about he just wanted to be a kid sometimes. When you have an overwhelming responsibility, it's not easy.

It's all right. You are loved by your grandmother, for sure--and by God first. Just make certain that you do not follow the lead of your dad. Some boys never become Men. Be the MAN that your dad could not be.

As a child my father used to beat me up and my mom up everyday. The pain I had from my Father fueled my ambition to succeed in life; get my degree, get a job, get married and buy a house.
Unfortunately for many young males, especially African Americans the absence of a Father and lack of male-dominant figure causes insecurities, issues and problems leading to a life of crime. Having a strong male figure can solve many of these problems, as fathers we should love, nurture and provide for our children.

Facts!!! Had the same kind of childhood. Thanks for sharing. For years that kind of childhood haunted me. Pushed me to become successful and not take mess from anyone. What started as anger turned into a mission of service and healing. For myself and others. You are not alone. Proud of you for persevering. You belong here, you were meant to be here. Keep shining!!!

Its simply stunning how much of an important influence our parents are - for better or worse. Here is a grown man who still has to check himself when talking about his dad.

When he said he was waiting on the curb for daddy to show up cause he said he was n never did trust me it's the most loneliest and darkest time in a young boys life promises mean so much to young boys growing up when they need u I can imagine how that made him feel cause so many if my friends went thru the same thing

I understand what he means now I’m 19 and doing better than ever with my mom and siblings I’m the first investor in my family and I won’t stop grinding until I give my mom everything that the coward of my real father couldn’t do. Now all I do is train mma and help my momma out whenever she need it she’s a boss herself with her own barber shop etc. I’m glad I went thru what I went if showed me respect and loyalty.
